Peccato per alcune debolezze che lo rendono meno interessante di altri smartphone allo stesso prezzo. Da considerare con qualche offerta futura.

Recensione Nokia XR20: punta tutto sulla resistenza

Nokia XR20 è un dispositivo valido ma non esente da difetti, anche gravi. Il primo su tutti per l’azienda è stato fissare un prezzo di partenza di 450 euro nella sua versione base che diventano quasi 600 per la versione con 6 GB di RAM. Non si tratta di un prezzo per tutti e che in relazione a un hardware discutibile, una resistenza così così ed una fotocamera da dimenticare ci sembrano decisamente esagerati. Il suo posizionamento ideale sarebbe stato circa 100 euro di meno e questo avrebbe senz’altro invogliato tutti coloro che necessitano di uno smartphone di questo tipo all’acquisto. Non bisogna mai perdere di vista il target di un dispositivo di questo tipo, il lavoratore o l’escursionista che sicuramente non vogliono spendere troppo in caso di rottura o di perdita. Peccato perchè ancora una volta il produttore ha perso l’opportunità di distinguersi rispetto ai suoi competitor ed eccellere come in passato ci ha abituato.

Manufacturers developing ruggedized phones have fallen into a trap of creating something that looks military. Nokia has avoided this, adding nothing more than slightly thicker corners and a useful texture grip on the back of the XR20. But this is a big phone, following an industry trend towards suitability for the Goliath-handed among us at the expense of all other practical concerns. One possible consequence is that it could be slightly too large to use with a gimbal. My Hohem iSteady V2 struggles to maintain a consistent grip on the Nokia XR20. This is in part due to the width of the phone, as well as the depth. While the camera is good, this is not a fast phone, with performance far below the latest Samsung and Sony phones. However, it has a price to match that reduced performance and remains faster than any of the phones I’ve used recently.

HMD Global dialed in a good mixture of features and performance in the Nokia XR20, though it is not without its faults. The basic design is solid, with appealing looks and capable hardware. It can take a tumble, has a dual SIM slot and solid connectivity, and good battery life. While you may not be able to play some games or take flagship-quality photos, it's good enough for basic tasks and phone calls. For everyone else, our Editors' Choice winner, the $449 Google Pixel 5a With 5G, is a better choice. It performs like a champ, has excellent cameras, and will get software updates even faster than the Nokia XR20.
