LG has reportedly delayed its first 42-inch OLED panels, extending the wait for smaller OLED TVs. The South Korean company announced that it would manufacture 42-inch OLED panels this year, but this now been delayed until 2022.

In January, LG announced that it would start manufacturing 42-inch OLED panels, presumably for less than the 32-inch one in the UltraFine OLED Pro. Currently, LG Display manufacturers 48-inch, 55-inch, 65-inch, 77-inch, 83-inch and 88-inch OLED panels, for reference.

Unfortunately, production of these 42-inch panels has slipped to 2022. According to Korea Economic Daily, LG will showcase its first 42-inch OLED TVs at CES 2022, scheduled between January 5 and January 8 in Las Vegas. Reputedly, LG will market this new screen size at PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X owners on account of its 4K resolution and 120 Hz refresh rate.

Supposedly, LG planned to launch its 42-inch OLED TVs this autumn, possibly in time for the now-cancelled IFA 2021. The new screen size will be rolled into next year's OLED TV refresh though, likely ranging from the A2 to the flagship Z2 series.

Undoubtedly, LG's 42-inch OLED TVs will be cheaper than its 55-inch, 65-inch or 77-inch alternatives from the same series. However, 42-inch models will offer higher pixel density than their larger 4K counterparts, which could be enticing for gamers. Additionally, HDTVTest expects LG to bring across AMD FreeSync Premium, NVIDIA G-Sync, HDMI 2.1 and HDMI VRR compatibility to its new smallest OLED panel.
