Although Dell happily sells the Venue 7 (2014) as a voice-enabled tablet, it really seems as though the company has treated calling as an afterthought. There are plenty of other 7-inch devices, such as Asus' FonePad (Review | Photos) and Samsung's Galaxy Tab series which are more suited for voice calling. At his price level even the first-generation Wi-Fi-only iPad mini is an alternative worth considering despite its age.

For $160, the Dell Venue 7 offers solid performance and audio, a bright display and strong battery life, making it an excellent option for those looking for an affordable 7-inch Android tablet. The $150 ASUS MeMO Pad 7 is more powerful and has a slick Zen UI interface, but it doesn't last as long on a charge. You can't go wrong with either 7-inch tablet, but when it comes to endurance, the Venue 7 gets the edge.

I’d suggest the 8-inch version of the Dell Venue over its 7-inch counterpart solely for the bump in the screen resolution and very slight upgrade in the front-facing camera. In either case, both tablets still give you bang for your buck, especially considering the poor performance of other sub-$200 tablets. Dell’s latest tablets are as solid as the low-end Android tablet market allows them to be. If you’re looking into a tablet with a low price tag, you’d be doing yourself a disservice by not looking into Dell’s update Venue lineup.

The Dell Venue 7 and Venue 8 are similar with only minor hardware differences. They run as expected once the Android updates are installed out of the box. Other than the strange display flashing in the Chrome browser, everything works as expected with the Atom processor. There are occasional stutters in performance, but these are not a deal killer. It is reminiscent of Android tablets in the early stages. It feels like Google needs to do some additional work on Android for Intel hardware.

The Venue 7 could have been a fantastic low-cost tablet. It costs just over half of what the similarly sized Google Nexus 7 (2013) does, making it a serious budget alternative. One significant advantage it has over the Nexus is its microSD card slot. It's also small and light enough to toss in a bag just in case it's ever needed. Unfortunately, the awful screen makes it hard for us to imagine ever using this tablet for reading or watching videos, which are two major use cases for smaller tablets. We don't mind the low resolution, but it's the visible grid pattern that really distracts us.

The Dell Venue 7 is an average tablet with an average display and average performance. It's a good buy if all you need is an Android tablet for basic apps, but other options exist. The $129 Nook HD$114.00 at Amazon has a higher-resolution display, though it won't play all the media files the Venue 7 will. The Venue 7 edges out both the HD 7$166.95 at Office Depot and Sero 7$129.00 at Walmart, but barely. If a tablet like the Nexus 7 is out of your price range, the Dell Venue 7 is worth a look.

Dell's Venue 7 is a very affordable Android tablet that does a decent job but just has enough small items that make it just an average tablet. It is nice to see that it has a decent level of quality considering its very low price tag and it is easy to expand storage with the microSD card slot.

The $149 Dell Venue 7 provides a solid Android experience for an aggressive price. The lightweight tablet holds up well for gaming and video streaming, and the included PocketCloud app adds a nice dash of productivity. We also like the soft-touch back. However, this Intel-powered device offers mixed performance, and it doesn't last as long on a charge as top competitors.

Ever since its launch, first in 2012 and followed by an updated version in 2013, the Google Nexus 7 has been the compact tablet to beat. Very few models come close for value; the Nexus 7's combination of a high-resolution 1,920x1,200 screen and a quick processor makes its stock version of Android a pleasure to use. With the launch of the Dell Venue 8 Android (not to be confused with the Windows 8.1 Venue Pro it looks like Google's all-conquering tablet may finally have some competition. This tablet matches the Nexus 7 for screen resolution, with its 1,920x1,200 panel, and has one of Intel's latest "Bay Trail" Atom systems-on-a-chip.

The new Dell Venue 8 delivers a sharper display, improved performance and longer battery life than its predecessor, for just $20 more. The refresh also makes this device the only $200 Android tablet to offer a full HD screen. If you're looking for a more powerful Android slate in this size, we recommend ASUS' MeMO Pad 8, which costs the same as the new Venue 8 and offers speedier performance, more endurance, and better software and apps.

The Dell Venue 8 makes a less compelling argument than its smaller sibling, the Venue 7. At $149, the 7-inch model is a viable choice for an inexpensive tablet, but the case for the $179 8-inch model isn't as clear-cut. Amazon has a line of Kindle Fire tablets at similar prices that run Android apps and offer better performance. Barnes & Noble's Nook HD$114.00 at Amazon has a higher-resolution screen for $20 more. The king of 7-inch tablets, the Nexus 7$168.00 at Amazon, costs only $50 more. With so many other options available, the Venue 8 gets lost in the crowd. You probably won't miss it.

It's great to see a relatively affordable Windows 8 convertible with Intel Core CPUs, full size keyboards and fast SSD drives. The HP Split x2 brings novel and useful designs to a broader range of customers, and they've made a solid product. Obviously, even the $850 4th gen Core i5 model won't compete with high end Ultrabooks that have full HD displays and faster U series CPUs, but those cost $1,000 to $1,300 for Core i5 models.

The Dell Venue 8 is a good-looking tablet which feels very well made, and has the advantage of the full version of Windows 8.1, so you have access to thousands of Windows applications. However, we're not happy with its screen; if you're after a Windows 8.1 tablet, the Lenovo Miix 2 8 tablet has a better panel and is significantly cheaper.

The Dell Venue 8 Pro is certainly a capable tablet and coupled with a stand and keyboard it can be a capable budget laptop as well. It comes with a full version of Windows and the inclusion of Microsoft Office is a good bonus. At AED 1299 in some shops here in the UAE it’s not too far off similarly priced Windows tablets and definitely easier to handle than some.

Overall, we were impressed that a fully working PC can be squeezed into such a light and compact device as the Venue 8 Pro, but we also wonder who the exact target market is for these 8in Windows tablet devices. The form factor makes it too small to be useful for any serious productivity work, while anyone looking for a consumer tablet for web browsing and watching videos is likely to prefer an iPad or Android device. That said, a device such as this could be viewed as a companion to a full size PC or laptop, which the price point of £249 is in keeping with. In this case, the bundled copy of Microsoft Office could prove useful.

Microsoft has finally given manufacturers the green-light to develop sub-10in Windows 8.x tablets. Dell is aiming to capitalise on this by offering the Venue 8 Pro, a device chocked full of business features. Dell proves there is life in 8in Windows 8.x devices. There are advantages to having a small tablet which can support all Windows applications, but the screen and specification could be better.

If you are intent on buying a 8-inch, Windows 8.1 tablet then the Dell Venue Pro 8 is currently the best one out there. It's comfortable to use, has a nice, bright display, the battery life really impresses and general performance is very good. For £250, it represents great value for money as a standalone tablet you are going to use for everyday tasks. We still have our niggling issues most of which are levelled at the operating system more than anything else. Until Microsoft sort out scaling issues for the traditional desktop mode, Microsoft Office is difficult to use without an additional keyboard. That means investing more pushing the price closer to £300 if you go for Dell's official option.

We like both of Dell’s Venue 8 tablets, but they’re entirely different devices, with different hardware and operating systems. They’re likely to appeal to different segments of the market, too. So, while our HotHardware Approved award applies to both tablets, we’re separating our conclusions here.

There aren’t many tablets that offer what the Dell Venue 8 Pro does: It’s an inexpensive device that can run mobile-friendly apps as well as the same apps you might run on your desktop or notebook PC. There’s an option for a pressure-sensitive pen which lets you jot handwritten notes in OneNote, enter text with handwriting recognition, or draw in art and graphics apps. And it’s cheap.

Bottom line here, the Dell Venue 8 Pro appears to be a decent value for the asking price. We do have to admit though, we struggled a bit to find a place where it truly fits in our work flow. Granted, that is just one specific person, so we have to discount that thought a little bit. If you are living in a Windows world, whether it be for work or pleasure, the Venue 8 Pro could be a viable alternative as compared to your basic Android or iOS tablet.

Should you buy the Venue 8 Pro? The answer isn't exactly "yes," and it isn't exactly "no." It's "wait." Wait for Dell to issue some firmware updates to address the aggressive auto-brightness settings and the flaky pen performance. And wait for more of these 8-inch Windows tablets to start shipping.

The Dell Venue Pro 8 will never replace your laptop, but that’s not the point. For $300, you get full Windows in a mini tablet, and despite the low price, it’s not cheaply done. It’s well built, performs well, and will run all day on battery. The only big caveats are the lack of ports and the half-baked active pen.

The Dell Venue 8 Pro is much easier to recommend than older Atom tablets. It can actually perform multimedia tasks in a reasonable amount of time, but still manages to excel at battery life. It fits easily in the hand, and is more portable than the 10-inch tablets we've seen up until now. It's got a much better screen than the muddy one on the 8-inch Acer Iconia W3, so it's easier on the eyes. That said, while recommended for ultramobile users who don't need a lot of local storage, the Dell Venue 8 Pro doesn't quite earn an Editors' Choice for two reasons: The Venue 8 Pro's base model is still a bit short on storage, and we haven't seen enough 8-inch Windows tablet competitors to unequivocally award the Venue 8 Pro an EC.

Microsoft’s Surface Pro 2 looks and feels better than the Venue Pro, but Dell’s tablet supports superb keyboards and a second battery, has great connectivity, and is backed by excellent service and support. There are better value equivalents from other manufacturers, but the Venue Pro reigns in terms of flexibility when it comes to specifications, prices and accessories.

The top of the line Dell Venue 11 Pro (7139) excels as a workhorse Windows 8 slate tablet with its detachable keyboard base. It's got a lot more performance potential than the similarly priced, Atom-equipped Dell Latitude 10 Enhanced Security, our previous high-end champ. Plus, the Venue 11 Pro has a detachable keyboard option, while the Latitude 10 is a simple slate. Therefore, it's no surprise that the Venue 11 Pro (7139) is our new Editors' Choice for high-end business tablets, replacing the Latitude 10.

I really like the Venue 11 Pro as a tablet, and especially as a laptop with the Travel Dock. Out of the 20-plus Windows laptops and hybrids I have tested, the Dell Venue 11 Pro is the best, by far. It’s just the right size as a tablet, and indistinguishable from a “real” laptop with the Travel Dock. Dell has nailed it perfectly.

The $1,080 Dell Venue 11 Pro impresses with its attractive design and sheer versatility, and businesses will appreciate the addition of the fingerprint and Smart Card readers. We also like the vivid, 10.8-inch display. However, this tablet simply doesn't offer the performance we would expect at the price.

The Dell Venue 11 Pro has a nice body with excellent manufacturing, an outstanding screen and long battery life. Unfortunately, all this is countered by an extremely lightweight processor and GPU, giving it performance that falls several notches below Microsoft's Surface Pro 2, a rival that provides a true laptop + tablet experience for the same price.

Dell has put together an outstanding piece of kit here. The recommended UK retail price of £790 (US$1,049.99 in the US) for the i5-powered version, which is more expensive than both the Surface Pro 2 and comparable iPads. If you're looking for a device with which you can breeze through work without compromising on multimedia playback support then this has to be right up there. The prospect of Dell following up the Venue 11 Pro with any significant upgrades is mouthwatering.

The Venue 11 Pro is a good tablet thanks to its screen quality, versatile design and reasonable processor, and its lower prices make it a tempting alternative to the Surface Pro, even though Microsoft’s machine has a faster processor and more stylish design. If you’re willing to drop the specification, the Venue becomes better value.

The Dell only falls down in a couple of areas. Its 2MP front camera is only suitable for Skype calls, and the 8mp rear shooter produces shots that are a little too dark for our liking. And, when it comes to audio, there's little to shout about: the Venue's stereo speakers have good volume but tinny high-hats and a muddy mid-range. The second battery pack available in the Venue's optional keyboard adds welcome longevity, and the Venue 11 Pro still works out at good value when compared to the Surface and its equivalent accessory. It's a versatile tablet that'll be at home in the office, but we'd still consider a similarly-sized Ultrabook if a keyboard was crucial.

There’s no doubt that the Dell is a capable rival for the Surface Pro 2 at the high-end of the Windows 8 tablet market thanks to its sturdy build quality and versatile design, and its Core i5 processor and 1080p screen are easily good enough to get most jobs done – even if they’re bettered by Microsoft’s hardware. If you just need a tablet, there’s no doubt Dell offers better deals: the £699 Core i5 model and £629 Core i3 version both come with 128GB of storage space and are both cheaper than the most affordable Surface Pro 2, which costs £719 but only has a 64GB SSD.

The Venue 11 Pro is a great concept, and we can truly imagine it finding a happy home in many a mobile worker's bag. Its replaceable battery is its ultimate selling point, and it performed very well in all the office tasks we threw at it. But questionable screen quality, odd keyboard dock design and the occasional software glitch tarnishes the experience somewhat and makes us question whether the device has the build quality to survive life in the real world.

The Dell Venue 11 Pro is a little bit tablet and a little bit ultraportable, but it's all business. For $499 you get a tablet with full Windows 8.1 (not the Surface 2's limited Windows RT) and 8 hours of battery life, in an elegant, yet eye-catching frame. We also appreciate the multiple docking options.

By focusing on the business market with the Venue 11 Pro Dell has sensibly avoided any comparisons with Android, iOS and even Windows RT tablets. Instead, the Venue 11 Pro’s main rival is Microsoft’s own Surface Pro 2, although the Surface Pro 2 costs almost twice as much as the Venue 11 Pro. If you fancy the Venue 11 Pro it might be a good idea to invest in the keyboard dock, as the touchscreen simply is best used for typing a quick email and web browsing rather than working on involved MS Office documents. Even so, for sheer flexibility, the Venue 11 Pro provides a good alternative to the Microsoft Surface Pro 2.

The Dell Venue 11 Pro takes the Atom-powered small form factor tablet/hybrid idea and pushes the boundaries toward a more upscale, professional product. The solid construction, high-res display, well-made keyboard, and long battery life all point to a low-power Windows tablet that can do nearly all an ultraportable laptop can.

The screen of the Venue Pro 11 needs to be easier to turn up to proper levels, but the tablet performs well for its price and is an option for business users who want a convertible tablet with Window 8. Convertibile componibile.

In the 8-inch tablet realm, budget and full HD were once mutually exclusive; you'd typically expect to pay up to $400 for that privilege. Spending that much will still get you a great tablet, like the Editors' Choice Samsung Galaxy Tab S 8.4Best Price at Amazon, but it's no longer required. The Dell Venue 8 (2014) comes in under the $200 mark and will serve up all your favorite videos in full HD. It can't match the Tab S on speed or features, but it's a solid value for on-the-go media consumption.

If you want a tablet that will do it all, the Venue 8 isn’t for you. this simply won’t stand up to a Galaxy Tab or Nexus 7 — but it’s not supposed to. Wireless charging and the larger screen are nice, and we really like the solid build quality, here. We saw about two days battery life with moderate use, so dedicated workhorses will probably see a day with this one.

All told, the Venue 8 is a solid device that punches above its weight class given its price, though it won’t redefine the segment. Dell has thrown a few nice extras onto the Venue 8, but at $179, it can occasionally feel a touch under-powered--again though, this is the norm for tablets in this market segment. If you're looking for a tablet with more horsepower, you're going to have to justify the upside cost.

The Dell Venue 8 has all the makings of a superb compact tablet: the Intel hardware racks up impressive benchmark scores and the display gives the Nexus 7's Full HD panel a run for its money. Ultimately, though, the impressive benchmark scores don't tell the whole story – in everyday use, the crashing issues and laggy performance are difficult to forgive. Forthcoming system updates could yet transform the Dell Venue 8's appeal, but, unless gaming performance is an absolute priority, the Nexus 7 is a far better buy right now.

The Dell Venue 8 7000 is an attractive Android tablet with a super slim design, a great screen and offers smooth performance combined with good battery life. However, it's more expensive than closely matched rivals and the RealSense camera technology which is supposedly a selling point isn't worth the time of day.

The Dell Venue 8 is a tablet that I really wanted to like. From the moment I unboxed it, it had a level of craftsmanship that I have seldom seen in other Android tablets. The aluminum casing is rigid and sturdy, which is a breath of fresh air compared to the flex that many plastic tablets exhibit. It's extremely thin, and it manages to be lightweight without going overboard and feeling like an empty demo unit.

Instead of the Dell Venue 8 7000, this should have been called "Dell - the world's thinnest tablet" to tell us more about all of its iPad-beating features. No, it doesn't match Apple's A8 chip with its unconventional use of a smaller Intel processor. That does make it slower than today's best tablets. But it ultimately helps more than it hurts, thanks to its thinner profile. This model is thin and has style, more so than other Android tablet.

Given the choice of buying one of these four tablets discussed in this review, the Dell Venue 8 7000 stands at the top of my list. I can’t claim to have looked at every high-end Android tablet on the market so I cannot claim definitively that this is the best Android tablet, but I am leaning in that direction. Anyone or any company that wants to prove me wrong: I’m open to it.

When it comes to performance, the Dell Venue 8 7000 didn’t let me down, but it did make me question Intel’s placement. On more than one occasion, screens stuttered to do things they shouldn’t, or graphic performance just dips for unknown reasons. A parallax wallpaper, placed by default, doesn't move as smooth as it could. It kind of jumps to position once you've stopped moving the tablet. That's just one example of the processor not reacting as quickly to software as it probably should.

The Dell Venue 8 7000 tablet sells for just $399, which is a fair and comparable price to much of the competition. Many potential buyers will be torn between Dell’s 8.4-inch slab and the 8.9-inch Nexus 9, which goes for the same price with many similar specs and features. With expandable storage, a killer edge-to-edge display, and a really sweet industrial design, you might be getting more bang for your buck with the Venue 8 7000.

Still, it does one of the jobs Dell needs it to: serve as a reminder that this company can make really nice things. Dell can make thin devices, and it can make beautiful devices. But nothing here indicates Dell has figured out the future of tablets, the next thing we’ll all do with these huge screens in our hands.

Dell's latest Android tablet certainly has a lot of things going for it. The Venue 8 7000 features probably one of the best displays when it comes to sharpness and color on the market and it is incredibly thin. It also brings the Intel RealSense camera technology to the mobile world. This premium tablet though is held back by a number of smaller flaws though.

Honestly, the race would feel more even if the Nexus 9 were priced at $300 instead of $400. But with all things equal, the scales tip pretty strongly in the Venue 8's direction for most people -- again, with the main exception being those for whom the guarantee of always having the latest software is a high priority (regardless of the compromises that may require). That factor is understandably important to a lot of us, and it's something you definitely have to take into account.

So far, between the physical design, screen quality, web performance, and battery life, I'm really pleased with the Venue 8 7000. Unlike the Shield Tablet, it doesn't feel like a device that wants to do everything--be a gaming tablet, streaming box, digital notepad, etc. This is a beautiful device for content consumption, and as long as further testing shows that it doesn't noticeably suffer for running x86, it could be the best mobile device Dell has released in a long time.

Overall the slimness of the Dell Venue 7000 is an incremental step forward - but a hugely positive one. Get the price right and there's a lot to like here - if only the unconventional design felt a little more immediate, but perhaps living with such a tablet will make all the difference and it will indeed make, ahem, real sense.

The Venue 11 Pro 7000 won’t win any awards for groundbreaking design. Dell has barely deviated from the format of previous Venue 11 Pro models, save for moving a few ports around the tablet’s edges, and it’s fair to say the look remains more “functional business tool” than “funky Windows hybrid”; between this and the Microsoft Surface Pro 3, there’s no contest in terms of looks.

With a longer-lasting battery (with the keyboard dock) and a better keyboard than the Surface Pro 3, the Venue 11 Pro 7000 is a compelling Windows 8.1 tablet. We also like the accurate digital pen (even though there's nowhere to store it) and versatile desktop dock, which lets you power two displays. We just wish the tablet ran a little cooler on the back.

At the $700 (£437 and AU$800) entry price, the Venue Pro 7000 offers a nice balance of performance and portability in a travel-friendly size. However, unless you find yourself accessing CPU and GPU taxing apps, you might find more value in an Atom-based convertible. Going with Atom will lower your cost and give you better battery life.

Dell's Venue 11 Pro 7000 is a great option for those that would like to have a tablet that offers the same capabilities as a laptop. This is especially true if you consider the various peripherals the company offers for it. It is just too bad they don't come with it. This is going to be a very solid choice for those looking at a compact business class tablet.

Successo.

The Dell Venue 8 Pro 3000 Series is a full-fledged 8-inch Windows tablet for less than $100. Its IPS display offers bold colors and wide viewing angles, and you'll get close to 7 hours of battery life between charges. It won't wow you with speedy performance, and its rear-facing camera could be better, but at this price, these aren't major issues. If you're willing to spend about $300 more, and you want a Windows tablet with excellent digitizer and handwriting-capture skills, check out the Toshiba Encore 2 Write.

Dell has slashed the priced of its latest 8in Windows tablet to £120 as it aims to compete with low-cost Android alternatives. The Venue 8 Pro 3000 is good value. Build quality compares well with similarly-priced Android tablets. If you’re in the market for a low-cost tablet with full Windows compatibility then it's one definitely a contender.

Fossilizzato.

Statistics aside, as a tablet or a small laptop, the Venue 11 Pro is a joy to use. The display is bright and evenly lit, and it couldn’t be any more responsive to touch. Movies look great and it even sounds halfway decent when music emanates from the speakers. The Venue 11 Pro isn’t skinny, and it isn’t cheap, but it can definitely make an argument for being the best small business tablet on the market.

There's no doubting that the Venue 8 7000 is a capable tablet with decent performance and a great looking display. The screen's good for watching TV and movies and the operating system's up-to-date. While the camera's not the highest resolution, for many that could be outweighed by the creative possibilities of the RealSense Snapshot system.

Battery life is very strong though – most consumers will find that the Venue 8 lasts approximately 2 days on a single charge, but excessive use will drain the battery before then. With general usage, a 2 day battery life is definitely achievable. It really is a great tablet overall, with the camera being the only major let-down. However, since tablets are not primarily used for their cameras anyway, it is not the end of the world.

Fancy camera aside, the Venue 8 7840 is an impressive tablet. In our tests, the tablet's screen was capable of displaying 100% of the sRGB colour gamut, and as it's an AMOLED model, blacks are truly black. The operating system feels like it’s just under your finger, and Android's icons and text look sharp, clear and vibrant. The screen isn’t as bright as other AMOLED displays we've seen, such as the Samsung Galaxy Tab S 8.4's, with a maximum brightness figure of 262cd/m2 compared to 297cd/m2 for the Samsung.

The Dell Venue 8 7840 is a really, really nice tablet. It's got a very pretty screen, and the high-quality form factor is frankly gorgeous. There are a few issues with the irritating bezels and camera placement, but aside from that, we can't really find anything to complain about. The internals are all fairly top-notch, and the Intel Atom processor makes them absolutely fly.

Dell takes several risks with its latest tablet, but they don’t always pay off. The slim design grabs headlines but doesn’t make a big difference in real-world use, and the off-centre style helps and hinders in equal measure. The three-camera arrangement is innovative but has limited real-world potential, and it’s undermined by poor camera quality. It’s better in more traditional areas, but its inconsistent design and poor camera mean it won’t be for everyone.

In many ways, the Venue 10 7000 is the tablet that road warriors have been waiting for. It's powerful enough to handle most office-type productivity chores, yet nimble enough to be easily used as an e-book reader or a multimedia consumption device. Yes, the $500 base price point is high, but you get a lot for your money.

By far, the best features of the Venue 10 7000 over its competitors is a better sound system and longer battery life, plus a screen that can project a gorgeous picture with the best of them. That said, this tablet is better left to regular usage – like watching movies and browsing the web – than a demanding daily work load. But wasn't productivity the point?

The Dell Venue 10 7000's lackluster battery life, anemic performance and dim screen make it feel somewhat overpriced (especially when fully equipped), and a disappointing follow-up to the Venue 8 7000. And then there's Android. Google's mobile OS is great for phones and media consumption devices, but when compared with Windows tablets in terms of real productivity and split-screen multitasking, it just doesn't measure up right now.

Starting at $329, the Dell Venue 10 Pro is an affordable tablet for classroom education, featuring 9.5 hours of battery life and a bright screen. Just don't expect it to do a lot of things at the same time, as its performance is pretty weak. That might actually be a selling point, though, for teachers who want to prevent students from getting distracted by off-task apps and games.

As a tablet, the Venue 10 Pro is good, without being astounding. It's a little too heavy and chunky, while the quality of the screen could be better. It's also sufficient for use as a laptop if you purchase the optional keyboard dock. While Dell doesn’t have any UK pricing on their website, the prices of keyboard docks for older Dell tablets indicates that it may be over £150.

For the price you pay for the tablet, the Venue Keyboard and the Active Stylus, the 5055 offers a deal, just one that you'll have to treat with kid gloves. When you take a risk on a low-end device, you sometimes expect to be penalized for it down the road. As long as you make sure to take care when connecting power, and to give a firm hand when docking to the keyboard, the 5055 should be a good solution for your student's needs.

Bottom line, if I was reviewing the Venue 10 7000 strictly for its hardware and design, it would achieve our highest award status. As delivered however it is a flawed product due to the relatively poor battery life, underwhelming SoC performance from the Atom Z3580, and of course the mixed experience of Android as a tablet OS. Still, there's enough good to warrant a recommendation, though I highly recommend a demo first if you aren't sold on the Android tablet experience.

When I reviewed the Venue 8, my main point of comparison was the Google Nexus 9. While the iPad Air and iPad Mini 3 should also be considered, for someone who really wants an Android device the Nexus 9 was the clear alternative. I ultimately concluded that the Nexus 9 was a better device for your money, even if the build quality was not near as good as the Venue 8.

The Dell Venue 10 Pro 5056 is a solid midsized tablet with decent performance and a bright display. You can turn it into a serviceable laptop, which actually balances on your lap, when you combine the slate with its optional keyboard (together, they start at $618.99). Unfortunately, this device's heft and short battery life sour the 2-in-1 notebook experience.

There's still not many reasons why you'd buy a Windows tablet rather than an iPad or Android tablet. They don’t offer the same performance, app range and general touchscreen ease of use. However, with the Venue 10 Pro 5056 Dell has created a surprisingly compelling offering.

The Dell Venue 10 Pro 5056 doesn't really seem like a tablet of 2016. A conservative design, non-aggressive price and entry-level power mean it struggles to ignite much gadgety lust when there are much cheaper hybrids available that include the keyboard.

The Venue 10 Pro 5056 boasts solid performance and battery life, making this a Windows 10 device worth considering for the mobile professional who can’t quite stretch to the Surface Book or Surface Pro 4’s asking price. You’ll need to grab the optional keyboard dock for the full experience, however, while the thick and hefty design means it’s not too comfortable to use as a tablet.

At £366 for the 64GB version with mobile data as tested – you can get the 2GB Wi-Fi only version for £259 – the Venue 8 Pro may seem a little pricey. As a business machine though it looks like an attractive package. It’s solidly constructed, has a good range of practical hardware and software options, and it looks smart in an understated way.

Imagination PowerVR G6430:
Scheda grafica multi core (4 cluster) per processori ARM che supporta OpenGL 4.x and ES 3.0
Intel HD Graphics (Cherry Trail):
