Intel i5-7440HQ

L'Intel Core i5-7440HQ è un processore quad-core per notebooks basato sull'architettura Kaby Lake ed annunciato a Gennaio 2017. Rispetto ai più veloci modelli Core i7, il Core i5 non supporta l'Hyper Threading ed ha clocks più bassi. I CPU cores girano a 2.8 - 3.8 GHz (4 cores fino a 3.4, 2 cores fino a 3.6 GHz). Il processore monta anche una GPU HD Graphics 630 ed un controller di memoria dual-channel (DDR3L-1600/DDR4-2400). E' realizzato con processo da 14nm con transistors FinFET.

Architettura

Intel di base utilizza la stessa micro architettura rispetto alla Skylake, quindi le prestazioni per-MHz non differiscono. Il produttore ha solo rielaborato la tecnologia Speed Shift per una regolazione dinamica più veloce dei voltaggi e dei clocks, ed il migliorato processo 14nm consente frequenze maggiori unitamente ad una migliore efficienza rispetto al passato.

Performance

Grazie alla velocità clock superiore, le performance dell'i5-7440HQ sono nettamente più veloci rispetto al vecchio Core i5-6440HQ da 2.6 - 3.5 GHz. Le performance pertanto sono sufficienti anche per applicazioni pesanti.

Grafica

L'Intel HD Graphics 630 integrata ha 4 Execution Units (come la precedente HD Graphics 530) gira a 350 - 1000 MHz (i modelli i7 fino a 1100). Le performance dipendono molto dalla configurazione della memoria; dovrebbero essere paragonabili ad una Nvidia GeForce 920M dedicata unitamente ad una veloce memoria DDR4-2133 dual-channel.

Diversamente dalla Skylake, la Kaby Lake ora supporta il decoding hardware per l'H.265/HEVC Main 10 con una profondità del colore da 10-bit oltre al codec Google VP9. I processori dual-core Kaby Lake, che sono stati annunciati a Gennaio, dovrebbero supportare anche l'HDCP 2.2.

Consumo Energetico

Il chip è realizzato con un processo in 14nm migliorato e con transistors FinFET, che migliora ulteriormente l'efficienza. Intel specifica ancora un TDP da 45 Watts, ma può anche essere ridotto a 35 Watts dai produttori di portatili (cTDP down). Questo ovviamente impatta sulle performance, in quanto il Turbo Boost non può essere mantenuto per periodi lunghi.
