Intel Atom Z2580
L'Intel Atom Z2580 è un SoC (System on a Chip) con nome in codice Penwell e fa parte della piattaforma Medfield. Lo Z2580 è un SoC one chip ed integra un processore dual core Atom (Saltwell) con clock da 1.3 - 2 GHz. Grazie all'Hyper-Threading, possono essere eseguiti 4 threads sui due cores (per una maggiore efficienza). Il core CPU Saltwell è ancora molto simile al primo Intel Atom. Pertanto, le prestazioni per clock dovrebbero essere molto simili (con minimi miglioramenti). Tuttavia, la CPU ora sfrutta anche una low-power-cache da 256 KB (con un piano di voltaggio separato) per consentire alla CPU ed alla L2 cache di andare in stato di consumo ridotto. Inoltre, l'Atom ora supporta una sorta di Turbo Boost e riesce a raggiungere i 2 GHz (frequenza base 1.3 GHz). Inoltre, il core CPU può effettuare il downclock a 100 MHz (con steps di 100 MHz) per risparmiare energia. Le prestazioni del processore dovrebbero essere al livello della precedente generazione di processori Atom con clock da 1.3 - 1.8 GHz (i.e., l'Atom N550 con clock da 1.5 GHz). Pertanto, lo Z2580 dovrebbe essere uno dei SoCs per smartphone/tablet più veloce sul mercato. La scheda grafica integrata si basa sul design PowerVR SGX 544MP2 ed ha un clock da 400 MHz. Il decoder video (MPEG4.2, H.264, VC1, WMV) e l'encoder (MPEG4.2, H.264) derivano dall'Imagination Technologies (VDX385 and VDE285) e dovrebbero consentire la de-codifica di video a 1080p30. Inoltre, è integrato un controller di memoria dual channel LPDDR2 (2x 32 Bit) per un massimo di 1GB di RAM. L'intero SoC è stato ottimizzato per l'efficienza energetica e per la riduzione dei consumi. E' realizzato in 32nm LP (low power) ed ha un TDP di 3 Watt (secondo TechPowerUp).
