Intel Core i5-2557M

L'Intel Core i5-2557M è un processore ULV (Ultra Low Voltage) a risparmio energetico per portatili sottili e leggeri. La frequenza base di 1.7 GHz è relativamente bassa, ma grazie al Turbo Boost 2.0, la CPU può portare il clock fino a 2.7 GHz (carico di un core, 2.4 GHz con carico su due cores). Tuttavia, questo dipende dal raffreddamento e dal consumo energetico del portatile. Grazie all'HyperThreading, la i5-2557M è in grado di gestire 4 threads in parallelo. Rispetto alla più lenta Core i7-2657M, la i5 offre meno cache ma una velocità base del clock superiore ed un turbo boost grafico più elevato.

Il Sandy Bridge è il successore evoluto dell'architettura Arrandale. I miglioramenti principali sono l'implementazione del Turbo 2.0 e l'integrazione della scheda grafica sul core della CPU da 32nm.

L'Intel HD Graphics 3000 integrata ha un clock da 350 a 1200MHz (Turbo Boost). A causa del lento valore clock senza Turbo, rispetto alla HD Graphics 3000 di processori da 35W e 45W (di solito con clock da 650-1100/1300MHz di velocità base per i processori non ULV), le prestazioni dovrebbero essere notevolmente inferiori.

Le prestazioni della CPU dovrebbero essere leggermente superiori rispetto ad una Arrandale Core i5 con clock simile. Nei nostri benchmarks (guardate di seguito), il simile processore ULV 2657M è stato veloce quanto un Core i3-2310M grazie all'elevata frequenza del Turbo Boost. Tuttavia, il raffreddamento del portatile deve mantenere il processore relativamente fresco per far lavorare frequentemente il Turbo Boost.

Il TDP da 17W (include la GPU integrata ed il controller di memoria) consente l'utilizzo della CPU 2657M nei piccoli subnotebooks.
