Intel 4500U

L'Intel Core i7-4500U è un processore dual-core ULV (ultra low voltage) per ultrabooks presentato nel secondo quadrimestre 2013. Si basa sull'architettura Haswell ed è realizzato in 22nm. Grazie all'Hyperthreading, i due cores possono gestire fino ad quattro threads in parallelo, con un conseguente miglior utilizzo della CPU. Ogni core ha una velocità base di 1.8 GHz, ma può effettuare un incremento dinamico del clock rate con il Turbo Boost fino a 3.0 GHz (per 1 core attivo) or 2.7 GHz (per 2 cores attivi).

Haswell è il successore dell'architettura Ivy Bridge con miglioramenti delle prestazioni sia GPU che CPU. Le CPUs sono realizzate in 22nm ed offrono una branch prediction ottimizzata e porte di esecuzione aggiuntive, migliorando specialmente le prestazioni Hyper-Threading. Inoltre, nuove features come AVX2 ed FMA dovrebbero incrementare le prestazioni nelle applicazioni future.

Le prestazioni del Core i7-4500U sono simili a quelle del vecchio Core i7-3537U che aveva un clock leggermente superiore. Tuttavia, quando si utilizzano le nuove istruzioni come AVX2 le prestazioni possono essere significativamente migliori. Pertanto, la CPU ha potenza sufficiente per applicazioni da ufficio e multimedia così come per le applicazioni più impegnative.

La HD Graphics 4400 integrata offre 20 Execution Units (EUs) con un clock da 200 - 1100 MHz (con Turbo Boost), che la rendono leggermente più veloce rispetto alla precedente HD Graphics 4000. Tuttavia, la HD 4400 è molto più lenta rispetto alla HD 5000 degli altri modelli ULV.

L'i7-4500U ha un TDP di 15 W che include scheda grafica, controller di memoria VRMs e chipset integrato. Di conseguenza la GPU è adatta per piccoli ultrabooks da 11 pollici o superiori.
