L'Intel Pentium 5405U è un SoC dual-core ULV (ultra low voltage) basato sull'architettura Whiskey-Lake ed è stato lanciato nel gennaio 2019. La CPU si trova sia negli ultrabook che nei normali notebook. Oltre a due core di CPU con clock Hyper-Threading a 2,3 GHz (senza Turbo Boost), il chip integra anche una GPU HD Graphics 610 e un controller di memoria a doppio canale DDR4-2133/DDR3L-1600. Il SoC è prodotto utilizzando un processo a 14 nm con transistor FinFET (14nm++).
Intel utilizza fondamentalmente la stessa microarchitettura rispetto a Skylake, quindi le prestazioni per-MHz non differiscono. Il produttore ha solo rielaborato la tecnologia Speed Shift per una più rapida regolazione dinamica delle tensioni e degli orologi, e il processo migliorato a 14nm permette frequenze molto più alte combinate con una migliore efficienza rispetto a prima. Rispetto a Kaby-Lake Refresh, Whiskey Lake presenta solo un processo leggermente migliorato da 14nm+ a 14nm++.
Rispetto al più vecchio Pentium Gold 4415U con le stesse velocità di clock, le prestazioni dovrebbero essere abbastanza simili e quindi nell'entry level. Tuttavia, la CPU ha una potenza sufficiente per l'ufficio e le applicazioni multimediali, nonché per applicazioni un po' più impegnative. La versione da 12,5 Watt funziona a soli 800 MHz ed è quindi notevolmente più lenta.
L'unità grafica integrata denominata HD Graphics 610 (simile all'HD Graphics 510) rappresenta la versione "GT1" della GPU Whiskey Lake (Intel Gen. 9). Le sue 12 unità di esecuzione, chiamate anche EU, sono clockate a 300 - 950 MHz e offrono prestazioni leggermente inferiori alle vecchie HD Graphics 4400. Solo pochi giochi del 2018 possono essere giocati senza problemi nelle impostazioni più basse.
Specificata a un TDP di 15 W (inclusi CPU, GPU e controller di memoria), la CPU è la più adatta per notebook e ultrabook di piccole dimensioni (11 pollici e oltre). Opzionalmente, il TDP può essere abbassato a 12,5 watt (cTDP down), riducendo sia la dissipazione del calore che le prestazioni (solo su 800 MHz) e consentendo progetti ancora più compatti.
