RedMagic 8 Pro Titanium è il massimo che si possa trovare tra i gaming phone al di sotto dei 1.000 euro. Nonostante il prezzo di 799 euro rimanga elevato (anche se il modello base parte da 649 euro), si tratta di uno smartphone in grado di collocarsi ai vertici del mercato sotto più punti di vista, a partire dalle eccellenti prestazioni offerte dal SoC Snapdragon 8 Gen 2, fino ad arrivare all'ottima autonomia garantita dall'ampia batteria da 6.000 mAh e dalla ricarica a 65W. La qualità costruttiva è eccellente e il retro trasparente può fare gola a un ampio numero di appassionati (con tanto di ventola RGB e LED). RedMagic 8 Pro offre anche un eccellente display AMOLED con refresh rate di 120Hz, nonché un comparto audio d'eccezione e un comparto connettività completo di 5G e Wi-Fi 7. Questo smartphone ci ha stregati sotto più punti di vista, dai trigger alle novità software in ambito gaming. Proprio il software rimane però uno dei suoi punti deboli: si nota l'impegno profuso da RedMagic, ma non si tratta ancora di un'esperienza pulita e in linea con gran parte dei competitor, traduzione inclusa. L'altro aspetto che non ci ha convinto del tutto è il comparto fotografico, che non riesce a raggiungere le vette toccate altrove, soprattutto quando si guarda alla fotocamera posta sotto al display. Questo si aggiunge alla mancanza della ricarica wireless, all'assenza della certificazione IP e all'impossibilità di espandere la memoria interna, aspetti che vengono però messi in secondo piano dal prezzo aggressivo per il mercato degli smartphone da gaming attuale. RedMagic ha comunque fatto centro e ci ha fatto adorare RedMagic 8 Pro Titanium: in un periodo in cui i prezzi sono in ascesa, lui può sicuramente fare gola.

Si tratta di un ottimo smartphone da gaming, capace di rispondere colpo su colpo ai nostri tentativi di metterlo in difficoltà ed è più che valido anche per le operazioni “tradizionali”, il day-by-day di ciascuno di noi. Se a tutto ciò aggiungiamo un prezzo perfettamente in linea con il mercato generalista, ci rendiamo conto che questo smartphone ha davvero la forza di conquistare tutti, non solo gli appassionati di gaming più hardcore.

Per chi è alla ricerca di un nuovo gaming phone, REDMAGIC 8 Pro può certamente rappresentare un'ottima scelta: monta il SoC più avanzato attualmente in circolazione, ha display e batteria performanti e parecchie caratteristiche che potrebbero incontrare il favore dei giocatori più esigenti, il tutto con un design più centrato rispetto al passato e ad un prezzo davvero interessante se messo a confronto con la concorrenza. Va detto che il passo in avanti tecnologico rispetto ai competitor più prossimi (e allo stesso REDMAGIC 7 Pro) non è proprio enorme, e Nubia fatica a scrollarsi di dosso difetti ormai congeniti legati principalmente alle fotocamere e al software: fattori che hanno il loro peso nella valutazione di REDMAGIC 8 Pro, specialmente se si proviene da uno smartphone di fascia alta di produzione relativamente recente.

Il prezzo ribassato è poi la chiave di questo prodotto, che è anche il primo ad arrivare con il nuovo processore Qualcomm. Non è però per tutti, soprattutto per un kit di fotocamere non dei più brillanti.

Chiudiamo la recensione di REDMAGIC 8 Pro con qualche riflessione sull’utilizzo dello smartphone anche al di fuori del contesto di gaming, dove, lo ribadiamo, attualmente è tra le migliori soluzioni possibili e senza dubbio quella più avanzata dal punto di vista tecnico. Chi vi scrive non è un incallito giocatore e per questo ha apprezzato alcune qualità secondarie del dispositivo, come la grande affidabilità e capacità del comparto di connettività. Il design funziona, le prestazioni sono una vera goduria e l’autonomia è merce rara se non unica nel panorama Android di fascia alta. Peccato per il modesto comparto fotografico, sarebbe stata la ciliegina sulla torta, ma d’altra parte si tratta di un prodotto pensato da cima a fondo per giocare. Insomma, se seguite il mondo degli smartphone, non disdegnate qualche minuto di gioco e non volete scendere a compromessi sull’autonomia, allora fateci un pensierino!

The front camera could also use some work, but I believe it’s an acceptable sacrifice in exchange for a seamless screen.

The Nubia RedMagic 8 Pro’s excellent global battery score places the device among the Top 10 in our database and in the top spot for its segment. The device outperformed its predecessor, the Nubia RedMagic 7 Pro, because of better autonomy and efficiency, thanks mainly to a larger battery. The Nubia RedMagic 8 Pro’s autonomy lasted 2.5 days in our tests when used moderately. It had an especially good performance when in idle with screen on, which provided excellent autonomy in most test cases, particularly when gaming or streaming videos. On-the-go autonomy was also very good when using the camera or the navigation, two use cases that usually demand a lot of power. Equipped with a 65W charger, the device’s charging experience was excellent. Charging the battery from empty to full took less than 47 minutes, and a quick 5-minute charge provided more than 7 hours of autonomy. The 65W charger’s use of a new charging protocol that slows down the time to fully replenish the 6000 mAh battery should help preserve the life and performance of the device’s battery. Adapter efficiency was the best we ever measured, and the overall charge efficiency was also outstanding. However, the residual power drain of the charger was a bit high and above the average of our database. Finally, the discharge currents were low when streaming video or idling with screen on, meaning that the device was optimized for these test cases. In contrast, the discharge currents were a bit high when the phone was idle with the screen off, which is the main state of devices most of the day. Compared with devices from the Premium segment ($600-$799), the Nubia RedMagic 8 Pro ranked in the first place of our database, achieving the best autonomy score for this segment. The charging experience was also excellent, but the efficiency score was only average compared with device from the same price range.

For its price, the Redmagic 8 Pro offers unbeatable gaming performance. The Matte version, which starts at $649, is a phenomenal price for what you receive, but this low price comes with caveats. Plus, the Game Space software is a pleasure to use for everyone from streamers to casual gamers. Despite its shortcomings, the Redmagic 8 Pro is easily one of the best gaming phones to date, and $649 is an excellent price for it.

Nubia RedMagic 8 Pro review: Sharp and speedy

The RedMagic 8 Pro is an excellent gaming phone, and if you're looking for the ultimate in performance, this is currently the top dog. The cooling solution works well and the software adds some useful and novel touches to the gaming experience. We like the new shape, too, the sharper edges make the large uninterrupted display look more impressive than ever. This luxurious display comes at the cost of a decent selfie shooter, though, and we'd prefer a traditional camera in a small bezel, rather than an under-display camera that offers such poor results. The software, in its current state, is too buggy for our liking. Though, as we mentioned, we're sure this will improve dramatically as the updates start to roll out. You may wish to wait for bugs to be ironed out before taking the plunge. As usual, the RedMagic 8 Pro is all about performance, and on that front, it leaves little to be desired.

There is a lot to like about the nubia Red Magic 8 Pro. It offers the latest and greatest Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 chipset alongside fast UFS 4.0 storage, which translates to an amazingly smooth experience no matter what you task the phone with. Of course, gaming is the bread and butter of the Red Magic line, and the Red Magic 8 Pro excels at it like few others. Not only does it have the raw power to chew through even the heaviest modern titles, but nubia's extra Game Space software layer has gotten better than ever. We found ourselves particularly impressed with how well the Red Magic 8 Pro handles gaming on an external monitor via a display connection or through the excellent Windows game streaming software, both wired and wireless. If excellence in gaming is all you are after, then we have no issue wholeheartedly recommending the Red Magic 8 Pro. However, as a complete all-around package, it still has some rough edges that are hard to ignore. For instance, despite performing quite admirably, its display is not really on par with the industry's current high-end panels. And while we can live perfectly fine with a 120Hz refresh rate in practice, the lack of things like HDR video support and LTPO are a bit tougher to swallow. Sure, both are "nice to haves" rather than truly essential, but it's these kinds of things that ultimately add up to a great overall smartphone experience. The same goes for the camera. We definitely appreciate the upgrades to the main snapper. Those are evident. But the rest of the camera experience on the Red Magic 8 Pro tends to be lackluster and lacking in both features and performance. And last but definitely not least, as smooth and feature-rich as it is, Redmagic OS is still a half-translated mess more often than not. Even after the latest Redmagic OS 6 update running on the Red Magic 8 Pro, the state in which a lot of text, menus and options appear in the UI is very poor. Nubia has had plenty of time to address this issue, as we've reported on it for years now, but obviously, the company is not interested in perfecting that aspect for its Western audience. All of this ultimately makes the Red Magic 8 Pro an amazing Android gaming device, and a somewhat compromised Android smartphone.
