Intel Atom Z540

L'Intel Atom Z540 è un processore single-core per netbook / MID a risparmio energetico. Rispetto all'Atom N270, lo Z540 supporta la Virtualizzazione hardware ed ha le funzioni di risparmio energetico per lo stato Idle e lo Switching in base al tipo di utilizzo. Inoltre, lo Z540 ha un clocksuperiore ma un TDP inferiore.

L'Atom core è stato progettato per ridurre i consumi ed i costi di produzione. Il lato negativo sono le prestazioni per Watt relativamente basse (a causa dell'esecuzione sequenziale) rispetto ai processori Celeron con clock simile, i.e.. l'Hyper-Threading integrato (il sistema operativo vede la CPU come una CPU dual core) riduce leggermente lo svantaggio della esecuzione sequenziale.

Le prestazioni della Z540 sono paragonabili solo ad un Celeron M con un clock da 1.3 GHz e di conseguenza sufficienti solo per applicazioni non pesanti come lavoro da ufficio e navigazione web. I videos HD, l'editing di immagini, l'editing video possono non essere fluidi.
