Huawei MateBook X Pro è uno di quei (rari) notebook che è davvero un piacere usare. Solido, relativamente leggero, con una tastiera ed un touchpad tra i migliori del mercato, ed un luminoso schermo in 3:2, che è ideale per lavorare. L'instant-on ed il preciso lettore di impronte digitali sono due piacevoli aggiunte che ve lo faranno aprire e chiudere senza pensieri, sicuri che sarà subito pronto ai vostri comandi non appena riaprirete lo schermo. L'unico rammarico è che provi ad essere più potente di quanto non possa essere, con un hardware top che non solo non viene sfruttato a pieno, ma fa ovviamente lievitare anche il prezzo.

L'unico rammarico è che provi ad essere più potente di quanto non possa essere, con un hardware top che non solo non viene sfruttato a pieno, ma fa ovviamente lievitare anche il prezzo.

Sono prezzi alti, non c'è dubbio, ma ci sono almeno un paio di considerazioni da fare. La prima riguarda il prezzo dei prodotti della concorrenza che, a parità di configurazioni, è comunque allineato a quello di MateBook X Pro. La seconda è invece relativa allo street price: vi basti pensare che dopo nemmeno 24 ore dal lancio il modello con Core i7 è già in promo con 200 euro di sconto su tutti i retail. Questa mattina Amazon ci ha poi sorpreso con un ribasso di ulteriori 100 euro che lo posizionano a 1699 euro, un prezzo a cui probabilmente tornerà spesso nel corso dei prossimi mesi.

Non è poco e ne siamo consapevoli, ma se avete un budget più generoso e fate già parte del mondo Huawei (perché possedete uno smartphone o un tablet), Huawei Matebook X Pro 2020 sarà perfetto ed un investimento a lungo termine, grazie alle sue prestazioni eccezionali. L'edizione 2020 del Huawei Matebook X Pro 2020 non cambia molto rispetto al passato, ma un refresh delle specifiche e, speriamo prossimamente in Italia anche la nuova finitura verde (che noi amiamo), sono sufficienti per prendere in considerazione il notebook.

A terrible webcam and a reflective display are the main factors holding it back from challenging the Dell XPS, but it's still a great value option for the likes of students and office workers.

I can’t shake the feeling that this anglicised version of an existing Chinese model has been rushed out to maximise Huawei’s commercial opportunities around the recent Super Device announcement at MWC 2022. I don’t blame it for that, but my advice is to wait for the next Huawei MateBook X Pro (with 12th gen Intel silicon). If that has the same display and speaker system as this model it will be a laptop I’ll crawl over broken glass to get my hands on.

With its combination of specs, the X Pro has more of a business focus and perhaps save for the battery life will make an excellent companion for the office or travelling. I’d still like a USB-A port, but the X Pro has a long list of excellent features almost everywhere you look. Whether it’s the larger screen with excellent colour performance and 90Hz refresh rate, the top-notch keyboard and trackpad, repositioned webcam, great core specs, or the speedy charging. It’s an almost perfect balance for productivity and it’s also great for a range of other tasks including entertainment. The lack of a dedicated graphics card may put some users off – but really only those needing large amounts of grunt for work like video editing. It can still handle that, as well as gaming, if you curb your expectations compared to more powerful rivals.

Finally, there’s an innovation called Huawei Free Touch, which allows what the company calls “Creative Gestures” from the laptop’s touchpad. Think video scrubbing with a swipe from left to right, volume reductions with a swipe down and screenshots via a quick double-tap. How well they work in practice remains to be seen and it could be a forgettable gimmick, but from past Huawei MateBook Pro X models we know that the company makes an excellent laptop in all other respects. If the internals are up to the usual high standards, this should be another winner, assuming the company hasn't upped the cost considerably from its usual £1,599 price point.
