There is a reason why there are a lot of people trying to get hold of an Ampere graphics card from Nvidia: They’re good. The GeForce RTX 30 series has been consistently attracting praise for performance, and an RTX 3070 mobile chip has shown this once again while being taken for a spin through Geekbench’s OpenCL test in an HP Omen 15-ek1xxx laptop. Two tests have been shared by Tum Apisak, with the RTX 3070 throwing up scores of 101,621 points and 110,839 points. The CPU used in the HP Omen was the Intel Core i7-10870H and there was 16 GB RAM onboard.

When compared with the average scores managed by numerous graphics cards in Geekbench’s OpenCL chart, the Nvidia GeForce RTX 3070 mobile GPU’s results hold up extremely well. For instance, VideoCardz believes this is a Max-Q variant on show due to the recorded maximum frequency of 1.29 GHz. Comparing the Ampere unit with the previous-generation Turing-based RTX 2070 with Max-Q part (74,236 points) reveals improvements from +36.9% to +49.3%, depending on which result you use for comparison. Further specs include a 256-bit memory bus and 5,120 CUDA cores, while TDP for the limited Max-Q variant has been mentioned as 80-90 W. With more and more laptop models leaking online apparently fitted with a GeForce RTX 30 series chip combined with a Ryzen 5000 APU, it seems 2021 is going to be a good year for gamers who like to be in possession of a powerful mobile solution.
