Intel 6440HQ

L'Intel Core i5-6440HQ è un processore quad-core basato sull'architettura Skylake, lanciato a Settembre 2015. In aggiunta ai quattro CPU cores (no Hyper-Threading support) con clock da 2.6 - 3.5 GHz (4 cores: max. 3.1 GHz, 2 cores: max. 3.3 GHz), il chip integra anche una HD Graphics 530 GPU ed un controller di memoria dual-channel DDR4-2133/DDR3L-1600. La CPU è realizzata con processo da 14 nm e con transistors FinFET.

Architettura

La Skylake sostituisce sia l'Haswell che la Broadwell ed introduce la stessa microarchitettura in ogni classe di TDP da 4.5 a 45 W. I molti miglioramenti del design Skylake includono l'incremento di buffers out-of-order, l'ottimizzazione del prefetching e branch prediction oltre ad un ulteriore guadagno di prestazioni tramite Hyper-Threading. Nel complesso, tuttavia, le prestazioni per clock sono aumentate solo del 5 - 10 percento (rispetto all'Haswell) o sotto il 5 percento (rispetto alla Broadwell), un risultato piuttosto modesto per una nuova architettura ("Tock").

Performance

Con fino a 4 threads sotto carico, il Core i5-6440HQ ha prestazioni quasi alla pari con il Core i7-6700HQ o il Core i7-4720HQ (Haswell). Tuttavia, il Core i7 beneficia dell'Hyper-Threading (fino al 25 - 30 percento di aumento delle performance) con software di parallelizzazione estrema, mentre il Core i5 non supporta questa feature.

Tuttavia, anche le applicazioni più pesanti ed il multitasking eccessivo sono gestite facilmente.

Grafica

L'unità grafica integrata chiamata HD Graphics 530 rappresenta la versione "GT2" della GPU Skylake (Intel Gen. 9). Le 24 Execution Units, chiamate anche EUs, hanno un clock tra 350 - 950 MHz ed offrono prestazioni di circa il 20 percento superiori alla vecchia HD Graphics 4600. Consumo Energetico

Con un TDP da 45 W (inclusi CPU, GPU e controller memoria), la CPU è più adatta per portatili più grandi a partire da 15". Opzionalmente, il TDP può essere abbassato a 35 watts (cTDP down), riducendo sia la dissipazione del calore che le performance.
