The Poco X5 Pro is a fantastic mid-range smartphone, offering an excellent gaming experience at its price point along with a smooth and vibrant display. Surprisingly, its main camera performs well even in low-light conditions, which is uncommon for Poco devices in the past. The ultrawide camera provides satisfactory results, and the battery life is dependable, with fast charging support. One notable concern is the software. It boots on Android 12, which is unacceptable in 2023. This raises questions about its future-proofing, although it has already received the Android 13 upgrade.

The Poco X5 Pro gets a lot of things right. It has a great multimedia experience thanks to its large and dynamic display, loudspeakers and powerful chipset. It is also performance-centric and can handle any day-to-day tasks and heavy gaming with ease. I'm even a fan of its design, although it may not be for everyone. However, it also has quite a few downsides. Its camera performance, while being decent, is not better than some other smartphones in the market. The OS is also a disappointment and Poco should really try to ship its smartphones with the latest Android versions, especially in the above Rs. 20000 price range. To answer the question of whether the Poco X5 Pro has upgraded the device enough to live up to the standard set by its predecessor, I sadly have to say no.

So wrapping it all up, I must say the POCO X5 Pro is a very good midrange phone. This is especially true in 2023 because there aren’t as many value-for-money midrange devices these days compared to what we used to get not too long ago. Yes, the X5 Pro isn’t perfect by any means either, and I really wish POCO would come up with some original designs instead of resorting to simple re-brandings. But if you’re looking to buy a well-rounded midrange phone in Nepal for some 40,000 right now, this looks like a good value; especially compared to the Redmi Note 12 Pro.

If you compare other devices in the same price range, the POCO X5 Pro has a market advantage thanks to the value it delivers. But it doesn't have anything drastically better than its predecessor. Of course, this doesn't mean the phone isn't good. After all, we are happy with the stylish design, reduced bloatware, battery performance, heat dissipation, useful MIUI 14 features and photo quality (except for the macro mode). Xiaomi did well balancing the POCO X5 Pro as a mid-range device but with flagship performance. In fact, we think this may be the year mid-range phones are getting to that level. So, we might as well settle for these options, as flagship devices are getting more expensive. For comparison, we think the Samsung Galaxy A34 5G (read our review here) is a good challenger to the POCO X5 Pro.

The display is one of the key highlights of the phone. The older 6nm-based Snapdragon 778G SoC also offers stable performance and 4K video recordings. Even with a 5000mAh battery unit, the phone is on the lighter side. Poco X5 Pro also offers a reliable battery life and the camera is good enough for beginner-stage content creation and reasonably good photos. If you are looking for a phone that will offer a smooth display, modest camera output, dependable performance and lasting battery life, under Rs 25,000, this smartphone can be a good option.

The Xiaomi Poco X5 Pro is a pretty great combination of a powerful chipset, 5G connectivity, impressive display quality, long-lasting battery life, appealing gaming experience, and so on. Like most of the Poco phones, the X5 Pro is also a powerhouse that will render an exceptional gaming experience. Not to forget, the company does invest a bit in the camera end so you are getting decent photos and videos. Overall, the Poco X5 Pro is the best option if you are looking for an affordable smartphone for gaming. This device will fulfill those criteria in a hassle-free manner. But if you are alternative options, the best option would be the Realme 10 Pro. But if you prefer stock android UI or sleek custom features, you can check out the Motorola Moto G82 to meet your needs.

Poco’s X5 Pro is a solid mid-range Android smartphone. It matches the performance of other devices at this price, and outperforms them in areas like display and charging. While Poco’s camera lacks detail, its shots are brighter than those from most other affordable Android phones. To be honest, the biggest letdown for most people will likely be the MIUI software. If you’re looking for reliable performance around the £350 mark, then the Poco X5 Pro is an excellent choice. However, for me, it comes down to software. I’d pick the Nothing Phone 1 over the X5 Pro solely for its skin of Android. Is that a little harsh? Maybe. But the way you interact with your phone 24/7 is a pretty vital factor. At the end of the day, you’re unlikely to be disappointed with the Poco X5 Pro as a mid-range smartphone. It’s ramped up from last year, and holds its own during everyday use and more challenging tasks.

The Poco X5 Pro 5G is another well-balanced mid-range effort from the Xiaomi sub-brand, with an excellent AMOLED display, a tidy design, and reassuringly steady performance. It doesn’t provide quite the same sense of outstanding value as last year’s Poco X4 Pro, however. While it costs a fair chunk of extra money, this proves to be a relatively minor upgrade, with a similar display and the same camera system as before. The uptick in performance is welcome, but not outstanding within the class, nor even within the wider Xiaomi stable. The sub-£400 category has gotten incredibly competitive in the past 12 months, and the Poco X5 Pro 5G is another strong contender – if not quite the leading candidate that its predecessor was at the start of 2022.

So wrapping it all up, I must say the POCO X5 Pro is a very good midrange phone. This is especially true in 2023 because there aren’t as many value-for-money midrange devices these days compared to what we used to get not too long ago. Even Xiaomi’s own Redmi Note series which is all about “aggressive pricing” failed to deliver on that front this year because if you don’t consider the bank discounts and all, the new Redmi Note 12 lineup isn’t the usual bargain that we expected. Yes, the X5 Pro isn’t perfect by any means either, and I really wish POCO would come up with some original designs instead of resorting to simple re-brandings. But if you’re looking to buy a well-rounded midrange phone for some 22-23,000 Indian rupees right now, this looks like a good value; especially compared to the Redmi Note 12 Pro. Gamers, on the other hand, will have better luck with the Redmi K50i or the POCO F4. They bring a more powerful processor alongside an equally competent cooling system. The Poco X5 Pro gets most of the important things right for a 2023 mid-range smartphone. From the AMOLED display to the reliable Snapdragon 778G processor and a decent camera setup. Yes, the brand has skimped a little on design, but this does not detract the value the smartphone offers for the price.

The POCO X5 Pro sounds like a solid upgrade over the X4 Pro and is definitely a great phone. It brings improvements in almost every department. It offers a great display experience and solid performance for your everyday use. The main camera is a huge upgrade with a 108MP lens. Full-day battery life paired with 67W fast charging is more than enough for a casual user. It’s also sleek and lighter than last year. While the upgrades are really nice to see, all of it comes at a bigger price tag than last year. It’s no longer a budget option and has moved over to the mid-range segment. However, there are some letdowns like a poor macro lens, bloatware in the UI and the fact that it still runs on Android 12.

Priced at Rs 24,999 for 8GB+256GB (review unit), the smartphone delivers a good all-round experience with performance and battery life to match. The lightweight design, stereo speakers and out of the box MIUI 14 are the added bonus. In terms of camera, it lacks OIS which is offered by the recently launched Redmi Note 12 Pro 5G in the same price range. If the lack of Android 13 operating system and OIS in camera doesn't bother you, the POCO X5 Pro 5G is the phone to consider in the midrange 5G smartphone segment.

Every so often you'll encounter a phone that with a random specification or feature that doesn't seem to fit with the rest of the package. That's not the case here; it's a very balanced device. The POCO X5 Pro is a phone device with modern software that's fully customizable. Moreover, it features enough memory, storage, and overall performance to keep me happy for another generation. There is a lot on offer in the POCO X5 Pro and I'm more than happy to recommend it. It's a worthy upgrade over its predecessor to be sure. The main problem this handset faces is that this price range begets a lot of stiff competition. But that aside, if you're on the fence about the Poco X5 Pro, count me in as someone who suggests you grab it.

The Poco X5 Pro is priced at Rs 22,999 in India. This seems to be a solid 5G phone, purely because of the specifications that the brand is able to offer at a very affordable price and its rivals are offering those at a much higher price in the Rs 30,000 segment. However, do keep in mind that the camera performance is not the best in the segment. General performance and battery optimization are its strongest suits. Stereo speakers, IP53 rating, and headphone jack are all just added bonus that people get with the Poco X5 Pro. The boxy design might be an issue for those who will switch from a phone that has curved sides. All-in-all, this Poco phone is worth your money if you don’t have any issues with some of the annoying features of MIUI.

Poco X5 Pro is a capable device no doubt, with excellent performance and a camera to back it up. But there’s a problem, and that’s the price. At Rs 24,999 (for the 8GB RAM variant), it can’t compete against the Redmi Note 12 Pro+ or Pro, which is just more premium and seems like a better option to consider– though the latter two are more expensive. But again with bank discounts, one can always bring the price down further for Redmi Note 12 Pro series and the Poco as well. The question is then whether you should go with Poco or Redmi, if you are getting hefty discounts. I would say the Redmi Note 12 Pro series has an edge here. But if you’re a Poco fan and were waiting to upgrade from the X3 or say an M series device, then sure you can go ahead and pick this.

We are glad that the Poco X series is back on track after the major downgrade the Poco X4 Pro was last year. The new Poco X5 Pro 5G improves almost everything - design, screen, performance, camera, battery life. There were a few things that bothered us, though none of them is really a deal-breaker, at least for us. First, the microSD slot has been retired, though the base model now has doubled storage capacity at 128GB. Then there is the gone FM radio. Finally, MIUI 14 on top of Android 12 looks just like MIUI 13 and none of the new obvious features are here. Maybe the under-the-hood optimizations did make it, maybe not. But it seems once again most of the new MIUI goodies are reserved for the Chinese MIUI ROM. The Poco X5 Pro 5G is a properly good sequel with minor shortcomings and that's why it gets our recommendation. It's one of the best phones in its price bracket and its specs sheet and the consistently good real-life performance will easily sway most of the potential buyers.

The Poco X5 Pro 5G offers a great multimedia experience, solid performance, and good battery life. The design is subjective and if you ask me, I'm not a big fan of the way it looks. However, the lightweight and slim design might attract many buyers. The primary rear camera and the front camera do a good job but the other two have some room for improvement. What I did not like is not having Android 13 out of the box, which is a big disappointment. The saving grace is that the software has less bloatware and is feature-rich. All in all, if you want a phone that offers good performance and is a decent overall package, the Poco X5 Pro 5G can certainly be considered. In fact, I would also recommend this over the Realme 10 Pro+ 5G which did not offer a very good software experience, despite it being on Android 13. There is also the X5 Pro 5G's cousin, the Redmi Note 12 Pro (First Impressions), which offers a similar software experience and features but with OIS for the main camera.

It doesn’t just run well, either. The POCO X5 Pro is a handsome looker that boasts better design than some of the flagship models out there, and impresses with its decent camera capabilities, especially for its price. While its starting price of S$429 for 6GB of RAM and 128GB of memory is slightly higher than the average budget smartphone, it holds its own pretty well, and comes in as one of the best budget picks on the market.

The POCO X5 Pro has a striking new design combined with reliable hardware that's great for gaming, a large battery that easily lasts over a day, and a good 120Hz AMOLED screen. While it runs MIUI 14, it is still on Android 12, and will not get the Android 13 update anytime soon. The 108MP camera at the back isn't as good as other phones that have the same sensor, but at least this time, there's 4K video. The phone is a decent recommendation in spite of the outdated software as it has a good overall value; at the end of the day, that is the X5 Pro's biggest differentiator.

The POCO X5 Pro 5G is a mobile gamer’s dream. It performs incredibly well with smooth gameplay and minimal heat at Very High game settings with relative ease courtesy of the Snapdragon 778G 5G processor. The Poco X5 Pro’s design is pleasant, I like the bright yellow color, and the specification is decent, but it is essentially the same as a phone released in early 2022 — and that’s not great at all. It’s also barely any different from the Redmi Note 11 Pro and the Xiaomi 12 Lite, two other year-old phones. It makes me question the value, and that’s a concern on a cheap phone. Are there any reasons to buy it? You get plenty of life out of the large battery, the screen has a 120Hz refresh rate, and the camera is decent for a phone at this level. However, the software is cluttered, and only the main camera is worth your time. The Poco X4 Pro certainly deserved a new processor, but to make that the only major change in its replacement, and therefore the main reason to consider buying it, means the X5 Pro is a disappointment. It’s a shame because it’s actually quite a good phone, but it’s unfortunate Poco didn’t push the X5 Pro’s specifications just a little further to make it a true successor to the X4 Pro, and worthy of a 2023 upgrade particularly because of the substantial price hike. Rather than getting a strong recommendation from us, it’s worth waiting to see what the competition brings out over the next months before deciding to buy. Perhaps one will have something special that makes it the one to buy over this rather lazy rehash of a 2022 phone.

On the surface, there isn’t much that makes the Poco X5 Pro a worthy upgrade to the X4 Pro, but the extra power inside actually goes a long way to improve the user experience. Specifically, the X5 Pro is a better budget-gaming phone, and the whole UI runs smoothly too. The phone’s also thinner and lighter than its predecessor, and it brings back its great battery life and fast charging – all good stuff. Less good is the fact there haven’t been any meaningful updates to the camera beyond the addition of 4K video recording this time around. The screen doesn’t get as bright as the X4 Pro’s either, and the weird-feeling plastic back won’t be for everyone. Caveats aside, though, we enjoyed reviewing the Poco X5 Pro 5G. It’s one of those budget phones that doesn’t leave you feeling like you’re compromising on too many things, so if you can find it at the right price, we can certainly recommend you pick one up.

With any phone looking to squeeze as much as possible in, while keeping costs down for the buyer, there are always compromises to be made. Whether that's in design and build - like the X5 Pro - or in other areas. The trick is getting all the important things right so that you feel as though you're using a phone that performs really well day-to-day. That's exactly what Poco has managed to do with the X5 Pro. By skimping a little on design and build, it's managed to make a phone that - in many ways - acts like a more expensive device. It's got a big, vibrant screen with fast refresh rates, it's a smooth performer, has fast charging and at least one decent camera. Some data hangups and the lower-quality ultrawide and macro cameras do tarnish the experience a little, but when you're not spending buckets, those elements are almost a given. With a slightly more refined, durable design and more stripped-down software, it could be a stunning device. The end feeling though is one we've often felt with Poco: you do get a lot of phone for your money, and sometimes the ambition of packing in lots to a cheaper phone means a few quirks in other places. If you're happy with those, you'll love this phone.

Those looking for a super-value smartphone would be correct to look to Xiaomi’s Poco range and the X5 Pro is another good example. Not much has changed since the X4 Pro but that means there are lots of things to like here including a large 120Hz AMOLED display, speedy 67W charging and a solid 108Mp main camera. Upgrades include a new Snapdragon 778G chipset and a better 16Mp selfie camera, along with a more svelte design. It’s still plasticky though and in the west, MIUI still lags behind rivals for cleanliness and usability. If you can look past those things, then the X5 Pro has a lot to offer for not much money but it’s a shame that Xiaomi is only offering the more expensive 8/256GB model in the UK, stopping the phone from being a real steal. For £30 more, I’d rather take the Pixel 6a with its assurances, despite some technically lower specs.

Unboxing the Poco X5 Pro 5G, with a hands-on review of the camera, gaming performance, battery life and MiUI 14 experience. The Poco X5 Pro 5G is one of the first budget smartphones to launch in 2023 but is it one of the best, and how does it compare vs the X4 Pro? So yeah, most of the phone specs are identical to the previous gen. The Poco X5 Pro serves up the same 108MP Samsung HM2 camera as before, with respectable performance as long as things don't get too dark. Battery size remains 5000mAh with 67W fast charging support. And the AMOLED display is yet another stunner, with 120Hz refresh. However, the Poco X5 Pro 5G does boost the performance vs the X4 Pro, offering a Snapdragon 778G chipset - same as the Nothing Phone. Gamers will enjoy a smooth, fluid experience on Genshin Impact, PubG and other big Android titles, complete with a dedicated gaming mode. This upgrade also means the Poco X5 Pro can shoot 4K video with the main camera, unlike the previous generation smartphone. So is this one of the best budget-friendly mid-range phones of 2023? We don't have a UK price at the time I shot this video, but I'll update once the release date etc is known!

Qualcomm Adreno 642L:
