Una scelta ponderata e probabilmente corretta in questo momento del mercato ma forse non sarà sufficiente l’anno prossimo, almeno a giudicare da quanto aggressivi siano gli avversari. Anche il prezzo, nonostante le interessanti promozioni di permuta dell’usato, rimane decisamente elevato considerando che siamo alla sesta generazione, si parte infatti da 2099 euro (100 euro in più rispetto al lancio dello Z Fold5).

Il prezzo di partenza di Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 6 è di 2.099 euro, che sono 100 euro in più dell’anno scorso. Ci aspettavamo sicuramente una tendenza diversa: magari non un’incredibile discesa dei prezzi ma quanto meno la stabilità visto che la tecnologia è un po’ più rodata adesso. L’investimento necessario quindi non è poco e per molti la scelta sarà difficoltosa. Samsung Galaxy z Fold 6: prezzo e conclusioni Quindi… vale la pena prendere Z Fold 6? Dipende da cosa state cercando, anche perché la concorrenza è bella agguerrita e qualcuno offre l’agognato display dal form factor standard sulla parte esterna, che potrebbe tentare soprattutto coloro che puntano ad un foldable con l’idea di avere uno schermo più grande. Le funzioni software del Fold però fanno davvero la differenza, soprattutto per chi è votato alla produttività e ancora di più per coloro che vorranno acquistare la S Pen.

Per giudicare il Galaxy Fold 6 non ci si può fermare al solo aspetto hardware, va considerato tutto l’insieme. Non ci riferiamo solo alla presenza di Galaxy AI, che inizia ad essere davvero rilevante, ma alla stessa esperienza che si ha non solo grazie alla OneUI e a tutti i moduli di personalizzazione GoodLock ma anche grazie agli schermi, caratterizzati da un form factor che non piacerà a tutti ma che permette di avere due dispositivi (diversi) in uno. Siamo consapevoli di trovarci davanti ad un prodotto particolare e controverso, perché ognuno ha determinate preferenze: c’è chi lo avrebbe voluto con la penna integrata, visto che alcune delle nuove funzioni IA si appoggiano alla penna, c’è chi lo avrebbe voluto più economico e c’è chi avrebbe voluto una risposta di forza al design spinto dei produttori cinesi.

I Galaxy Z sono lo standard de facto nei dispositivi pieghevoli disponibili a livello globale, con il Fold in particolare che ha forse anche meno concorrenza del Flip al di fuori della Cina. E questo stato di apparente mancanza di sfida può aver plasmato le attuali specifiche dello Z Fold6 che non si sono rinnovate troppo rispetto alla precedente generazione. Samsung Galaxy Z Fold6 è la naturale evoluzione della precedente generazione. Le novità ci sono anche se non evidentissime o numerose ma l’idea che vogliamo far passare dopo averlo utilizzato per giorni è che questo tipo di prodotto oggi non è più un prodotto concept ossia prototipo per lo sviluppo in futuro del vero device.

Un prezzo davvero elevato ma che definirei quasi "virtuale" perché quello reale con tutte le promo che ci sono scende parecchio. Sul sito Samsung e anche su Amazon trovate il coupon per chi si è iscritto alla newsletter (o su Amazon quello da 200 euro), la supervalutazione dell'usato, 12 mesi di protezione contro i danni accidentali e quando scadranno magari ne arriveranno altre. Chi vuole passare ad un pieghevole di questo form factor e non ha chissà quali problemi con il display esterno più stretto e meno usabile di questo può ancora puntare sullo Z Fold 5 (magari andate a provarlo in un negozio per capire). Chi invece vuole a tutti i costi quello più sottile e leggero c'è il Magic V2 di Honor che però è inferiore come ottimizzazione software.

Samsung ha fatto ancora una volta il miglior pieghevole "a libro" in circolazione. È vero che non ha spuntato tutte le voci della mia wishlist, come una batteria più capiente, uno schermo esterno ancora più largo o una ricarica più veloce. Nonostante questo l'eccellente qualità costruttiva, l'hardware premium e soprattutto il software fanno ancora una volta la differenza. A questo si aggiungono i 7 anni di aggiornamenti che danno un senso anche all'investimento, che purtroppo però anche quest'anno diventa ancora più importante, rendendolo ancora più elitario.

Anche perchè il prezzo è comunque decisamente importante. Il modello base da 256 GB di memoria parte da 2099 euro, ma si sale fino a 2219 per quello da 512 Gb e 2459 per quello da 1Tb. Al netto di sconti e promozioni sono prezzi oggettivamente alti in valore assoluto e restano il primo e principale ostacolo alla democratizzazione di questa categoria di prodotto. Tuttavia, se avete a disposizione questo budget e siete incuriositi dal formato Fold 6 è probabilmente la soluzione che è in grado di offrire l'esperienza d'uso più completa e coerente per questo tipo di prodotto.

The Fold 6 is a perfectly fine foldable, a perfectly sophisticated and well-engineered machine that’s unfortunately just not that memorable. Camera fans will find the Galaxy Z Fold 6 doesn't have Samsung's best optics slapped on, despite that high asking price. It can't compare to the S24 Ultra for night shots and video, although for most other situations this foldable is worthy. Battery life is another area where the Samsung Z Fold 6 doesn't hold up to rivals, and recharging is sadly slow as well.

Multitasking on the big screen is effortless, build quality is as good as foldables get, and the battery reliably lasts a day or more. Heck, you can plug the whole dang thing into a display and use it like a computer. Samsung pioneered the foldable phone, but now it’s stubbornly iterating on that original concept — and it feels like the time for iteration is over. The company seems committed to its current long and narrow template rather than adopting a wider format. Personally, I think the OnePlus Open is the ideal foldable design, and it’s about halfway between the tall and skinny Z Fold 6 and the wide and short Google Pixel Fold.

However, I don't want to reward Samsung for twiddling its thumbs for the last three years, simply because no one else can compete with it. The camera department hasn't evolved in two years. Performance still lags behind other, less expensive high-end smartphones. The same goes for the charging speed. As for the design, frankly, it hasn't evolved enough in my opinion. I tear my hair out when I see some reviews devote three paragraphs to the fact that the Z Fold 6 is 14 grams lighter. Isn't that insane? Yes, the Galaxy Z Fold 6 is the best foldable smartphone on the market, there is no question about it.

There are a couple of things I'm going to save for the full review, such as the camera along with diving deeper into performance and battery life. With performance, the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 for Galaxy performs just as well as you'd suspect. The Fold 6 is fast and snappy, as I have yet to run into any game-breaking slow-downs, save for when I'm trying to emulate Switch games. But again, more on that in the full review. Although I talked about a lot here, there's still so much more that I want to cover, such as Samsung DeX, the cameras, and gaming. Even still, the Galaxy Z Fold 6 has managed to surprise and impress, despite me having basically written it off before Samsung announced it. I don't know what else I'll find in my testing, but be sure to reach out if there's something specific you would like to see covered.

I know that it sounds like I’ve already written the Galaxy Z Fold 6 off but we’ll reserve final judgement for the full review. Display testing, performance benchmarks, camera samples and battery life results may well end up being so impressive that they claw back a positive review. After this first hands-on, however, the Galaxy Z Fold 6 feels like Samsung is asking too much and delivering too little.

At face value, even with all the upgrades, I can’t say whether the Z Fold 6 is worth the price increase, but I’m interested in finding out. The Z Flip 6 also increased to $1,462.99 from $1,299. Again, I can’t say if this price increase is worth it without putting the handset through its paces, but considering it mostly received quality-of-life updates, I doubt it. I love foldable smartphones, so I will spend a lot of time with both handsets, especially the Z Fold 6. I’m curious to see whether the wider screen is enough to make it stand out against the OnePlus Open. I would also like to see if the Z Flip 6 can compete against the Moto Razr+.
