My name is Z5. Sony Xperia Z5. The new top model from the Xperia series is the official Bond smartphone and is supposed to have the best smartphone camera in the world. Our review will check whether owners of the predecessor should upgrade as well and if there are once again temperature issues.
Sony Xperia X vs Sony Xperia Z5
Sorgente: Phone Arena Inglese EN→IT Archive.org version
Available for order at $549.99, the Xperia X is a smartphone that doesn't disappoint, but feels a bit too expensive for what it offers. And thanks to its seniority, the Xperia Z5 is dangerously close in terms of pricing—nowadays you can score one for as little as $600. Taking these prices in mind, we're unable to recommend the Xperia X over the Z5. We like the way it feels in our hand better, sure, and its display is truly summer-proof, but in terms of camera and game performance, it's just not quite up there. The Z5 also comes with a great perk: water protection. A saving grace is the X's better battery life, but we didn't find that to be large enough of a lead to warrant a reconsideration on our part.

The Xperia Z5 is the latest addition to Sony’s range of smartphones to be available from Vodafone. This particular model has dimensions of 146 x 72 x 7.3mm (H x W x D) and weighs in at 154g. Having recently divested itself of some of its product line up, Sony can now put more effort into offerings such as its Smartphone catalogue.

Sony Xperia Z5 Review Part 1: The Camera
Sorgente: Slashgear Inglese EN→IT Archive.org version
It's important to remember that our evaluation and criticisms of the Xperia Z5 are in relation to one of the better smartphone cameras presently available and one rated very similarly to the Z5, that of the Galaxy S6. While there are instances where the Z5 doesn't hold up as well (and where it performs noticeably better), that's not to say the quality is bad -- if you have a more mid-tier smartphone or one where the camera wasn't given much consideration, you'll likely find the Xperia Z5's camera to be a superior option.

It’s good to see Sony finally upping its game and lavishing some upgrades worthy of the name on its flagship phone. With an impressive new camera module, a fingerprint reader and refined design, it’s a highly competent handset that, for fans of Sony phones, raises the bar significantly over the Xperia Z3 and Z3+.

While large sized smartphones are gaining immense popularity among users, I on the other hand prefer smaller sized phones. Sony is the only company that makes flagship smartphones in small sizes. I like it so much that I bought one. Both the Z5 and the Z5 Compact are great phones and fun. The only feature that didn’t live up to my expectations is the camera.

This year Sony has released the Xperia Z5, which brings a collection of updated hardware to the company’s flagship Android device. While technically a successor to the limited-release Xperia Z4, Sony is positioning the Xperia Z5 as a worthy upgrade over the year-old Xperia Z3, or the Xperia Z1 from 2013 for those on two-year release cycles.

We are not saying that the Sony Xperia Z5 is a bad phone, far from it. But in a market where competition is experimenting with different designs, bringing significant upgrades over previous generation flagships, the Xperia Z5 does fall short but demands the same kind of premium. Go for this phone only if you are sold on Sony’s brand image. For everyone else, there are lot of compelling options in the market.

Sony hasn't been particularly ambitious in mobile lately, that's not a secret. And with the Xperia Z5, the company is showing us this isn't changing anytime soon. The Z5 gives off the impression that it's been built to merely keep Sony in line with the times, in case it eventually decides to invest itself more significantly in smartphones. Until that day comes, though, Sony's flagship will remain outplayed by most of its rivals.

Although the design is very similar to what has gone before, the way the phone feels and works has been improved in every iteration, so they are doing enough to make it worthwhile to upgrade. If you own a Z3, you may not notice a huge leap here but anything before that and it is definitely worth the upgrade. The same is true of the Compact and it is a big jump from the Z1 Compact, but not so much over the Z3 Compact.

In all of the areas where Sony has a long and storied history of producing products, the Xperia Z5 is able to show its strengths. The camera has a fair claim to being one of the finest mobile lenses on the market today, and there's already a rumor that Samsung wants it for the next Galaxy.

The Sony Xperia Z5 Dual would have made a great flagship a year ago, but with the competition being fiercer than ever, it simply feels dated. Even if you go purely by specifications, the phone is underwhelming compared to others in its price range and even lower. Plus, the overall experience doesn't really bring anything new to the table and we still have to live with the shortcomings of previous Xperia flagships. What we need from Sony is something fresh; something to get excited about again. Until that happens, it's back to the drawing board.

Because of the bugs and battery life, it’s hard to fall in love with the Z5 the same way we did with last year’s Z3. Perhaps when they’re ironed out, we’ll find a phone that has the goods to really take on the competition, but until then, it feels a little rushed. Sony has told GadgetGuy that what we experienced with the problems in the phone may be attributed to pre-production issues, so we’ll revisit this review when a fixed version returns to our desk (there are quite a few phones for us to get through at the moment, however, so we’re reviewing what we have).

iPhone 6s vs. Galaxy S6 vs. Xperia Z5
Sorgente: GSM Arena Inglese EN→IT Archive.org version
Each phone managed to draw blood relatively early on, but the final score can't simply be based on which phone took home the most victories. Price is an important consideration as well, on that front the Samsung Galaxy S6 seems to be leading, even if you have big storage requirements and go for the 128GB model. For that price you get the best screen, software focused on multitasking and security and a camera that works great in the dark.

For all the posturing of the Sony Xperia Z5, there is something that's incremental about it. The design has progressed a tiny amount and for the most part we like it, but it's not a dramatic move like we've seen from Samsung, so will likely be perceived as much of the same. The Z5's hardware doesn't change hugely from the previous Z3+ either, so some of the experience is similar (and not always to its benefit).

The Sony Xperia Z5 is a beautiful smartphone. It looks good, feels good, sounds good, and almost performs good, unless you really want to game hard on your smartphone. Sony has bet big on its present generation flagship smartphone, but the Xperia Z5 does disappoint in a certain few factors. For one, the camera’s focusing speed is nowhere near the 0.03 seconds that was advertised, and in reality, is quite slow. Secondly, the heating issue still persists, and for a smartphone that bears a price tag of Rs. 52,990, such flaws are not really acceptable. It is a phone that is easy to love, and I have always loved Sony’s devices, but in terms of absolute performance, Samsung’s top-of-the-line Galaxy devices do perform better. The Sony Xperia Z5 is a saga of restricted beauty, and polarising opinions. You will love it for what it is, but you will simultaneously realise that there are other smartphones in the market, that are simply better in terms of core performance.

So, is the Sony Xperia Z5 worth picking up over it’s predecessor, the Z3+? Well, there’s really not much new here. There is a fingerprint scanner that works very well. There’s a new and bigger camera sensor, but it doesn’t really make much of a difference. The internals are practically identical. Personally, I don’t think it’s worth upgrading if you already own the Z3+.

It is no secret that Sony's mobile division is struggling and has been doing so for quite some time. If you're going to buy a Sony phone, make it this one. The Xperia Z5 is the best phone Sony has ever produced and it's up there as one of the best Android phones on the market right now. After the abomination that was the Xperia Z3+, it would have been easy for the company to slip out of the market it was already struggling in. If you're buying these phones SIM-free then the Samsung Galaxy S6 wins, more than £200 cheaper, faster, with a higher-resolution screen and an excellent camera. If you're buying on a contract, though, the Galaxy just got some real competition - the Xperia Z5 has the microSD support and waterproofing protection Samsung fans are crying out for, and with better battery life and more impressive audio quality to boot. Of course, it also has an outstanding camera and offers plenty of raw processing power, especially in graphics. The Z3 Compact was one of the unquestionable standouts of 2014, so the Z5 compact had some pretty big shoes to fill from the outset. Sony’s Xperia Z5 is one of the most desirable and feature-packed phones of 2015, boasting a strong everyday camera, sharp visuals that can be customised how you like and an improved (but still gorgeous) design that incorporates one of the best fingerprint sensors yet. Do a higher-megapixel camera and fingerprint scanner revitalise the Sony Xperia Z series, and see it rise up to the top of the Android broth? Not quite. This is a very good phone, but it’s launching at a significantly higher price than any of its direct rivals are now available for. This makes it hard to recommend the Xperia Z5 too strongly when it has no killer feature to offer over any of the other recent Android kings. It’s also just not as comfortable to hold as some of them. That sounds like a slight issue, but it matters much more than a few hundred points on a benchmark test.

What's new in the Sony Xperia Z5?
Sorgente: Tech Advisor Inglese EN→IT Archive.org version
The Sony Xperia Z5 introduces some nice upgrades over the Z3+, with an improved camera and a new fingerprint scanner. There's also support for more removable storage via microSD, although we suspect few users will take advantage of the full 200GB. However, with more than a £100 price difference between the Z3+ and Z5 when it launches, and no upgrades in the screen or core hardware, we would consider waiting for the price to drop a little before rushing out to upgrade.

What's the difference between Sony's new Xperia Z5 phones?
Sorgente: Tech Advisor Inglese EN→IT Archive.org version
The desire for a smaller phone shouldn't mean you have to compromise on its hardware or specification, and that's something Sony has absolutely nailed with its Xperia Z line-up. Whether you want a small-, medium- or large phone you'll get almost the same deal. With what we expect will be very little difference in performance, your buying choice very much comes down to what size phone you need and how much you have to spend - with the Z3 and Z3 Compact we found with its similar specification but significantly lower price the Compact actually offered the best value.

However, there’s no denying that the Xperia Z5 is an attractive beast, with a new frosted rear panel that’s more resistant to finger smudges. Building the fingerprint sensor into the edge of the phone was a genius move, as your thumb naturally rests there when you grip the handset, and the fact that you don’t have to swipe your digit over the sensor means that unlocking your phone is quick and effortless as well as secure. Plus, it makes the Xperia Z5 that little bit easier to use one-handed.

Sorgente: Pocket Lint Inglese EN→IT Archive.org version
Sony Xperia Z flagships have had their ups and downs. Often pushing the specs, we loved the Z1, were less impressed with the Z2, thought the Z3 was great, before the mediocre Z3+ arrived. For some, the Z5 might be a little too close to the Z3+ for comfort, but our first experience with this new model has been good. It remains to be seen if the Z5 repeats the Z3+'s hot (literally) performance, so of course, we're looking forward to fully reviewing this new model in the real world and hoping that Sony has done enough for this to emerge as a true flagship.

We really like what we’ve seen from the Xperia Z5 so far. The design is refined and more premium, and its frosted glass back is as easy on the eyes as it is a pleasure to hold.
