Recensione delle schede Nvidia GeForce MX330 ed MX350: architettura nota - nome nuovo

Nvidia sta ritirando le GeForce MX230 e MX250, sostituendole con modelli leggermente più veloci. Abbiamo dato un'occhiata più da vicino alle due nuove GPU entry-level e in questa recensione scoprirete le loro prestazioni.

Per mostrarvi le prestazioni delle due nuove GPU entry-level, MSI ci ha fornito due portatili: I dispositivi di prova sono entrambi unità MSI Prestige 14; un modello che abbiamo già recensito con una scheda grafica più potente. Per ulteriori informazioni su questo portatile potete di fare riferimento alla precemnte recensione.

Fondamentalmente, entrambi i dispositivi MX300 sono assemblati nello stesso modo. Tuttavia, ci sono differenze con la CPU utilizzata. Con la Nvidia GeForce MX330 leggermente più lenta, viene utilizzato un Intel Core i7-10510U, anche se la Nvidia GeForce MX350 è alimentata insieme ad un Intel Core i7-10710U. Entrambe le GPU sono nuove ma anche vecchie conoscenze nel settore dei laptops. Ad esempio, la Nvidia GeForce MX330 è basata sulla Nvidia GeForce MX250, e la Nvidia GeForce MX350 è basata su una Nvidia GeForce GTX 1050 Mobile. Tuttavia, l'interfaccia di memoria è stata ridotta del 50% con la Nvidia GeForce MX350 - a 64 bit. Al contrario, questo riutilizzo significa anche che la vecchia architettura Pascal con 14 nm è ancora in uso. In termini di prestazioni pure, quindi, non ci si dovrebbe aspettare troppo, anche se la Nvidia GeForce MX330 ha una velocità di clock leggermente superiore a quella della Nvidia GeForce MX250. Con Nvidia GeForce MX350, le prestazioni sono notevolmente inferiori a quelle di Nvidia GeForce GTX 1050 Mobile grazie alla ridotta interfaccia di memoria. Allo stesso tempo, la GeForce MX350 deve anche tirare avanti con 25 watt ed è quindi molto più efficiente dal punto di vista energetico di una GeForce GTX 1050.

Benchmarks sintetici

I benchmark sintetici mostrano chiaramente l'andamento dei nuovi modelli. Entrambi i nuovi modelli sono costantemente superiori ai loro diretti predecessori, cosa che era anche prevedibile. La GeForce MX330 offre ora la potenza di una GeForce MX250, migliorando leggermente le prestazioni sui dispositivi più economici. Tuttavia, la GeForce MX350 offre ora prestazioni leggermente superiori a quelle di una GeForce MX250. Tuttavia, la distanza dalla quasi identica GeForce GTX 1050 (laptop) è molto chiara. Ciò è dovuto all'interfaccia di memoria più piccola e al TPD inferiore.

Abbiamo anche testato le prestazioni delle due GPU con giochi moderni. Non ci si dovrebbe aspettare il massimo delle prestazioni da queste schede grafiche dedicate, dato che si tratta di GPU entry-level, dopotutto, che vengono utilizzate in dispositivi economici o molto compatti con scarso raffreddamento. La GeForce MX330 segue la GeForce MX350 con un margine del 29%. In dettaglio, questo significa che qui si possono usare solo i giochi più vecchi in Full HD. Anche se la GeForce MX350 offre il 29% di prestazioni in più, non molti giochi moderni possono essere visualizzati senza problemi a 1080p anche qui. La GeForce MX350 perde chiaramente se confrontata direttamente con la GeForce GTX 1050 (laptop). Consumo Energetico

Abbiamo controllato il consumo energetico dei due dispositivi di prova quando sono inattivi e sotto carico con uno schermo esterno. Qui è stato considerato solo il portatile, senza altri componenti esterni. Con 8 e 9,5 watt rispettivamente, entrambi i dispositivi sono relativamente efficienti dal punto di vista energetico quando sono inattivi. Tuttavia, sotto carico, non ci sono differenze tra i due modelli GeForce MX300. Entrambi i dispositivi richiedono circa 50 watt sotto carico. Ciononostante, la differenza rispetto alla GeForce GTX 1050 (laptop) è abbastanza chiara. Rispetto direttamente alla GeForce MX230 e alla GeForce MX250, i nostri due dispositivi di prova richiedono un po' più di potenza.

Con la Nvidia GeForce MX330 e la Nvidia GeForce MX350, ora ci sono un po' di prestazioni in più 3D per il segmento entry level. Anche i dispositivi molto compatti traggono vantaggio dalle prestazioni, perché i componenti ad alta efficienza energetica non richiedono complesse strutture di raffreddamento.
Guardando le specifiche, tuttavia, diventa subito chiaro che le presunte nuove GPU non sono una novità assoluta. Entrambi i modelli GeForce sono ancora basati sull'architettura Pascal, che ha già qualche anno di vita.

In sostanza, la Nvidia GeForce MX330 è una Nvidia GeForce MX250. Possiamo confermarlo anche sulla base delle prestazioni. Con la Nvidia GeForce MX350, il produttore ha dovuto prendere una strada leggermente diversa; quindi, l'unico passo rimasto è stato quello di basare la prossima GPU più veloce sulla Nvidia GeForce GTX 1050 (laptop) e di limitarla drasticamente. Sia l'interfaccia di memoria che il consumo massimo di energia sono stati regolati, il che ha un impatto anche sulle prestazioni. Tuttavia, la Nvidia GeForce MX350 è fino al 30% più veloce di una Nvidia GeForce MX330.

I dispositivi compatti beneficiano del miglioramento delle prestazioni dei nuovi modelli GeForce. Purtroppo, però, la più moderna architettura di Turing non viene utilizzata.

Il fatto che i modelli qui testati sono delle vere e proprie GPU entry-level deve essere preso in considerazione quando si decide l'acquisto. Per il gaming puro, entrambe le schede non sono consigliate per i titoli moderni. Piuttosto, entrambe le GPU possono sicuramente convincere nei giochi più vecchi e portare sullo schermo anche frame rate giocabili nella risoluzione di visualizzazione nativa (1080p).
