The Galaxy Z Fold 4 doesn’t deliver much in the way of talking points – it’s more an inter-generational upgrade than a substantial leap forward – but as the Fold 3 was the first foldable to hit the mainstream, I don’t think that’s necessarily a bad thing. The IPX8 waterproofing remains a big bonus, and the design, despite imitations coming thick and fast from other manufacturers, hasn’t been matched. Last year’s phone defined the formula, and this year’s model stirs in a handful of minor quality of life improvements – all of which make the phone more well-rounded than ever. Except, of course, those slight changes will cost you. Starting at £1,649 for the 256GB model and rising to £2,019 for the 1TB version, this year’s Fold is £50 more expensive than the last. Sure, with a starting price as high as that, this increase is a drop in the ocean, but it certainly doesn’t make the Galaxy Z Fold 4 a more appealing purchase.

The Samsung Galaxy Z Fold4 is, in this reviewer's subjective opinion, the best large-style foldable smartphone on the market, despite its shortcomings, of which there are quite a few in the context of its competitors. The hardware looks rather dated and isn't as appealing as some other foldables - it's not the thinnest by any stretch of the imagination, and the hinge has a gap. The cameras aren't the best around - they're probably not even the best on a foldable. Charging speed isn't amazing, and while this is the smoothest Samsung we've ever handled, it still lags behind in that domain somewhat. And yet.

Are foldables the next big thing for phones, or merely a passing fad? The Galaxy Z Fold 4 makes a strong argument for the former. All it took was a few features borrowed from the desktop PC world, and it has been transformed into a device that’s purpose-built for multi-tasking. Add in the camera setup worthy of its top-tier status, a welcome power boost and the fact it’s that little bit more usable as a phone than last year’s effort, and the bar has very much been raised – despite Samsung still holding back in one or two areas so as not to steal too many flagship fans away from the Galaxy S22 Ultra. The astronomical price means we can’t recommend it to everyone – but tech addicts with an extra-long to-do list will find lots to like.

Small changes make a big difference. On paper, nothing about the Galaxy Z Fold 4 screams “huge upgrade” over the Z Fold 3, and it’s easy to assume it’s just an iterative update that doesn’t solve any of the issues people have with big folding smartphones. But that’s not the case. The small changes to the shape, weight, and specifications have made it a far more realistic everyday device for a lot more people, provided you can get past the high price. Even then, there’s actually good value here when you consider the longevity offered by the hardware and software. The Galaxy Z Fold 4 looks and feels futuristic and contains cutting-edge tech, but that cannot be said about the battery and charging. It charges slowly compared to many other current phones, and there’s a very real likelihood of the battery running out before the end of the day if you use the phone as it demands to be used.

Samsung’s latest book-style foldable isn’t rebuilt — it’s refined. It brings key improvements to areas where the cutting-edge device needed them most — namely the cameras and software. The trio of rear shooters feels far more capable of living up to the exorbitant price tag, even if the measly under-display selfie option is still a “look at me” feature as opposed to being truly useful. Android 12L, however, is the key that brings the Fold together. It can bring a smile to any multitasker’s face, even if the ever-present middle crease offers a few raindrops on an otherwise sunny day. Samsung’s prospective competition remains limited, at least in the US, which means the Galaxy ecosystem is your best chance to try a foldable phone for at the very least another year. The company’s generous trade-in deals (at least if you already have a Samsung phone) also make it more affordable than ever to get your hands on one. While the more conservative buyers will find themselves drawn to the smaller, cheaper, and generally more practical Galaxy Z Flip 4, the Galaxy Z Fold 4 reclaims its spot as the most innovative ultra-premium smartphone available to the world at large.

Six months after the launch of the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 4, it is still the best foldable phone on the market. It has the best software, the best camera, the best availability, and the most features. Although there are some competitors out there, nothing can even hold a candle to the Galaxy Z Fold 4 when it comes to the full foldable phone package. If you’re after a more compact option then the Galaxy Z Flip 4 ($999.99 at Samsung) might be more alluring, but for those that want the biggest and best, the Fold is it. The second major problem with buying a Galaxy Z Fold 4 in 2023 is all the other foldables we expect to land this year. As mentioned earlier, Google and OnePlus will probably launch foldables soon, and they could offer different or possibly even better features when compared to Samsung. In Europe, things are getting even more hotly contested, with contenders from OPPO, Honor, and even Huawei. This all opens up the possibility of buyer’s remorse when you realize you shelled out for a Galaxy Z Fold 4 and now wish you’d invested in something else. The silver lining, though, is that you can get a Galaxy Z Fold 4 on the cheap very easily right now. My advice is this: If money is no object to you, wait to see what Samsung, Google, and OnePlus do this year, but if you’re on a budget, grab a Galaxy Z Fold 4 now. If you’re not made of cash, you probably wouldn’t buy the new 2023 foldables when they launch anyway, so you’ve got nothing to lose and will be very happy with the Galaxy Z Fold 4.

Samsung is still killing the foldable market; they are the undisputed leader in this tech. Other brands make foldable devices, but not at this scale or this level. Samsung continues improving with the Galaxy Z Fold4 and Galaxy Z Flip4. Each device is made for different people. Each device has a very different price tag. If you want to buy a foldable, you should look at both of these devices. Nothing else in the United States smartphone market can compete with them in this vertical. The Samsung Galaxy Z Fold4’s battery performance was at the low end of our global ranking, which is usually the case for devices in our Ultra-premium segment. However, the Z Fold4 showed battery performance improvements in all our subscores over its predecessor the Z Fold3 5G. In moderate use, the Z Fold4’s autonomy was better than the Z Fold3 5G. When testing some use cases separately, such as calling and video streaming, the Z Fold4 showed decent autonomy and low discharge currents, meaning that the device has been well-optimized for such usage. However, when the device was tested outside and unfolded to take to photos and videos, the battery drained very quickly. The autonomy when using GPS navigation was low, too. The small 25W charger kept the charging pace slow, and a 5-minute charge only provided 2 hours and 36 minutes of autonomy. In addition, the charge efficiency was low. However, the residual consumption of the charger was well-managed. Wireless charging wasn’t any better and showed very high residual consumption. Compared with other Ultra-premium devices in our database, the Z Fold4’s autonomy was slightly above average, which is decent for a foldable phone.

Both these aspects will make it difficult for some people to truly exploit its massive ability. There are fewer compromises here than with its predecessors, the work that has gone into making the phone’s design more compliant and usable is really impressive, and fears over durability have largely been removed. The software has matured nicely, with most apps and services working cohesively across both screens. And because of the long-term support updates that come from Samsung and Google’s ongoing partnership, the Z Fold 4 will keep feeling fresh for years to come. Even with the shorter-than-desired battery life, the Galaxy Z Fold 4 is the most complete, does-everything, will-last-for-years mobile device you can buy today.

With its beautiful screen and extreme portability, the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold4 is almost like a tablet and smartphone combined into one. That might be the reason for its excruciating price tag of £1,374 (exc. VAT) for the 256GB version and £1,474 for the 512GB version (the 1TB version isn't currently for sale). For the same money, you could get smartphones such as a £916 iPhone 14 Pro, a £849 Google Pixel 7 Pro, or even a £1,149 Samsung Galaxy S22 Ultra. Looking at tablets, you could buy the £1,316 Microsoft Surface Pro 8, the £916 Apple iPad Pro 12.9in (2021), or the £500 Lenovo Tab P11 Pro. Just to highlight Samsung Galaxy Z Fold4's price tag: You could buy a Google Pixel 7 Pro and a Lenovo Tab P11 Pro and have £25 left over. That being said, the device has great benefits like amazing photo functionality, extreme portability compared to modern smartphones, and a rich, crisp, screen. Though, realistically, you're not going to be able to spend a whole day working off this device either.

The first Fold felt very much like a proof of concept, but four generations in, the Fold 4 now provides a very good experience that you just can’t get from a standard smartphone. It’s not that the Fold 4 is the best at any particular task, but it is good at all of them and having all of those options in a device that fits in your pocket can’t be understated. Future iterations (and hopefully some competition from other phone makers) will likely improve it further and perhaps one day we’ll all be carrying such versatile devices in our pockets. But if you want that future today, the Fold 4 is the way to get it.

Do I recommend this smartphone then? If you can afford it (and the fact that it is a devilishly expensive device - from 900 to 1260 dollars depending on the variant), and you do not have it yet, it is definitely worth going to the store. Take it first, because Flip may suit you better, but if you feel good with Galaxy Z Fold4 in your hand, you can buy it without hesitation. But what if you have the previous generation of Fold? In that case, you'd better wait for the fifth installment. Galaxy Z Fold 3. It's pretty cool anyway, and while its successor is actually cooler, it doesn't necessarily pay off to switch from its predecessor. Switching from Samsung Galaxy Z Fold2 to Fold 4 may make more sense. This is a good strategy for any flagship smartphone - it's best to buy every second generation. I have always recommended it and it is a perfect confirmation of my thesis.

As I said above, Samsung’s Galaxy S22 Ultra is still the most complete Android phone of 2022 because of its superior camera system and built-in S Pen. But if you are less of a photography enthusiast and want a smartphone to work on, then the best productivity device is without question the Galaxy Z Fold 4. It’s also great fun to use, turns heads when you use it in public, has solid and reliable cameras, lots of unique features and is water resistant. Rival foldables from OPPO, Xiaomi and Huawei are at this point unavailable in Ireland which makes Galaxy Z Fold 4 not just one of the best phones you can buy but the best foldable you can buy.

So should you be thinking of investing in the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 4? At its starting price of USD 1499 / INR 1,54,999, it is definitely one of the most expensive phones out there. And as some will point out, it actually costs about as much as an iPhone 14 and an iPad Air taken together. But as a single entity, there is nothing quite like the Fold 4 out there. The Flip 4 might turn heads with its design and Razr-like flippability, but if you want a foldable for hardcore work then the Fold 4 is a no-brainer. Cynics might snort that it is basically a spec upgrade from the Fold 3, which was already a formidable device, but that does not change the fact that it is easily the best-performing foldable out there by some distance and can give any flagship a run for its money in terms of performance, No, it is not perfect (what is, for that matter!) but in our books, it is simply the only foldable worth buying for folks who want a foldable for function than for flaunt.

Samsung has been pushing Android hardware forward since the beginning and the new Galaxy Z Fold 4 is the latest device moving the needle of what’s possible in the mobile landscape. This is an outstanding iteration of the infant foldable market that takes it into just regular phone territory. Pricing for the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 4 may be the only drawback. The full price over at AT&T is $1,800 out of your wallet, but payments are also an option. For the 256GB model you can get by at $50 per month. Add $3 more on that plan, though, and you can snag the 512GB edition. Each is available in three colors to suit your fancy: Gray Green, Phantom Black, and Beige. If you consume a ton of media or just love having a unique phone, the Galaxy Z Fold 4 fits the bill.

The Samsung Galaxy Z Fold4 provides users with an excellent video experience for HDR10 content. It also comes with much better smoothness than its predecessor, but like the Z Fold3 5G, the crease on the Z Fold4 remains visible. The Z Fold4 has a very stable angular performance in color, meaning that the color differences of both sides of the screen are minimized; you will see a difference only at important angles. While it has good overall color fidelity, the Z Fold4’s behavior is similar to Samsung phones in the S22 series — that is, its high brightness mode under sunlight boosts colors to the point where some content looks flat. Users may find the under-display pinhole camera distracting, as it is visible most of the time, especially on light content (as can be seen in the aliasing illustration at the end of this article).

There’s no denying that foldables are the most innovative segment in the smartphone space. The foldable displays allow Samsung and other manufacturers to deliver new form factors that make these devices more useful. Unfortunately, I don’t think the Galaxy Z Fold 4 moved the needle forward. Sure, it’s more powerful and has better cameras, but Samsung didn’t offer any meaningful improvements to the main feature of the phone. If you already own the Galaxy S Fold 2 or last year’s Fold 3, there’s really no reason to upgrade. Personally, I think Samsung’s new Flip 4 does a better job at showing off the foldable display technology while also bringing back the classic flip phone design that we all know and love. There’s nothing really wrong with the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 4. I just don’t think it’s as interesting as its size and price make it out to be.

Of course, a device like Galaxy Z Fold4 5G would always have room for improvement. Putting aside the uncertainty of creases, Samsung could also try a version with even better IP ratings and add a MicroSD card slot, or ramp up the Main Screen’s resolution for even more enjoyment. But these suggested changes – like the ones that already went onto the Fold4 – are also mostly under the hood, so the form factor’s pros and cons are here to stay (until Samsung creates something entirely different). If you want none of the additional multi-tasking benefits, but still want a phone with a foldable display, you can grab the Galaxy Z Flip4 5G and spare yourself from spending an additional $1,000+. For the past forty days, the Samsung Galaxy Fold 4 has been my calendar; my camera; my Kindle. It’s been my journal; my hotel-room juke box; my little East River ferryboat mini laptop. And of course: it’s been my phone. It’s true that most smartphones are that multifaceted in 2022 – but the Galaxy Fold 4 is different. Because it’s more than a phone: it’s a foldable. And as a result, it does most of those jobs better. I’m Michael Fisher. Find out why I’m still excited about Samsung’s most iterative Fold yet, in MrMobile’s Galaxy Z Fold 4 Review! CORRECTION The Fold 4 has an IPX8 rating for water resistance ONLY, not an IP68 rating (which would include dust resistance). MrMobile regrets the error.

Samsung is betting big on foldable phones like the Galaxy Z Fold 4, and the Koreans aren’t afraid to lace their most expensive product with top-shelf technology. The price is then – you can buy a used car for the same money – and the question is, who is actually in the target audience? There’s no doubt that the foldable format is here to stay, and the Galaxy Z Fold 4 delivers on most counts. Even with a really good camera, which is the best we’ve seen in the Galaxy Z Fold series to date. But while the uses are many, we think few will actually get anything out of the big foldable screen and what goes with it in terms of multitasking and related mobile productivity features. This is not meant as a criticism, but simply a reminder to potential buyers to consider their needs carefully before breaking the bank. The Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 4 is a smartphone for the few, but if you’re among the select few (e.g. professional influencers, digital nomads, entrepreneurs, journalists, etc.) there may be many good reasons to consider a purchase.

To be fair, the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold4 isn’t a radical departure in form and function from its predecessor the Galaxy Fold3. It builds on the successes of its forebear and is enhanced in subtle yet meaningful ways. You get more comfortable to use displays with wider aspect ratios, an enhanced primary triple camera array on the rear and a lighter, slightly slimmer chassis with specifications worthy of a flagship. Granted, some examples of foldables from competitors have appeared locally with flatter, sleeker displays but Samsung’s staunch commitment of offering at least 4 years of OS updates all the way to Android 16 and 5 years of security updates still leads the pack by a mile. If you’re looking for the best foldable in the market, the Galaxy Z Fold4 stands heads and shoulders above all else for 2022.

For those used to Samsung’s OneUI user interface and their ecosystem, transferring over to the Galaxy Z Fold4 is as easy as it gets. The Samsung Smart Switch app easily transferred everything including apps and stored messages and texts over to the new phone and there’s relatively little change in terms of the user interface to warrant a look at the help page. While I’ve only enjoyed a scant few days of use, the more efficient Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 CPU seems to noticeably offer improved endurance and standby times along with gratifyingly swift performance. The rear triple camera finally give the Fold series. truly flagship worthy imaging capabilities after giving it a quick whirl around the block in daytime and low light shots. The minor savings in weight aren’t immediately apparent just yet after a few days toting it about but we’ll elaborate on it in more detail in our Galaxy Z Fold4 review in the near future.

Yes, if you can accept the durability issues of the device. Samsung's folding phones have been desirable to early adopters but usually are not recommended as daily drivers for most people due to mainly two things: high price tag and durability. Both areas have been improved here, with the Fold dropping a couple of hundred dollars since the first generation, multiple durability improvements, and even gaining an IP water resistance rating since the third generation. The Galaxy Fold is becoming more of a polished product. This year brought some minor refinements that play a significant role in this device's evolution. If you are willing to be more cautious with your smartphone and pay a high price tag, the Galaxy Z Fold 4 provides an experience that most smartphones don't replicate.

There once was a time when companies tried to make phones as small as possible. Then larger screens became the must-have feature. As Samsung's foldable designs, including the Z Flip, improve with each iteration and more companies adopt these form factors, the future of phones is starting to look foldable. I, for one, certainly wouldn't go back to a normal handset.

I won't beat around the bush – the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 4 is unlike any other phone today. The sole reason to consider it is still its magically cinematic 7.6-inch foldable Main Display – it makes using those same boring apps and everything mundane look an event of a galactic level! Plus, it has a hidden camera! Beat that Apple. Add to it the flawless performance, a set of great cameras, and the tastefully designed One UI experience, the Galaxy Z Fold 4 becomes an easy recommendation for anyone with deep pockets. Yes, it is not all good here. The Galaxy Z Fold 4 is cumbersome in the pockets and the palms. Practicality is not at its best, especially if you are switching from a conventional smartphone. Plus durability is a concern when you consider its biggest moving part – the hinge; it can go wrong when exposed to the dusty Indian conditions. And Samsung is yet to prove the durability of the flexible OLED panels, since complaints of peeling layers from Fold 3 have surfaced a lot.

The Samsung Galaxy Z Fold4 is probably the best Android smartphone for any tech enthusiast like me who wants to be able to do everything on a single device. It’s a phone cum tablet, and it can also function like a desktop! The Z Fold 4 fully enables you to do anything you’ve ever wanted on Android, thanks to many wonderful and refined features like Samsung DeX, windowed multitasking, split screen and stylus support. There are some trade-offs as well, like the battery performance along with its slow charging speeds. However, they are not significant enough to spoil the overall experience. The Galaxy Z Fold 4 is the phone to get if you want a device that can do most of your tasks. However, the Rs. 1,54,999 price tag remains a significant barrier for many users, and while the design and build have improved, this remains one of the largest and bulkiest phones in the market.

Everyone was expecting that Samsung’s next foldable smartphone will come with some next-level of changes and improvements. That certainly didn’t happen, but only in the way it looks. Beneath that, a lot has changed and it’s more than incremental. The entire experience of using a Fold series phone has moved from decent to impressive. The truth is it is not necessary for the brands to come up with design changes every year. It’s about adding improvements to an already functional design and making it better, more usable and practical. For instance, the broader display and slimmer hinge mechanism add convenience and practicality. The updated chipset brings performance and efficiency improvements. The updated camera setup allows the flagship phone to deliver flagship-like camera performance and so on. The new software experience with Android 12L, new taskbar and updated Flex mode take the user experience to another level and as much as I remember no other smartphone can deliver and even if there’s one, it can’t do it as skeely as the Z Fold4.

The Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 4 is a very good iterative update over the Galaxy Z Fold 3. This new phone has a more power-efficient SoC, improved primary and telephoto cameras, and better battery life. It's also a tad easier to handle – but make no mistake, it's still a chunky smartphone and the folding display still needs to be used with a lot more care than a regular phone display. Prices have increased, but if you have the budget for it, the Galaxy Z Fold 4 is definitely a more practical large-screen smartphone than the iPhone 13 Pro Max. If you're not too concerned about the improvements that the new model offers, then it's a great time to consider the Galaxy Z Fold 3. Prices now start at Rs. 1,39,999 and you can get the 512GB variant for Rs. 1,47,999, which is less than what the Galaxy Z Fold 4 costs.

The Galaxy Fold smartphone series has come a long way since its introduction in 2019. The Galaxy Z Fold 4 is more usable and practical than its predecessors. Of course, there’s scope for improvements, but I won’t hesitate from recommending this smartphone if only your priority is multitasking. That being said, its budget is a big factor, since customers have options to buy a host of phones in this range. Currently, Samsung gets an upper hand in the foldable segment since its rivals like Xiaomi and Oppo are yet to expand their foldables outside China. More competition could mean more aggressive pricing. If you have the budget for the Galaxy Z Fold 4, I won't shy away from recommending it. In my heart, I hope its price drops to the 1 lakh mark, then more users will get to experience the marvel Samsung is creating.

Apart from the small niggles like the relatively slow charging speeds and the absence of a silo for the S Pen, you’ll have to contend with the price tag (which isn’t surprisingly high really). Barring that and the size-related issues I mentioned above, it’s clear that the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold4 is pretty much the most capable and loaded Android smartphone available right now, delivering productivity and entertainment in a package no other smartphone can match, except its own predecessor maybe. And therein lies the problem, at least from my perspective. I think it’s time Samsung broke the mould and come up with something that changes status quo once again — possibly something that innovates on the form factor and adds more use cases to the mix, or something that reduces the size and weight, or brings down the price substantially, thereby making foldable tech accessible to more people. As far as the Galaxy Z Fold4 is concerned, whether it’s for you or not is for you to figure out, but if you decide to commit, you’d be able to call yourself the proud owner of a capable and flexible all-rounder.

As you learn to use the Galaxy Z Fold 4 in its many different configurations, it will feel like a new and powerful tool time and time again. It makes little difference that Samsung didn’t reinvent the wheel at the end of the day because the Fold remains an excellent — if expensive — technological marvel.

Foldable phones may be settling into their fourth generation but it’s still pretty rare to see one in out in the wild. However, that could all potentially change this year as South Korea’s Samsung, the company that’s largely unopposed in the foldy phones space, amps up its promotional efforts into overdrive and narrows in on the fashion-conscious Gen Z and status-minded executive markets. That includes everything from influencer tie-ups to pre-order sweeteners. But can the marketing blitz succeed in making foldable phones a thing?

But let’s say you’re already using a prior Galaxy Fold device. Is it worth paying up to get the Galaxy Z Fold 4? If you’re using a Galaxy Z Fold 3, it probably isn’t worth spending $800 or more to upgrade. Changes are iterative as mentioned, and the only big boosts are with battery life and the primary camera. Personally, I went ahead with my own trade-in with the hopes that the camera would mean the Fold could be my daily driver more often, but it was just barely worthwhile for me. If you have an earlier generation, though, it’s hard not to recommend making the jump! During pre-orders, Samsung was still offering $1,000 for a Galaxy Z Fold 2 to move up to the Fold 4, and up to $925 for an original Fold. At those values, it’s definitely worth the jump if you can afford it. The Fold 4 is just a significant jump forward from either device. Trade-in values are sure to drop a bit following the formal launch, but if you can shave $800 or more off the cost of a Fold 4, I’d say go for it.

Even for enthusiasts like me, the Z Fold experience is one that keeps giving, with new use cases and software tricks that unravel as you flex the device throughout your daily life. At first glance the Galaxy Z Fold 4 isn't particularly different to the outgoing Z Fold 3. But then this isn't really an 'upgraders' phone in my view. Since using the newer Fold for a fortnight I've found the marginally different aspect ratios make both screens – whether the exterior in folded position or interior in unfolded form – altogether more usable, while productivity through Taskbar and multitasking split-screen is better than you'll find on other phones, given the tablet-like unfolded scale. That said, I'm half disappointed there's no integrated S Pen stylus, as was rumoured, while the under-display camera can still be a distraction, and there's always going to be inherent reflection and crease issues with a device such as this. Having said all of that, when you step back and simply marvel at the Z Fold 4 for all its technological amazingness, it's really hard to not be astonished. Just look at it. Overall, Samsung continues to offer the best large-screen folding phone on the market, no doubt, and once you get used to this expansive way of working in Android it could be a total game-changer.

To wrap this up, let's say that the Fold4 is not perfect. But it's not like there are readily available alternatives everywhere and the ones you could come up with have their own sets of issues. The Fold3 was already the most well-rounded and feature-packed foldable on the market then, and the Fold4 can easily claim that title now. It comes with the same nominal price tag as last year's model at launch, and with the generational improvements accounted for and an economy that's seen better days, that's no small feat. Even at MSRP, the Galaxy Fold4 can make sense to the right buyer, though the sensible thing would be to wait a month or two for the inevitable price drop.

And let's not forget, this phone is $1,800. As of the publication, there are still a few hours left to pre-order the phone and get enhanced trade-in values, and you should do that if you're considering taking the leap into foldables. Otherwise, wait for a sale. Most people don't need to spend big on a foldable right now, but the day is coming when the Z Fold family or something like it will be a mainstream hit. I highly recommend the Galaxy Z Fold 4. It takes a very good smartphone from last year and makes the right improvements to create something that’s bigger than the sum of just those improvements. Ultimately, it’s the phone you could recommend to anybody if you can stomach the price. The new camera is a big improvement over the Galaxy Z Fold 3, and if you’ve been disappointed by the Galaxy Z Fold 3 camera, I would recommend upgrading to the Z Fold 4. I personally think the additional cost is worth it, especially if you plan to keep it for two years or more. The Galaxy Z Fold 4 is also the best phone for getting things done on the go. When I’m in a taxi, on the couch, on a train or even walking down the street, I’m always firing open the Main Screen to jot something down, to tweet while watching something, or even as a Kindle book reader. It’s not the perfect device, but the trade-offs made in the Galaxy Z Fold 4 aren’t big enough to take away from the overall experience. For existing Galaxy Z Fold 3 owners, of course, the decision has been a tricky one. Samsung's trade-in deals have been ample; the cost of upgrading to this new foldable has been relatively low. At the same time, the company has been coy about confirming which of the software improvements will be added retroactively to the Fold 3. Even if features like the nifty taskbar do get pushed out as updates, though, the hardware refinements of the Fold 4 do elevate it beyond just the OS changes. It's easy to be dismissive about evolutionary improvements, but tweaks like the slightly wider — and thus more usable — cover display and more capable cameras have an outsized impact on how rewarding this new Galaxy Z is to use day to day. For the mainstream user, the cheaper Galaxy Z Flip 4 is clearly the way to go. More affordable and more readily understood in concept, it's foldable phone tech at its most approachable. Those who are already onboard, however, will find the Galaxy Z Fold 4 not only brings the convenience of flexibility but unlocks its productivity benefits most compellingly, too.

Samsung's Z Fold 4 is a stellar device, and I've been over the moon happy with being able to use a foldable again. With high-quality productivity, multi-tasking, a slightly lighter build and a good camera, this handset is definitely an improvement. Foldables still aren't for everyone and some people are still holding out until Apple or Google make foldables of their own. But if you're currently in the market for a foldable in Canada and don't mind dropping $2,269 then I'd really suggest you take a look at the Fold 4. Yes, I am a foldable enthusiast, but being able to really work on my creative writing on a large display that doesn't feel like it's going to easily snap is stellar. For the most part, smartphones are starting to plateau. And there's barely any difference between last year's S22 Ultra versus S21 Ultra or iPhone 13 Pro versus iPhone 12 Pro. I've always been someone who loves the gimmicks, and while a folding phone is great for productivity, all-in-all it's one big gimmick. Whether it's one that's worth an added $1,000 outright, definitely depends on the person. But it's a gimmick that excites me, and if I were to buy a phone right now this would definitely be the one -- if I had that $2,269 to spend on a phone.

When it comes to how you feel about the Z Fold 4, I think a lot of that depends on your opinion about foldables in general. There’s no denying that Samsung’s latest and greatest is still way bulkier than a standard smartphone, and at $1,800 it’s a lot more expensive too. And when you consider that its design is essentially the same as before, I doubt the upgrades included in this generation are really going to sway the naysayers. For current Z Fold 3 owners, it’s also kind of the same. The improvements are nice, but not really worth shelling out a bunch of money to upgrade after only a year.

Instead of coming up with a brand new design, for its fourth-generation big screen foldable, Samsung opted for a bunch of tweaks and refinements. The Z Fold 4 news Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 provides faster performance and markedly longer battery life, while a new 50MP main sensor and 3x telephoto zoom deliver an upgraded photography experience. Samsung has continued its partnerships with Google and Microsoft to create apps and software including a new taskbar to better support productivity and multitasking. That said, the Z Fold 4 remains heavier and bulkier than a typical smartphone, and with a starting price of $1,800 is still just as expensive as before.

So in conclusion – I know that this review is long because there are lots of details that we need to talk about – the price. For the US, it’s exactly the same as the Galaxy Z Fold3 – which I think is amazing. I’d say if you’re already eyeing to get the Galaxy Z Fold3 but decided not to, then this is the perfect time to get the Galaxy Z Fold4. You can also trade in your current device to get some rebates – which I’ll leave all the links down in the description for you to see.

Is it possible that we've reached the age of refinement in the foldable phone story? With the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 4, Samsung apparently hasn’t tried to reinvent the genre or radically alter the foldable’s display and design. Instead, this latest Galaxy Z device brings a number of small-but-welcome design enhancements over the Z Fold 3, plus a new processor and upgraded camera array. All of this adds up to a handset that’s lighter and thinner than its predecessor, and generally even better equipped to serve as a traditional, 6.2-inch Android 12 handset that just happens to pack an expansive, flexible 7.6-inch display inside. This is a do-everything device that presents few compromises. Yes, the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 4 is, when folded, noticeably thicker than your average smartphone (it’s nearly double the thickness of the Samsung Galaxy S22), and the cover screen is a little narrower than the displays on most Android handsets, but these are small prices to pay for a phone that’s productivity-friendly while being able to slip easily into a pocket when folded.

The Samsung Galaxy Z fold4 preorder sale has been opened, and shipment will start on August 26 onward. Overall, this phone provides impressive specs with comparatively decent features that make this foldable phone more interesting to the competition. You are getting a complete flagship treatment with this phone, while it also has astounding display quality, heavily customized software, powerful software, exciting graphic, a beautiful camera, and long-lasting battery life. With this, the company also add the stylus pen features so that you can utilize this phone more conveniently. However, like most foldable smartphones, the Galaxy Z fold4 will give a big hole in your pockets, and if you have such money, nothing is holding you back. On the other hand, there’s no alternative recommendation for this phone currently. If you want to take a look, the Xiaomi Mix Fold 2 could be a good option for you and could give strong competition to the Samsung fold 4 smartphone.

Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 4 smartphone was launched by Samsung company in August 2022, and the expected price of this smartphone would be roughly $1799 (Rs 1,42,490 in India) approx. The Galaxy Z Fold 4 is Samsung’s most powerful and durable flagship foldable smartphone yet. This 5G smartphone equips a 7.6 inches foldable Dynamic AMOLED 2x display with HDR10+ support. The display doesn’t support the S Pen but does have a 120Hz refresh rate. Samsung has also trimmed the bezels for the internal foldable display. It also has a 6.2 inches Dynamic AMOLED 2X cover display with a 120Hz refresh rate. The Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 4 smartphone is powered by the 4nm Qualcomm Snapdragon SM 8475 8+ Gen 1 processor paired with 12GB of RAM and 256GB to 1TB of internal storage variant. There’s no microSD card slot for external expansion. The camera setup on the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 4 smartphone includes a 50MP sensor with Dual Pixel AF and OIS. It’s paired with a 12MP ultra-wide camera and 10MP telephoto lens with 3x optical. The cover display houses a 10MP and a 4MP under-display camera lens for selfies.

The $999.99 Galaxy Z Flip 4 is an entirely different animal. Yes, it also folds, but it targets fashion-forward buyers looking to use their phones less rather than worker bees who need to get stuff done. We'll have a full review of the Z Flip 4 shortly, but it's not a viable alternative to the Galaxy Fold. If you aren't a fan of the folding design, meanwhile, Samsung's $1,199 Galaxy S22 Ultra is a good option for power users seeking the S Pen stylus experience, and the S22+ remains our mainstream Editors' Choice winner among Android devices. But simply put, the Galaxy Fold 4 is the phone I'm most excited about so far this year. It earns a PCMag Editors' Choice award because no other device pushes the boundaries of smartphone productivity quite the same way.

I really like the Galaxy Z Fold 4, but it’s still hard to recommend it to a lot of people. Firstly, because of the $1,799 price tag here. That’s still tough to swallow for most people. Even though you’re getting a phone and tablet in one, and this does come in cheaper than getting a Galaxy Tab S8 and a Galaxy S22 Ultra. Even though Samsung thinks foldables are mainstream, I don’t think they are. Foldables only represent a 0.5% of the market right now, which is pretty small. And there’s still a number of caveats here like the weight, the size, the fact that most cases aren’t great on this one, among other things. So should you buy it? I’d say only for those that are tech nerds. Should your mom or dad buy it? Definitely not. It’s cool, but they will get annoyed with it really quick.

The Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 4 is a fine evolution of the best foldable phone. And there are times I can see myself ditching my current handset for this beast. It can multitask like no other phone, and I can simply get more done in less time on the latest Fold versus my iPhone. Samsung deserves credit (along with Google) for evolving the software experience with things like the taskbar, better drag and drop support and more optimized apps for Flex mode and larger screens in general. The camera system is especially good this time around the Galaxy Z Fold 4. However, the $1,799 price remains a huge hurdle for adoption, and while the design has improved this is still the largest and heaviest phone around. So you'll have to be willing to deal with these two trade-offs if you want to join the foldable revolution and get PC-like power in your pocket. Stay tuned for our test results and final rating.

The Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 4 is a foldable phone that more than ever looks and feels like a ‘regular’ flagship device. It's thinner, lighter, and has a larger cover screen that can all but make you forget about the giant foldable inside. The camera array is S22-quality good, but at this price you might reasonably hope for S22 Ultra-level lenses.

If you’re not careful, you can still fall into the trap of believing that folding phones are a brand new, bleeding-edge technology. But then maybe you notice the “4” at the end of these model names, or you end up in a bleary-eyed deep-dive into MrMobile's videos … and you realize that it was almost three years ago that I showed you how much Samsung’s first Galaxy Fold helped me search for my first New York City apartment. My time with that review device turned out to be so transformative that I bought my very own Galaxy Fold in January 2020, and two sequels later, I’ve never gone back to a conventional phone for my personal device. Today, it’s the Samsung Galaxy Fold 3 that’s helping me seek out a new Brooklyn apartment (if I can afford it) … and the Galaxy Flip 3 that helps me unwind when I need to close the lid on StreetEasy for a while.

The Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 4 is a welcome update that moves this folding phone into a flagship space with boosted power and new cameras. This remains the big screen folding phone of choice, with software support for wider usage of the display and plenty of quality in all areas. With S Pen support and water protection, it maintains an edge over other folding devices. It's still expensive, however, especially if you opt for anything other than the 256GB starting point for storage.

The awesome new Samsung folding phones are being announced today and we already got to try them for a little while last week. We only had about an hour with the new phones, so don't expect this to be an in-depth review, but it's still fun to share some first impressions about the new devices. Incidentally, if you're in the New York City area, on August 11 through August 31, you can actually go to the Samsung Unpacked Experience exhibit and play with these new devices yourself. The location is 60 Tenth Ave, New York, NY 10014 at the corner of 14th St. It's about a block away from the Samsung 837 store.

So we have another Galaxy Z Fold that is a slight improvement on the last, but perhaps not quite the improvement that cements foldables as the replacements for actual smartphones. In essence, this is good, but it could be better. The cameras are better, but they still lack the sparkle of the S-series. The handset is lighter but still feels unwieldy to hold. And, charging speeds are nowhere near speedy enough. These aren’t necessarily deal breakers, but they should definitely be considered when parting with almost £1,500. The Galaxy Z Fold 4 might be the best foldable around, but it's still not even the best smartphone Samsung has to offer.

Even though both smartphones are iterative updates over their respective predecessors, the upgraded cameras and newer SoC does make them more competitive and might help justify the premium pricing. For the Galaxy Z Fold 4, the lower weight should make a difference in prolonged use, however that might be moot if you plan on using a case with it. The Galaxy Z Flip 4's larger battery should address the biggest gripe we had with its predecessor. We'll be bringing you full reviews of both these smartphones closer to their India launches, so do stay tuned.

The Samsung Galaxy Z Fold4 and Galaxy Z Flip4 are the best foldables around, but more importantly, they are great phones on their own. You could argue that some of their rivals are better in one way or another, but the reality is that there isn't a more daily-driver-ready foldable out there, nor one as readily available as Samsung's Z series. And now in their fourth generation, the Galaxy Z series is that much better in the most important ways. Making the cameras better was long overdue and Samsung did it. We hoped for an autofocusing ultrawide camera, but the reality is that most people wouldn't notice a difference. We could also wish for a periscope zoom on the Galaxy Z Fold4, but that would put the Galaxy S22 Ultra in too much danger, and once again, most people probably wouldn't notice or at least care as much. Samsung made the folding phone a few years ago and now it's making it as good as the regular one, one step at a time. Last year we got durability and the S Pen, this year we got better cameras and small refinements that go a long way in the course of 12 months of using a phone.

That’s about all there is to cover with the Galaxy Z Fold 4. There’s not much to talk about, with the 2022 model coming across as more of an inter-generational upgrade than a substantial leap forward. However, since the previous Fold 3 was the first foldable to go properly mainstream, I don’t think that’s necessarily a bad thing. The IPX8 waterproofing remains a big bonus, and the design, despite the imitations coming thick and fast from other manufacturers, still can’t be matched. Last year’s phone set the formula, and this year’s model is simply cementing things with a handful of minor quality of life improvements – all of which makes the phone more well-rounded than ever.

Qualcomm Adreno 730:
