The Huawei P50 Pro delivers a contrasted performance in the audio department. In playback, we’d mainly recommend it for gaming thanks to its good spatial performance, and a suitable tonal balance. Music and movie playback are a little less well endowed due to a lack of clarity and strong bass resonances and distortion. As a recording device, thanks to excellent results in volume, good spatial attributes, and a harmonious frequency response in most use cases, the Huawei P50 Pro runs neck-to-neck with such skilled devices as the Samsung Galaxy S22 Ultra (Exynos), or the Xiaomi 12 Pro. The Huawei P50 Pro is particularly suited for recording in loud environments and makes a fairly good choice for selfie videos and meeting room recordings.

Well, there you have it; a gorgeous smartphone with a beautiful display and a camera setup to rival the best in the business. However, all that will cost you a whopping £1,100. This isn't that unusual for a premium smartphone - but there are other devices available for much less, such as the Google Pixel 6 or the OnePlus 9 Pro, both of which have very similar specs. That being said, the effort Huawei has put into building out its app ecosystem is really paying off. Both the Mate 40 Pro and the P40 Pro were almost wasted on Western Europeans because of the lack of Google services. But Huawei's P50 Pro might have that little bit more to offer.

All in all, the Huawei P50 Pro is a great phone with a lot going for it. The screen is stunning, it’s powerful and it has a good battery life. Not to mention the camera which is the focal point of this handset and manages to produce some really incredible shots. But, and it is a very big but, the Huawei P50 Pro is lacking in some very significant ways which really lets it down and makes it much more difficult to recommend. Pretty much every other recent flagship phone in 2022 has up to date connectivity, so you’re bound to feel hard done by paying such an eye-watering amount of money on a device that doesn’t have 5G support. While that will be off-putting, for the majority of people, it’ll be the lack of Google apps that would stop them splashing out on this. If you tend to to avoid the global tech giant anyway then it won’t be a problem, and well done you, but it’s hard to avoid in Europe. We all use Google in one way or another, whether that’s for email, cloud storage or smart home control.

Huawei phones aren’t a great fit for most people now that they don’t have Google apps. It isn’t just about the apps themselves, but how it limits your access to the wider Android app ecosystem. Trying to fill the gaps through third-party app stores doesn’t work, not when you’re looking at spending this much money. The problem is compounded by the Huawei P50 Pro’s outdated processor and lack of 5G, which add to the sense that you’re not getting a great deal. That said, the Huawei P50 Pro’s camera is a blast to use. The main camera is great, the 3.5x zoom is among the best around. And while there are some minor gripes about colour-tuning at times, these are overshadowed by the good stuff.

We’ve judged the P50 Pro as a 2021 flagship phone despite arriving in early 2022. Even with the leeway offered, its performance and appearance could hardly keep up with its user-friendliness, or value for money. Consumers would likely be less forgiving than we are. To us, the Huawei P50 Pro is promising, but also too little, and too late. Even for an average user who doesn’t care for processors, specs, or network types, you’d expect the flagship phone to simply work– and likely find the opposite to be true. For all its amazing photo and video capturing capabilities, the phone's overall usability leaves much to be desired. If only the Huawei P50 Pro was an imaging add-on device to a regular phone, perhaps it could still redeem itself. For those who would like to check out the phone personally, it’s available via all Huawei authorised stores, major telco partners (M1, Singtel, StarHub), authorised retailers, and Huawei official online storefronts like Lazada and Shopee.

The Huawei P50 Pro doesn't lose points for the same reasons most other phones do: underwhelming cameras, a bad display or poor performance – for the most part, those traits are all excellent here. The struggles it faces are, at this point, well-documented and uniquely Huawei; caused by circumstances beyond the reach of the company's influence but ones that deeply affect products like the P50 Pro. As such, it's these very circumstances – not any form of ineptitude – that really stop the Huawei P50 Pro from being an otherwise obvious recommendation. In 2022, a flagship based on the previous generation's hardware, underpinned by the previous version of Android (with no clear update roadmap), a painfully high price – despite the lack of expected flagship features like 5G – and the ongoing absence of Google integration (that so many users internationally rely upon), all undermine the hard work that Huawei has clearly poured into the P50 Pro, and that's a real shame.

You’d imagine that Huawei’s challenging circumstances were enough to drive itself towards making a better phone that convinces the masses of its mobile superiority and technology. But, the company chose the darker path of riddling its amazing device with ads or recommendations, on top of packing your display so full of downloadables you don’t care for or need. Folks who play with second-rate Android emulators on PC would know how frustrating such an experience is, and it’s not something we’ve expected coming out of Huawei.

So, a lot of words. What conclusion can be drawn from the results of testing the Huawei P50 Pro? Actually, I can repeat what I said at the very beginning — this is a 100% flagship. Gorgeous materials, IP68 protection, perfect build quality, unusual design, amazing screen in all respects (resolution, frequency, no PWM, color reproduction), impressive cameras (very clear photos, even in the dark), clear sound, good performance, beautiful and comfortable EMUI shell. You can, of course, find fault with the processor, which in 2022 is no longer at the cutting edge of technology and likes to heat up, but the phone appeared in Europe with a six-month delay.

Huawei remains an industry leader when it comes to imaging hardware and software, and the P50 Pro leaves little doubt as to that. If you’re exclusively after one of the best camera phones around, the P50 Pro is certainly up there as a contender. Much of the phone’s other hardware is decent too, provided you can overlook the slightly older processor, middling battery life, and lack of 5G networking. Unfortunately, hardware alone does not make for a best-in-class smartphone experience. EMUI 12 has more than its share of flaws. The lack of Google’s ecosystem and an old version of Android will still be an issue for most but the problems have extended to Huawei’s own apps and ecosystem too. As such, it’s a very difficult phone to recommend. Huawei’s smartphone business is clearly in a tough spot, with both software and chipset hardware clearly not where the company or its customers would like it to be. I would be prepared to cut the phone some slack on the 5G downgrade, which you might be able to overlook in exchange for the excellent camera.

So, what’s the bottom line? Is the Huawei P50 Pro worthy? I’d say so, yes, but it all depends. The Huawei P50 Pro has an excellent design, great-sounding speakers, vivid and rich display, and great performance. On top of that, it has a top-of-the-line camera setup, amongst the best in the market. There’s a big caveat here, no Google services. That is a requirement for the vast majority of users, but if you’re not one of them, and can live without Google apps, this phone is a great choice, there’s no doubt about it.

For those of us outside the US, Huawei has maintained its presence in a number of markets in which it has grown its sales over the last decade. Even without access to Google Services or TSMC, the company has been producing hardware and smartphones as it pivots to a new strategy. To lead off in 2022, that strategy starts with the Huawei P50 Pro, the next generation of flagship photography camera. The P series from Huawei has often been the lead device for new cameras and new features to attract creators, and the model we have today is a new twist in the Huawei story: our model comes with a Qualcomm flagship Snapdragon chip inside.

Huawei is yet again in a pretty tough spot, and I’m not sure what the company can really do to overcome the hurdles that it faces in software. This is the first Huawei phone I’ve ever been able to use as an actual daily driver since the sanctions, and while it was doable, it’s not convenient. If you don’t use a lot of Google services or even want to move away from Google then the Huawei P50 Pro might even be a convenient purchase, but otherwise, it’s hard to recommend this device. The Huawei P50 Pro is a fantastic smartphone in its own right, and with Google services, I could only imagine it being one of the top phones of 2022. In its current state though, I’m not really in a position to recommend it to basically anyone. I can’t use it long-term as a daily driver for the reasons that I’ve already stated, and if you’re in any way like me — a western-based user who makes use of a ton of Google apps — then you’re likely going to be in the same boat. Having said all of that, I truly believe that this is the best phone the company has ever released since sanctions were imposed.

Huawei's own ecosystem with watches, laptops, headphones, speakers, TVs and tablets has grown immensely over the last couple of years, and that's its biggest ace when selling smartphones like the P50 Pro. If you own a laptop and/or a tablet, or maybe a wearable and/or a pair of wireless earbuds, there is a good chance you will like how these go with a Huawei smartphone. The integration is nearly Apple-level good, and that's something that sells devices. There are a lot of reasons why not to choose this or any Huawei phone. But there are also quite a few compelling arguments why you should do it - be it for creativity, for a change of scenery, for the great features and outstanding camera experience with unmatched creativity, or because you own another Huawei device. One thing is sure - if you do decide in favor of P50 Pro - you will probably like it as we did, despite its setbacks.

If you’re not big on apps and games, don’t mind being fed sensationalist stories in your newsfeed every now and then, and can handle elements that feel like a work in progress, the Huawei P50 Pro gets a lot very right. It sports one of the most reliable cameras around, delivers the best multi-device collaboration experiences outside Apple’s ecosystem, and it also looks and feels sleek – from screen to design. In regions with no widespread 5G, where Google isn’t as baked into the everyday of everyone, the P50 Pro would be a relatively easy phone to recommend. In the UK, however, in a 5G area, for a working professional relies on Google Docs, Meet and Sheets, despite its highlights, Huawei’s latest phone just probably won’t measure up.

The Huawei P50 Pro highlights what a loss the ongoing US trade ban has caused. Without Google Play Services here many won't get the experience they want due to a lack of certain apps - and Huawei's App Gallery / Petal Search can't solve everything (but, in many instances, can plug most gaps). However, in terms of hardware, the P50 Pro is one of the most advanced flagships on the market - particularly on the camera side, where it's mighty impressive - and that's still the case despite its international launch being delayed a number of months. With the asking price also set above the €1000 mark in Europe, it's also a lot of money to ask for a product that won't do everything a lot of people will want. Or at least, won't do easily. That's going to be a hard pill to swallow, further making it a phone that's hard to recommend for most people.

The burning question remains: can the Huawei P50 Pro manage to stand on its own two feet without having the sort of far-reaching, comprehensive software experience we’ve come to expect from a flagship handset in 2022? To that end, I do think that top-end hardware and componentry (as impressive as it may be) still isn’t quite enough to sell a smartphone, despite what Huawei would want you to believe. In every respect, the P50 Pro is as lavish as a four-figured flagship could possibly be, but yet again the lack of Google services pulls it back from the halls of greatness. It’s a shame, too, since if it wasn’t for this particular shortcoming, there’s no doubt that Huawei would have a proper Galaxy S22 rival on its hands.

Huawei continues to show its prowess with the Huawei P50 Pro, which is a beautiful phone that offers excellent performance and has an impressive main camera. Over the years, Huawei has managed to convince many regional developers to get on board with its Google-services-missing platform, but some of the bigger players are still absent; so if you’re very reliant on Google services then the P50 Pro might not be the phone for you.

There are plenty of competitors to the Huawei P50 Pro in its flagship price range. The phone delivers some of the best main camera shots we've witnessed from a phone, and its zoom shots are right up there with periscope stalwarts like the S21 Ultra or the Pixel 6 Pro. It also has one of the most color-credible displays we've tested and very fast charging abilities with the brick in the box, unlike its direct competitors. Contrary to popular opinion, the U.S. sanctions-induced lack of a next-gen modem or Google services aren't that much of a deal breaker on a daily basis one thinks, but they do alter the value-for-money proposition of the P50 Pro enough to warrant pausing on the buy trigger and wait on a price drop. Unless you really, really want those nice True-Chroma camera shots, that is.

It's no secret that the Achilles' heel of the Huawei P50 Pro, or any recent Huawei phone, is the lack of Google services. Sure, Huawei's AppGallery push means you'd hardly be left without enough options for apps that offer navigation, mobile banking, document editing or games. But still, tech-savvy users may find it hard to commit to an expensive device that lacks Google's software and service suite - especially with the sort of choice that the competition offers at the same price. And we are not even going to touch upon the topic of the missing 5G. What's more important is that the P50 Pro arrives with a considerable delay after its Chinese launch, meaning it arrives at a time when the competition is already getting ready to launch its new family of products with next-gen chipsets. We've just started our review process, but it seems that the Huawei P50 Pro is just like every other P flagship so far - well-executed, with an excellent screen, performance, battery, but most importantly - a multi-camera setup that offers a lot of creative freedom to creators.

We've given the Huawei P50 Pro an 8/10 (Excellent) rating: this would undoubtedly have been higher if Google Mobile Services and 5G were on-board. Although it's a superbly designed flagship-class smartphone with an excellent camera system, many potential buyers won't be able to ignore these two significant drawbacks, considering the four-figure price.

The Huawei P50 Pro represents an unorthodox but highly polished offering with excellent build quality, good performance and long battery life that stands out from the crowd with a fantastic True-Chroma camera array that offers superb camera quality even in dim light conditions and with chart-topping zoom capabilities. This is tempered by the fact that it lacks 5G connectivity and the lack of Google apps though the former isn’t going to be a major factor in Malaysia for the next few years and the latter can be dealt with via their Gspace app. The Huawei P50 Pro is a well built phone with smooth performance and excellent cameras though the lack of 4G and Google mobile services (which can be circumvented somewhat) are points to consider.

So, finally, the price of RM4,199. Do I recommend you to go out right now and buy the Huawei P50 Pro? Not really. You need to know what you’re getting into. By that, I mean the argument of “not having Google Mobile Services” comes back up, alongside all the troubles that come along. Banking apps don’t work, McDonald’s app doesn’t work, Lalamove doesn’t work. Also, this is the only “flagship” smartphone that purposely deleted 5G support for no reason. I mean, we’ve already tested 5G here in Malaysia – it’s ready to be used right now. And hence, the conclusion to this review is simple – the Huawei P50 Pro is actually a decent phone – just crippled by its lack of apps.

We finally reach the point where we give our verdict. If you want a great camera, then yes, the P50 Pro is probably one of the best out there. But at RM4199, with the rather questionable performance of the SD888 4G and lack of 5G when 5G is actually taking off in Malaysia, does make it a rather difficult recommendation to make. We’re currently in the midst of reviewing the HUAWEI P50 Pocket as well. So be sure to stay tuned to Pokde.net and learn of our thoughts on that device too.

The Huawei P50 Pro is a solid smartphone with a phenomenal camera. The Huawei Mobile Services manages to build a foundation on which Huawei can expand its ecosystem, but Google’s absence is still tangible, and makes the smartphone feel more like a shiny new toy than a workhorse.

Our Huawei P50 Pro review for the Philippines clearly tells us that it’s one of the best phones you can buy if you value mobile photography. As of press time, it’s the phone that’s currently sitting at the top of DXoMark’s benchmark list, which says a lot about the phone’s camera prowess. That being said, the P50 Pro still has the same peculiarities as Huawei’s other flagships post US trade ban: it doesn’t have access to GMS, and there’s no 5G on board. The P50 Pro certainly isn’t for everyone, but if you’re the type of person that values the photos you take above everything else, then it might be for you.

The Huawei P50 Pro presents a situation where you can’t have everything. It has a beautiful design, gorgeous display, fantastic speakers, great performance, and amazing cameras. Those features alone make for a very competitive flagship device but the lack of 5G adds another hurdle to an almost perfect device. Just imagine if it had 5G and Google Mobile Services. However, the pros definitely outweigh the cons, if priced correctly and you can see yourself navigating through its imperfections, the Huawei P50 Pro is still an amazing smartphone to have.

This is the status quo of Huawei mobile phones today. In fact, the number of shipments is no longer the most important thing for Huawei. Even if all the inventory is emptied, it may not be able to return to the previous market share, but if it can continue to maintain its voice, it has already won. In the long run, when the industry has entered a mature stage, the disadvantages of the head “players” retiring from the venue will inevitably outweigh the benefits. Regarding whether to start with Huawei P50 Pro, there is no need to force or blame others, just be rational and just follow your own ideas. For sales, the 8GB+256GB Huawei P50 Pro is 6488 yuan, and the 8GB+512GB version is 7488 yuan. Brand-new to the market at the end of July 2021, the Huawei P50 Pro comes with rear and selfie cameras whose image quality placed it at the top of our DXOMARK rankings in both categories. As the headline indicates, it is also the new top performer in our Display protocol tests. Read on for the details. The Huawei P50 Pro is the new number one in our Display protocol ranking, and deservedly so. It is an exceptionally well-balanced device, with its few weak points overwhelmingly mitigated by its strong results in nearly every testing attribute.

As the budget is very high, there may be some user limitations. The Huawei P50 Pro smartphone is not for everyone just because of the price. What is noteworthy is its excellent camera with some state-of-the-art features that make it a unique selling factor. We shouldn’t miss the spectacular display either. With easily visible 1B colors, the P50 Pro stimulates every type of user. Still, you can appreciate it when it comes to the brilliant processor. Although there are two different varieties of chipset and processor are available. As the Huawei P50 Pro smartphone has a completely new HarmonyOS, you may face few issues to adjust, there may be many glitches and limitations. On the other hand, where all the features are worth mentioning, the smaller battery size and 4G bandwidth don’t have the charm of this phone. It is always recommended to double-check the specs whether you like it or not. However, we also have alternatives like the ZTE nubia Red Magic 6R smartphone.

In terms of the front camera, the specifications are very close to the Mate 40 Pro from last year. A 13 MP Sony IMX688 sensor is coupled with a f/2.4-aperture lens with an 18 mm-equivalent focal length. However, the new model adds a phase-detection autofocus (PDAF) system, making it the first Huawei front camera with that technology. Like previous Huawei cameras, the P50 Pro front camera also makes use of artificial intelligence to optimize image quality. On the video side of things, staggered HDR processing improves image quality in especially challenging lighting conditions and the stabilization system benefits from new slightly wider lenses and improved EIS (electronic image stabilization) which help with cropping. Let’s see how the Huawei P50 Pro front camera performs in DXOMARK’s Selfie tests.

The Huawei P50 Pro is the Chinese manufacturer’s latest P-series high-end smartphone. The camera setup combines a large-sensor primary camera with a 13 mm ultra-wide, a 90 mm tele, a monochrome sensor, and a multispectral color temperature sensor for optimizing white balance and color rendering. It also revives the concept of using a monochrome sensor alongside the primary sensor, something last seen in the P20 Pro from 2018. The monochrome sensor improves fine detail rendering and reduces noise, especially in low light. It also helps with depth estimation for the simulated bokeh effect. Let’s see how the camera performed in our DXOMARK Camera tests.

The Huawei P50 is positioned to be a good alternative to the Huawei P50 Pro if budget is a concern. The latter is priced at PHP 45,999 while the former is just PHP 39,999. It has a nice design, a beautiful screen, and powerful cameras and performance. The lack of 5G and Google Mobile Services are the obvious cons, but if you’re okay with 4G LTE, already in the Huawei ecosystem, and in need of a smartphone with one of the best camera systems in the market, the Huawei P50 is still a good phone to have.

Huawei had to do a major balancing act to make sure that both their P series phones had enough teeth to bite into the market. Were they successful? Looking at the specs on paper and experiencing the P50 for a short while makes us think that they did. There’s enough Pro in the base model to go around with the right compromises to make the distinction between the two siblings. Time will tell if we end up going back on our initial thoughts so stay tuned for our full review.

In 2021, Huawei P50 can be said to be a rare small-size straight-screen flagship surrounded by various curved screens. The configuration does not compromise. It depends on the screen-to-body ratio, fast charging speed, performance, and even design. The size of the straight screen flagship is really outstanding. Not to mention the image quality, as a member of the P series, it is unique. If you are a fan of small screens and want to find a “true flagship” for small screens with good imaging capabilities, then the Huawei P50 with accurate positioning and accurate pricing is definitely worth experiencing. Do not forget to follow us on our Facebook group and page to keep you always aware of the latest advances, News, Updates, review, and giveaway on smartphones, tablets, gadgets, and more from the technology world of the future.

Necessity is the final consideration when purchasing a phone. Without a doubt, the Huawei P50 is a beast on a high budget. It comes with a fantastic design, wonderful screen, powerful processor and even its camera is worth mentioning. This model may cause a sensation for a few years. What worries is the battery capacity. As long as you play many hours of games or watch videos, the battery doesn’t last a full day. When it comes to budget, there are plenty of phones below that price that can get attention. Thus, it is easier to choose a specific one that suits your needs. As there are many alternatives, it is recommended to compare this model with others. So our recommendation would be the Vivo X60t Pro Plus smartphone if your budget is high.

Sorgente: Techprincess IT

Serving as Huawei’s first official foldable phone in South Africa, the P50 Pocket is indeed an impressive debut outing, with its eye catching design, solid folding mechanism and overall performance all worthy of being a flagship phone. There still remains some issues though, with the lack of 5G support and slightly older processor compared to what is on the market currently raising some questions. Add to this the divisive HMS and App Gallery experience and the Huawei P50 Pocket looks great, but may not be able to fully deliver the premium foldable experience that consumers are hoping for. It is another example, much like the Mate 40 Pro, of Huawei having to deal with elements that are outside of its control, but ultimately impact the quality of the device that ends up in customer’s hands.

As a foldable phone, the Huawei P50 Pocket can be considered a device that caters to the ladies and the high-end market. In particular, the design is sure to capture the hearts of many in Malaysia. As a flagship phone, it also delivers the performance that a flagship phone should have but bear in mind that you will be using mostly HMS. Of course, you can't quite compare this phone to a regular one. At RM5999, the Huawei P50 Pocket was made for fashionistas and those who want the best-looking smartphones. Its only competitors include the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip3 5G, which is more affordable at RM3999 but isn't as gilded in gold-coloured metal. Well, the choice is yours. So is the Huawei P50 Pocket worth buying? If you have the budget and love its design, go for it! Anyway, do you agree with the points in our review? Let us know in the comments, and stay tuned to TechNave!

The Huawei P50 Pocket is one of the most striking phones I've used, with a phenomenal design, better battery life than the competition, a capable camera system, and excellent ecosystem features for owners of other Huawei devices. Considering the quality of the hardware and the strengths of Huawei's design, the P50 Pocket feels like a more reasonable proposition at its (admittedly high) starting price. But it falls victim to many of the same pitfalls as its flatter cousin, the P50 Pro: It uses a year-old chip without 5G connectivity, and software headaches persist if you use Google services — or indeed any Android apps that rely on Google's Android software layer. The Z Flip 3 remains the 'default' flip phone purchase, but the P50 Pocket is worth a look. It isn't going to replace the Galaxy Z Flip 3 as the "default" purchase in this particular category, particularly considering the price premium you'll pay compared to the Samsung device. But for the right person — someone who cares about design, wants a big display in a small size, and isn't bought into the Google ecosystem...

For a phone that retails at a whopping $2398, you’d be slightly disappointed that the Huawei P50 Pocket does not support 5G connectivity. You’d also have to look past the fact that you’ll have to give up Google Mobile Services. That said, it is undeniable that the phone has a great main display, excellent camera and a very well-executed folding mechanism. Essentially, the P50 Pocket is a great phone but it will most definitely only appeal to a niche segment of the market.

The Huawei P50 Pocket is an excellent smartphone. Granted, it’s quite an expensive one as well, but it’s a great competitor to the Galaxy Z Flip 3. Huawei cannot really do anything to revert the US ban, so Google apps are out of reach, but everything else is fair game. Once you set up this phone app, you’ll really be able to enjoy it. It feels really polished, in both software and hardware portions, and it looks truly great. Gold is really not my color, but I actually like the way this phone looks, that’s for sure. It feels premium, while it has a great display, and an excellent camera setup that is side-by-side with the Huawei P50 Pro in terms of performance. The bottom line is, Huawei did a great job, and if you’re in the market for a clamshell foldable smartphone, and don’t need Google apps, this phone is worth considering.

If you haven’t noticed, foldables are finally happening. The past year has seen Samsung’s dominant Galaxy Fold family challenged by Huawei; Xiaomi; Honor and Oppo. Even Microsoft has recently gained ground with its Surface Duo 2, whose updates have rendered it much more palatable as a dual-screen device. But maybe you noticed the pattern there: all those are full-format book-style foldables. For those who also enjoy the more petite flavor – the clamshell flip phone – well, it’s mostly been The Samsung Show. Motorola has fallen behind since kicking off the category in 2019, and a would-be clamshell competitor from TCL was canceled before reaching production. So: the P50 Pocket was destined to make a splash no matter which manufacturer made it. And as it happens, it hails from a company whose beleaguered business condition has done nothing to blunt its hardware engineering prowess. I’m Michael Fisher and I’ve spent two weeks with the first flip phone from Huawei: the P50 Pocket!

As of now, it just feels like Huawei focused all on the hardware and didn’t take advantage of this form factor from the software side. Remember – these are unrelated to Huawei’s lack of Google Mobile Services too. So, should you go out and buy the Huawei P50 Pocket? Eh, definitely not. At the starting price of RM5,999, I really don’t know why you want to buy this instead of the Galaxy Z Flip3 that costs 1/3 lower than the P50 Pocket, has Google Mobile Services, and comes with a proper set of features to elevate the user experience, and the Z Flip3 is also IPX8-rated.

The Huawei P50 Pocket: a gorgeous clamshell foldable phone with Huawei's camera prowess, promising the perfect combination between form and function. With stunning quality of images and a verstatile camera system, this phone can easily make it into the best camera phones category. Coupled with the eye-catching design and interesting camera bump and cover screen, the phone is instantly recognizable. Unfortunately though, the lack of Google Services might be a deal breaker for some. However, if you think you can manage without Google Maps and YouTube (there are alternatives on the App Gallery) and you want a clamshell foldable with great camera, you will like this phone.

The HUAWEI P50 Pocket is probably one of the most aesthetically pleasing devices I have looked at, with its beautiful 3D crosshatch pattern that helps set it apart from other flagships in the market. The main display is great as well, with a very mild crease. Speaking of which, the hinge seems to only wants to open flat or close shut, with it not exactly wanting to stay open in the popular 90° open angle. For RM5999, the HUAWEI P50 Pocket is well in the “very expensive” category of gadgets, all things considered. For two-thirds of the money, you could get a comparable foldable. While it may not have the gapless hinge design, sweet symmetrical holes on the lid and also the rather impressive camera setup of the HUAWEI P50 Pocket, for that much less money, I think it’s pretty obvious what people will go with… I personally prefer larger foldables like the HUAWEI Mate X series, but hey, if you want something more pocketable than your current smartphone or just something fancier, I guess the HUAWEI P50 Pocket is the device to look at.

Can you live without Google Maps and Netflix on mobile? Pocket doesn't have them. Do you game a lot? A SD888 would always run hot, but it's particularly troubled inside the Pocket. Do foldables make you uneasy because they'll break when you so much as look at them? The lack of an IP rating on the Pocket isn't going to help. You insist on having 5G (for whatever reason)? Not in your Pocket, no. There are plenty of reasons why the Pocket is a bad idea, but there's a Pros list too. Fascinating in principle, foldables can be somewhat utilitarian (like Samsung's) or sexy (like this one). And both current Samsungs seem to compromise this or that so as to fit a budget and not to cannibalize other models in the lineup - Huawei doesn't seem to be overly worried about either with the Pocket. The concessions Samsung had to make for the Flip to happen, we think, are camera and design. Those are precisely the two aspects in which Huawei has made the superior Flip - the Pocket is the better-looking of the two and also the better cameraphone.

The Huawei P50 Pocket is their first mainstream foldable smartphone that melds a luscious 120Hz OLED, solid performance and a good primary camera into a compact form factor that has been lavished with premium build quality and an exceptionally posh looking design. If you can live with the omission of 5G and a few extra hoops to jump through for access to Google, the P50 Pocket is a powerful, compact offering that marks a return to form for Huawei.

All things considered, Huawei’s first clamshell foldable is a tragic story of mixed results. There’s no arguing that the P50 Pocket is a bit of a design statement, with a great screen and a wonderful set of cameras. But, on the flip side, glaring oversights such as the lack of 5G and poor battery efficiency – not to mention the usual software woes – make for an increasingly difficult smartphone to recommend. After all, the Galaxy Z Flip 3 not only costs less, but it performs better, comes with full-fat Android and connects to the 5G network. If you’ve got this much money to spend and you have your heart set on a folding smartphone, Samsung’s foldy flagship is still the one to get.

Without Google Mobile Services or 5G, it’s always going to be difficult to recommend this phone, especially with such a high starting price. That said, the folding format is well-executed here — although a larger outer screen would add plenty of utility — and the screen and camera are very good too.

The P50 Pocket tells a familiar story. Huawei has put together some fantastic hardware here, with a hinge mechanism that’s beyond Samsung’s best efforts, solid battery life, and a powerful camera setup. There are minor niggles – I don’t love the shiny finishes and it’s a shame that Huawei couldn’t match the Z Flip 3’s waterproofing and wireless charging – but ultimately the big problem remains that there’s no 5G connectivity and no support for core Google apps and services. At a cut-throat price it might make sense to sacrifice those, but when the closest competitor is cheaper and more fully-featured, the P50 Pocket is a very hard sell. More than anything else, that’s a shame. Huawei has knocked it out of the park here, and it’s only forces outside the company’s control that hold the P50 Pocket back.

From a design perspective, the P50 Pocket is quite different in approach to what we've seen so far - particularly when compared to Samsung's Z Flip 3. The round screen on the cover, and the textured, patterned finish make it very unique-looking. But what we can't get away from is the price. Where Samsung has been able to bring its flip phone down to a palatable price - no different to most flagship phones - the Huawei P50 Pocket is incredibly expensive still. And for those of us in western markets - the lack of Google Play Services means it may not be all that practical for most people.

Of course, most of what I said in this review will be moot points without two main considerations: the price, and the GMS situation. The reality is, Huawei’s €1,299 ($1,466) pricing, plus not having access to Google Mobile Services really limit the P50 Pocket’s mainstream appeal. It’s worth wondering why Huawei didn’t price this phone lower, especially with the Galaxy Z Flip 3 available right now with 5G connectivity, unrestricted software, and a lower price tag. If I have to take a guess, it’s that Huawei’s consumer group isn’t willing to let go of its premium brand status just because of sanctions that are beyond the group’s control. In mainland China, Malaysia, and parts of Hong Kong, Huawei is seen as a luxury brand whose gadgets are a notch above other Chinese manufacturers. “Huawei is considered the Rolex of mobile phones by Chinese people,” a popular phone importer in Hong Kong told me few months ago, when I expressed surprise that all his China model P50 Pros were sold out on day one. Some people will buy Huawei products even if it’s more expensive, even if it doesn’t have Google.

The Huawei P50 Pocket is the best clamshell foldable phone that money can buy. Considering the specs inside and the experience that you get from this foldable device, justified the price, and many would love to buy. But the OS situation may also be something that you should think about before you spend your money. But if you don’t mind the different software experience, then this is a solid phone indeed. But if the software experience is something that you care about, then you may go for the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 3 or Oppo Find N. So, the end decision is up to you, and your buying decision depends on what you want out of this phone.

The Huawei P50 Pocket is not Huawei’s first folding smartphone, although this is its first foldable smartphone to sport a clamshell design. If you dig this design, then you now have another alternative to the likes of the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip3. It has a beautiful design and good cameras. It has a nice display too, but we’re yet to see how it handles creasing over time. What will probably keep interested buyers from getting this is the lack of 5G and Google apps. The latter concern can be solved with a workaround, but it might be cumbersome to those who just want Google to work right away. As for the price, as of writing, Huawei is yet to release that info, but if they get to aggressively price this against the competition, then we might see that there’s a lot to love about this device.

The addition of a touchable external screen solves the problem of frequently opening the main screen when there are notifications daily. The functions that can be used on the external screen can be used after opening the main screen. It can be said that the external screen is an extension of the main screen. In terms of gaming experience, the 21:9 screen of the Huawei P50 Pocket can be said to have its physical plug-in. The long and narrow screen brings a wider game vision. This advantage can be used in current mainstream games. It can be said to be very liked. If the Huawei Mate X series is more business-oriented, the P50 Pocket is a trendy luxury product Huawei has prepared for young people. Huawei P50 Pocket is the foldable version of the Huawei P50 that was released in December 2021, and the expected price of this foldable phone is around $1,412 (Rs 1,05,499 in India) approx. Although, there aren’t any competitive edge seen in this phone since compare to the Samsung foldable smartphone. But, the foldable 6.9-inches OLED panel provides immersive colors and 120 Hz refresh support, while colors and saturation are pretty decent. The phone also features a side-mounted fingerprint. In terms of the processing powers, the phone relies on the Snapdragon 888 4G chipset. Yes, Huawei P50 Pocket didn’t support the 5G band. Hopefully, the HarmonyOS 2.0 gives a fresh breeze compared to the regular Android OS. As for the camera section, you are getting a triple camera setup including the 40MP primary, 13MP ultrawide, and 32MP secondary camera that can easily provide 4K video recording. At the same time, the 10.7 MP selfie camera also renders decent photos and videos.

So in the conclusion, it will be correct to say that the Huawei P50E smartphone is over-priced as compared to the available specs and features. As this one is a 4G mobile phone, not having a fast refresh rate, strongest battery, or processing power. The only section that receives a thumbs up is the camera. However, while buying a mobile phone, you still need to check your own needs and the differences between the various mobile phones to make the most reasonable choice. So, the users can decide according to their requirements. The handsets will be available for purchase only in China. Thus, if you are not going for Huawei P50E you must check out alternative options such as the Xiaomi Mi 12 Pro which will be more appropriate as per the price and specs.

Commenti
Huawei:
