La GeForce RTX 2070 offre più potenza rispetto al modello base RTX 2060. Con 8 GB di VRAM GDDR6, la GeForce RTX 2070 è equipaggiata con la stessa quantità di VRAM del modello superiore RTX 2080. Con la MSI RTX 2070 Gaming Z 8G abbiamo l'opportunità di provare un'altra GPU della nuova generazione di Turing di Nvidia. Come con l'Asus ROG RTX Strix 2070 OC, la scheda MSI non si basa sul design del PCB di riferimento di Nvidia, ma ha sviluppato un proprio layout e ha aggiunto il proprio dissipatore per soddisfare le esigenze più elevate. Questo perché l'MSI RTX 2070 Gaming Z 8G ha una classificazione TDP significativamente superiore. Il sistema di raffreddamento Twin-Frozr contiene due ventole assiali e, grazie al suo volume, occupa fino 2,5 slots.

Per la connettività esterna, l'MSI RTX 2070 Gaming Z 8G dispone delle seguenti porte: 3 x Displayport (1.4) 1 x HDMI (2.0b) e 1 x USB Type-C. Internamente, la scheda richiede anche due connettori di alimentazione PCI-E (6 + 8 pin).

Sistema di Test - Basato su Ryzen 7 2700X

Per il nostro sistema di test stiamo utilizzando una piattaforma AMD basata sul Gigabyte X470 Aorus Gaming 7 WiFi. La CPU, una AMD RYZEN 7 2700X, offre buone prestazioni e per il raffreddamento utilizziamo un AIO (Be Quiet Silent Loop 280mm). I 16GB di RAM provengono da G-Skill e sono cronometrati a 3.400 MHz. L'Acer Predator XB321HK significa che possiamo testare anche in territorio UHD. Un grande ringraziamento ad AMD per aver fornito la piattaforma di test.

I Clock Rates dell'MSI RTX 2070 Gaming Z 8G

L'MSI RTX 2070 Gaming Z 8G ha un clock di base di 1.410 MHz ed è quindi allo stesso livello del modello di riferimento Nvidia. Con il suo boost clock, tuttavia, la scheda MSI si allontana dal modello di riferimento in quanto è in grado di raggiungere i 1.830 MHz. Grazie al suo più alto rating TDP, l'MSI RTX 2070 Gaming Z 8G ha semplicemente più spazio per poter ottenere maggiori prestazioni dalla GPU Turing. La VRAM è invariata rispetto al modello di riferimento e quindi l'MSI RTX 2070 Gaming Z 8G ha un clock a 14 Ghz effettivi.

Rispetto al modello di riferimento, l'MSI RTX 2070 Gaming Z 8G ha valori di consumo energetico leggermente peggiori a causa della sua maggiore potenza nominale TDP di 225 watt, ma vale la pena notare che anche la GeForce RTX 2070 Foundation Edition ha valori di consumo energetico leggermente superiori ai valori di riferimento.

Synthetic Benchmarks

I dati di benchmark sintetici della MSI RTX 2070 Gaming Z 8G sono in linea con quelli dell'Asus ROG RTX Strix 2070 OC - entrambe le schede offrono prestazioni quasi identiche. Rispetto alla GeForce RTX 2080, la GeForce RTX 2070 presenta uno svantaggio compreso tra il 20 e il 25%. Rispetto alla GeForce GTX 1080 Ti o all'attuale GPU a 7 nm di AMD, la AMD Radeon VII, il deficit di prestazioni è simile. In una battaglia interna contro la MSI RTX 2060 Gaming Z 6G, la MSI RTX 2070 Gaming Z 8G ottiene un vantaggio fino al 20%.

Nei benchmarks di gioco, l'MSI RTX 2070 Gaming Z 8G fa una buona impressione. Tutti i titoli attuali erano riproducibili a 1080p e 1440p con il massimo dei dettagli. Questo è stato comunque possibile anche con l'MSI RTX 2060 Gaming Z 6G. La differenza rispetto all'RTX 2060 si nota solo a risoluzioni superiori a 1440p. Molti dei giochi testati hanno dato buoni risultati anche sull'MSI RTX 2070 Gaming Z 8G a 2160p, tuttavia in alcuni giochi, soprattutto nelle versioni più recenti, si sono verificate delle cadute di frame che hanno reso impossibile un gameplay piacevole e fluido a causa del fatto che non erano possibili più di 50 FPS.
Rispetto alla nuova AMD Radeon VII, la MSI RTX 2070 Gaming Z 8G è rimasta indietro, a volte in modo significativo. Soprattutto a risoluzioni più elevate (2160p) la scheda AMD è stata in grado di allungare con un vantaggio maggiore. Qui sembra che i 16GB della VRAM HBM2 abbiano pesato, anche se non abbiamo incontrato alcun problema con gli 8GB di VRAM GDDR6 della MSI RTX 2070 Gaming Z 8G durante le prove.

Guardando i grafici del frame rate, abbiamo usato per The Witcher 3 (preset Ultra), era molto chiaro che anche con una lunga sessione di gioco non ci si aspettava alcuna riduzione delle prestazioni. Per la maggior parte del tempo sono stati raggiunti ben oltre i 60 FPS, e i tempi dei frames non mostrano problemi - ci si può aspettare un'esperienza di gioco fluida.

Prestazioni di calcolo

Anche in termini di prestazioni di calcolo, l'MSI RTX 2070 Gaming Z 8G è allo stesso livello dell'Asus ROG RTX Strix 2070 OC, anche se il modello Asus è spesso riuscito a piazzarsi al primo posto. Non c'era alcuna differenza di prestazioni tra le due schede.

Nel Luxmark Test c'è stato un chiaro vantaggio per le GPU Turing rispetto alla generazione Pascal. Anche con la GeForce GTX 1080 Ti, sebbene sia più veloce nei giochi, è arrivata ben al di sotto del nostro modello di prova. Nel Computemark la vecchia gerarchia è stata ristabilita e l'RTX 2070 si è ritrovata ben al di sotto della GTX 1080 Ti. AMD era nel mezzo con la Radeon VII, che in alcuni casi è stata in grado di battere la Nvidia Titan RTX. Le prestazioni della Radeon VII non erano però coerenti, essendo anche battuta occasionalmente dalla MSI RTX 2070 Gaming Z 8G.

L'MSI RTX 2080 Gaming X trio è in grado di raggiungere un vantaggio prestazionale fino al 30% rispetto all'MSI RTX 2070 Gaming Z 8G.

Al minimo, il sistema di prova consumava 72 watt - esattamente come la MSI RTX 2060 Gaming Z 6G. Sotto carico nel nostro stress test il consumo è salito a 343 watt. Se abbiamo aumentato il 'Power Target' al 111%, il consumo energetico è aumentato di conseguenza a 374 watt. Durante il gioco, abbiamo misurato sul nostro sistema di test un consumo energetico di 343 watt - durante questo test, il PT è stato lasciato al 100%.

Osservando la tabella di confronto, è chiaro che l'MSI RTX 2070 Gaming Z 8G funziona in modo molto efficiente. Le temperature dell'MSI RTX 2070 Gaming Z 8G sono leggermente più alte rispetto all'MSI RTX 2060 Gaming Z 6G, ma a 69 °C (156,2 °F) sotto carico, la temperatura target (81 °C/177,8 °F) è ancora lontana. L'aumento del PT al 111% ha portato ad un aumento della temperatura di 2 °C (~3.6 °F), tuttavia, il grande dissipatore non sembrava preoccupato. Overclocking - Più Performance con l'OC Manuale

Anche se l'MSI RTX 2070 Gaming Z 8G possiede già un boost clock più alto, abbiamo cercato di ottenere maggiori prestazioni dalla scheda. Aumentando manualmente il PT al 111%, la scheda è stata in grado di assorbire quasi 250 watt (249,75 watt). Con il nostro modello, siamo stati in grado di ottenere un aumento del clock base di 120 Mhz. Il risultato è stato un boost clock significativamente più alto, più la VRAM sempre overclockata con un aumento di 1.400 Mhz. La MSI RTX 2060 Gaming Z 6G è stata in grado di ottenere risultati altrettanto elevati. Con queste impostazioni, la scheda è risultata stabile e senza problemi, con un aumento fino al 15%, a seconda del gioco.

L'ampio sistema di raffreddamento offre una superficie sufficiente per tenere conto delle maggiori esigenze dovute all'aumento delle prestazioni. Con l'assorbimento massimo di 250 watt TDP non ci sono stati problemi. Se il funzionamento di questo OC per un lungo periodo di tempo è ragionevole o meno lo dovrete decidere voi.

Giudizio Complessivo - Veloce, Silenziosa ed Efficiente

600 Euro (~$674) - questo è il prezzo per chiunque sia interessato ad una MSI RTX 2070 Gaming Z 8G. Per questo, i clienti non ricevono una normale GeForce RTX 2070, ma una scheda che funziona ben al di sopra delle valutazioni del produttore. Per raggiungere questo obiettivo, MSI ha progettato il proprio PCB e ha aggiunto il raffreddatore Twin-Frozr per garantire che le temperature siano tenute sotto controllo. L'RGB è naturalmente un must a questo prezzo, e Mystic-Light di MSI permette una facile integrazione in un sistema MSI esistente.

Con i suoi 8GB di GDDR6 VRAM, l'MSI RTX 2070 Gaming Z 8G è più a prova di futuro rispetto all'MSI RTX 2060 Gaming Z 6G, ma non ha vita facile in un confronto delle prestazioni con i giochi moderni in UHD. Coloro che non sono interessati ad abbassare i dettagli e quindi ricorrere ad una risoluzione più bassa saranno  serviti anche con una MSI RTX 2060 Gaming Z 6G. Naturalmente, l'MSI RTX 2070 Gaming Z 8G offre maggiori prestazioni - le cifre parlano da sole - ma non è in grado di giocare in 4K senza compromessi.

Con un TDP più alto e una spinta significativamente superiore rispetto ai modelli di riferimento, MSI mira a stupire. La qualità costruttiva e le prestazioni sono buone, tuttavia il prezzo potrebbe scioccare.

Come risultato, sarà difficile trovare un mercato target di acquirenti disposti a pagare il sovrapprezzo, dato che i modelli più economici sono disponibili per meno di 500 Euro (~$562). Questi però offrono solo il TDP standard di 175 watt, lo stesso del modello di riferimento di Nvidia. Questo significa che il loro margine di vantaggio in termini di prestazioni rispetto al modello MSI RTX 2060 Gaming Z 6G è notevolmente ridotto.

Il duello diretto tra l'Asus ROG RTX Strix 2070 OC e l'MSI RTX 2070 Gaming Z 8G si è concluso senza un chiaro vincitore. Entrambe le schede sono collo e collo sia nei benchmark sintetici che in-game. Anche in termini di prezzo, le schede sono a breve distanza l'una dall'altra. Questo significa che è davvero una questione personale per quale scheda scegliere. Molto probabilmente, il resto del sistema si adeguerà in un modo o nell'altro - se l'acquirente ha già una scheda madre MSI, è più probabile che si decida per una GPU dello stesso produttore.
