If budget is your primary concern and you just want to get a well-rounded smartphone under Rs 10k, then yes. If not, you can opt for the Redmi Note 9 that is priced at Rs 11,999 and comes with 22.5W fast charging, a 48 MP quad camera setup and all the other features and specs that the Redmi 9 Prime is offering. At Rs 10,499, the Realme Narzo 20 is also a good deal, but its limited 64 GB storage (expandable up to 256 GB) 18W fast charging and lower resolution display are overshadowed by the Redmi Note 9. Again, sprinkling its phones around different price points serves Xiaomi quite well.

The Xiaomi Redmi 9 Prime is the best sub-Rs 10,000 smartphone in the market at present. It has an inspiring design, vivid fullHD resolution screen, capable cameras, a swift performance, and good on-battery time. All these seem to justify the phone’s prime moniker and make it a go-to smartphone in the segment. However, do take note of advertisements in user interface before considering this one.

The smartphone competes directly with the recently launched Realme Narzo 10. While Redmi 9 Prime has a 13MP AI Quad camera, Realme Narzo 10, which too is powered by Mediatek G80 chipset has 48MP quad camera. Xiaomi has priced the base model of Redmi 9 Prime at Rs 9,999. This seems a fair price considering the phone has 4GB RAM and 64GB storage. Features like big display and decent battery life also seem to be working in favour of Redmi 9 Prime.

If you have a budget of Rs 9,999 and are looking for a good phone that will last you, this is one of the obvious choices. However, at Rs 11,999, the competition stiffens and the device becomes a contender and does not stay the go-to. So if you are looking to buy a phone under Rs 10,000, then this is a very good option for you to consider. However, at Rs 11,999, I feel you should first take a look at devices like the Redmi Note 9 and the Realme Narzo 10, before making your decision.

The Redmi 9 Prime gets most of the things right like a great FULL HD+ display, good overall performance, excellent battery life, and there are shortcomings as well, like the sub-par optics, slow charging out-of-the-box. At Rs. 9999, the base variant (4GB+64GB) of the Redmi 9 Prime is a very good deal and is a value for money device. Moving up the ladder (Rs. 11,999), the competition becomes stiff as the 9 Prime competes with the likes of Redmi Note 9, realme Narzo 10, Galaxy M21, etc. That said, in my opinion, if you are looking to purchase a smartphone under Rs. 10,000 now, the Redmi 9 Prime is a great option and you are getting a great deal overall.

The bestselling Redmi Note series no longer starts at below Rs 10,000. But Xiaomi is in no mood to leave that slot empty. Stepping into the shoes of the base Note model is the Redmi 9 Prime. It looks nothing like a Redmi Note. But its performance for its price point is very Note-worthy!

The Redmi 9 Prime at Rs 9,999 is standing tall in its price segment without any major competitions as of now. The primary influencers, if we call so, are display, battery and performance. The camera is a mixed bag, and MIUI, minus the preloaded apps, look smooth and feature-rich.

The base variant of the Redmi 9 Prime with 64GB RAM is easily recommendable. But if you are to buy the 128GB version at INR11,999, we would instead advise you to go for the Redmi Note 9 which boasts of better cameras, fast charging, and slightly better chipset.

The Redmi 9 Prime was brought to the market to serve the Rs. 10,000 price point since the Redmi Note 9 (Review) series can no longer serve that purpose. The full-HD+ display and the big 5,020mAh battery do work in Xiaomi's favour, giving this phone an edge over the competition under Rs. 10,000. If you are on a strict budget then you can consider the base variant of the Redmi 9 Prime. However, the higher variant Prime does not offer the same kind of value. The Rs. 11,999 pricing puts it up against the base variant of the Redmi Note 9 which is better equipped, making this variant hard to recommend.

The interface feels very similar to what I've used on other Xiaomi smartphones, and if you are upgrading from one you shouldn't have any issues getting used to this. I will reserve my comments on the cameras and the performance of the Helio G80 till I put the Redmi 9 Prime through our benchmarks and in-depth testing. Stay tuned to Gadgets 360 for the full review of the Redmi 9 Prime.

The Redmi 9 Prime packs an impressive 5,020 mAh battery with fast charging, a crisp 6.53-inch Full HD+ display, and a design that’s water-resistant (P2i nano-coating) all for the price of Rs 9,999 (4 GB + 64 GB). In addition to that, the phone also offers a MediaTek Helio G80 octa-core CPU, and quad cameras with wide-angle and macro mode.
