Considerando il prezzo di vendita di 499 €, Nothing Phone (3a) Pro rappresenta senza dubbio un’offerta estremamente aggressiva. Certo, il design potrebbe non piacere a tutti, ma è difficile trovare un dispositivo che offra una combinazione così equilibrata di performance, autonomia eccezionale e originalità estetica. Il software, fresco e intuitivo, è un valore aggiunto che rende l’esperienza quotidiana estremamente piacevole. Non siamo di fronte al top assoluto per la fotografia, ma considerando il prezzo proposto, si tratta di un compromesso più che accettabile. Insomma, se cercate uno smartphone che sappia distinguersi dalla massa senza sacrificare prestazioni e affidabilità, il Nothing Phone (3a) Pro potrebbe essere proprio ciò che fa per voi.

Nothing (3a) Pro però, in attesa dei nuovi Motorola Edge 60 e Pixel 9A ha il vantaggio di essere l'unico smartphone su questa fascia di prezzo ad offrire un fantastico software, tendenzialmente simile ad Android Stock, associato ad un buon hardware. I telefoni citati poco sopra hanno infatti interfacce grafiche personalizzate che possono sì offrire tante feature ma anche essere più lente e alla lunga creare noie. Questo ad esempio lo abbiamo evidenziato nella recensione del Realme 14 Pro+, dove per l'appunto tale smartphone con il 7S Gen 3 era abbastanza "gommoso", mentre questi Nothing (3a) sembrano girare come dei top di gamma.

Il Nothing Phone (3a) parte da €349 per la versione 8/128GB e arriva a €399 per la 12/256GB (quella provata per questa recensione). Il Phone (3a) Pro è disponibile a €479 nella versione 12/256GB. I preordini sono partiti il 4 marzo per il modello base (e potete ricevere gratis un caricabatterie da 45W), ,mentre partono l’11 per il Pro. A questi prezzi, di solito, bisogna scendere a compromessi. Nothing Phone (3a) e 3a Pro non lo fanno. Hanno un comparto hardware completo (manca solo la ricarica wireless), con buone fotocamere per il prezzo, e un software ottimizzato ed esteticamente valido. E poi sono originali, ben pensati. Il design non è forse per tutti, ma noi l’apprezziamo — se proprio non piace ci sono le cover, anche se nascondere la fotocamera del Pro non sarà facile.

Il prezzo di 479 euro per l'unica versione 12/256GB lo trovo ottimo perché non ha nulla che non va, anzi, è equilibrato e tutto gira bene. Il software è uno dei miei preferiti, gli manca solo la cancellazione di cose e persone nelle foto e poi è davvero completo e c'è la genialata dell' Essential Spaces. A questo punto viste le differenze minime vedremo se il Phone (3a) a 349 euro sarà un best buy!

Le caratteristiche dei due telefoni raccontate nella recensione devono essere messe sul piatto dei prezzi che, in considerazione di tutto quanto osservato, risultano ottimi. I listini italiani di Nothing sono di 349 euro per Phone (3a) da 8GB+128GB e 399 euro per il 12GB+256GB. Il taglio del Phone (3a) Pro è invece uno solo: 12GB RAM+256GB a 479 euro. Noi abbiamo provato il (3a) e il (3a) Pro da 12+256GB. I due telefoni si presentano con un’identità che è sempre più definita ma che, proprio per questo motivo, “deve” piacere per suscitare interesse. Quest’anno lo scoglio più grande potrebbe essere l’oblò del Phone (3a) Pro che è davvero molto grande, ma che contiene anche la tele 3x periscopica: vera anima distintiva del telefono, e che ha anche ottime capacità.

Nothing Phone (3a) e (3a) Pro rappresentano un deciso miglioramento sotto tanti punti di vista rispetto al modello precedente: la qualità costruttiva e la resistenza IP, lo schermo più luminoso, la componente fotografica che si arricchisce del teleobiettivo e che sul modello Pro è ancora più raffinata. Apprezzabile poi sia il carattere distintivo dell'interfaccia e della sua estetica, sia la funzione Essential Space che merita perlomeno di essere provata. Dove resta un po' l'amaro in bocca è nella scelta di un SoC non particolarmente potente, con prestazioni per molti versi assimilabili a quelle dell'anno scorso.

The 6x zoomed photos look good and offer a similar image quality to the other cameras on the device. Honestly, the Nothing Phone (3a) series cameras take good shots, and I’d even be happy if the Nothing Phone (3) had similar shooters. Except, I hope it doesn’t have that same ugly camera module and looks more similar to the Nothing Phone (2) or the Nothing Phone (3a.) I like the Nothing Phone (3a) series.

My initial feeling about these handsets is that they could have just been one phone. There aren’t many significant differences between them and while I have high hopes for the (3a) Pro’s periscope telephoto camera, I don’t think it will be impressive enough to justify the extra £70 to £120 in price. That’s a question to be settled when I come to the full reviews, however. For now, it’s clear that the Phone (3a) series makes several exciting improvements to last year’s models. The displays are bigger and brighter, both models get a new telephoto camera and the simplified approach to AI looks genuinely useful. I’ll have a lot more to say on the Nothing Phone (3a) and Phone (3a) Pro in the coming weeks – including which of them I feel is most worth your time – but for now, I feel confident that Nothing has at least one more bargain mid-range phone on its hands.

The big caveat here is that like previous generations of the Nothing phone, the Nothing Phone (3a) and (3a) Pro are not optimized for the U.S. market. However, that also means there's a small hoop to jump through in order to buy the phone — you need to enroll in Nothing's Beta program to qualify. It's not hard and it's free, but it's still an extra step. The Nothing Phone (3a) Pro will be available to purchase in the U.S. in only the 12GB of RAM and 256GB of storage configuration in the grey and black colorways. The phone will cost $459.

The Nothing Phone (3a) Pro is an interesting phone. It has a very bold look, it's quirky and undisputedly unique. Its performance is OK, it's fine. Actually kind of fun, with small but meaningful Nothing modifications. For the bad part — its camera is not great. There's the Pixel 8a, only $40 more, with the better camera and more updates directly from Google. Not to mention, a newer Pixel 9a should be announced any moment now.

It’s a little ironic that a phone with flashing lights and see-through styling doesn’t do enough to stand out from its baby brother. If you rarely reach for the zoom button, I can’t see why you’d skip the standard Phone 3a for this: it’s on par everywhere else, has less divisive looks, and costs a whole lot less. There’s no denying you’re getting the superior telephoto snapper here, though. Add in the very capable lead lens and the Phone 3a Pro can compete comfortably with the upper echelons of mid-range cameraphones. Personally, that makes it the one I’d pick of the pair. Performance and battery life are also what you’d expect for the cash, while Nothing’s spin on Android remains a joy to use – even if the Essential Space doesn’t truly feel essential just yet.

In particular, the provision of a dedicated 3x periscope camera isn’t something we see too often south of £500. It could use some fleshing out, but we’re interested to see where it goes. Nothing’s software is as sharp and stylish as ever, and its hardware makes a statement that no other affordable brand can match.

The new Nothing Phone (3a) and (3a) Pro don't stray too much from the established Nothing formula, yet they remain quite uniquely positioned on the market, even based on looks alone. Adding a third telephoto camera in this generation is a nice touch. The Pro is clearly the way to go if the telephoto is a big priority for you, but for many, the 2x on the vanilla will suffice just fine. As for the rest of the devices, there is pretty much perfect convergence. Both use the same display, which we found to be excellent in person, and both rely on the Snapdragon 7s Gen 3, which, while not a flagship chip, has plenty of performance to throw around. Though far from industry-leading, the three-year software support promise is also decent enough.

After the odd Nothing Phone 2a Plus release, Nothing is straight back to the top of its game with the Nothing Phone 3a Pro. I used it as my main smartphone the week leading up to MWC 2025, and also while I’ve been in Barcelona for the show, and it hasn’t put a foot wrong. It has been reliable to use and taken some great photos, but most of all it has been fun. The Phone 3a Pro is one of the few smartphones to put a smile on my face, whether it’s through the out-there design, the silly sound effects, the flash of the Glyph Lights, the pedometer widget, or the really cool black and white filter for the camera. Even the filter switcher in the camera app looks unique, and I adore Nothing’s attention to detail throughout the software and the phone’s design. It separates it from other phones at a similar price. The Nothing Phone 3a Pro is superb, and I wholeheartedly recommend you buy it.

After initial stages of testing, I'm generally impressed by the Nothing Phone (3a) Pro. It's a savvily positioned product, when you consider it has a massive periscope zoom camera – yet costs less than Samsung's Galaxy A56, far less than Apple's iPhone 16e, and when Google inevitably announces a Pixel 9a I suspect that will cost more too. It's not all roses, though, as the processor and software does show some signs of weakness – in beta there's no Google Wallet payments; there's also some minor stutters when loading some apps – and the price jump from the base Phone (3a) to the Pro is significant.

If you’re looking beyond Android’s mid-range usual suspects like the Pixel 8a, then the Nothing Phone (3a) Pro should certainly be on your short list. It’s not the most powerful option around, but you might not care if you’d make the most of that 3x optical zoom telephoto lens. Nothing Phone’s unique features, such as the transparent design, Glyph interface, and Essential Space, come down to personal taste. It’s too early to really consider Essential Space all that essential or useful, but those rear Glyph notifications might really come in handy for some people.
