For anyone that is looking to get a thin and lightweight 15-inch laptop, it is going to be hard to find a better overall choice that the HP Envy Sleekbook 6 with its $600 price tag. The downside is that the lower price point also comes with a slower performing AMD platform. it will work for basic tasks but even the first generation Intel ultrabooks will often do better.

HP has positioned its AMD-powered Envy Sleekbook 6-1010us as a lower-priced alternative to Intel-certified ultrabooks. Unfortunately, the axiom that "you get what you pay for" applies here. It's underpowered, has a mediocre screen, and may feel slow even when brand new.

When is an ultrabook not an ultrabook? This new addition to the HP Envy line asks that very question, with two nearly identical models. The ultrabook-like HP Envy Sleekbook 6 is the sharpest-looking $599 laptop you're likely to find, although you'll pay a performance premium.

The HP Envy Sleekbook 6z-1000 is a nice-looking entry-level laptop, and it costs only $600. The laptop's performance and processing speed may not be up to par, but HP's premium styling and components definitely make this laptop look lust-worthy. If you're not terribly concerned with having the fastest notebook on the market, the Sleekbook is worth a look.

If you’re in the market for a 15-inch budget laptop then the HP Envy 6 has got enough grunt behind it to deal with most tasks. It’s not meant to be a high-end model, and that shows. But when money is a major deciding factor the Envy 6 succeeds in filling that near-£600 gap in the market. And by doing so it’s already done its job: there’s enough on offer for the cash, and buyers will know they’re not buying a powerhouse.

The HP ENVY Sleekbook 6z is ultimately hard to recommend for a few reasons. The first of which is the abysmal keyboard: it has a poor, cheap feel and is not encouraging to use. Adding to the productivity problem is the low 1366x768 screen resolution; it suffices for basic tasks, but power users will be wishing for more space.

The HP Envy Sleekbook 6z is another Ultrabook laptop that looks to take a bit out of the crowded market. It tries to do this with a rock-bottom price tag of $600 and Beats Audio in an attempt to lure back to school shoppers away from other brands. Performance does lack, however, which is disappointing to say the least.

It's pretty clear that HP's new Sleekbook line is targeted toward those who fancy a responsive, high-performing thin-and-light but don't want to shell out a grand or more for an Ultrabook. We appreciate the company's effort to temper features with price, and while the 6z is capable enough to handle your everyday computing needs, the underpowered AMD APU isn't a great performer -- and you can do better without spending much more, as even the Envy Ultrabook 6t starts at just $800.

The HP Envy Sleekbook 6 is indeed a sleek looking device with some fairly decent performance to offer. While it may not be competing with the latest Ultrabooks, it’s still a fairly decent and affordable laptop to pick up if you’re looking for a premium look and feel without breaking your wallet.

In today’s mobile computing world, due to a myriad of reasons, consumers have begun demanding more while also making due with less. Build quality, ease of use and design appeal are gradually replacing adaptability and raw performance. Some may argue this current move towards “Appleization” has meant less customization, higher prices and a gradual slide towards one-size-fits all devices but the Envy 6 has proven those detractors wrong.

The HP Envy 6-1006ea Sleekbook scores the same as its Ultrabook counterpart. It's £100 cheaper but this comes with a sacrifice in raw performance. This laptop will suffice for basic tasks like web browsing but not much more.

HP’s attempt to tackle the Ultrabook for half the price is admirable, but its budget cuts are evident in several key areas: the screen mixes mediocre quality with a low resolution, good design and build quality is matched with iffy ergonomics, and the AMD APU combines poor application performance with good graphical grunt.

That display puts a dampener on proceedings, but HP Envy 6 plays its trump card at the checkout. At £499 inc VAT, this laptop is substantially cheaper than the Ultrabooks it imitates. The AMD processor lags behind its Intel rivals for raw processing power, but with ample performance for everyday tasks and capable gaming potential, it isn’t hard to see the appeal. If you’re searching for a slim, stylish machine that’s more affordable than Intel-based rivals, this is a fine compromise.

HP proves that AMD can play in the sleek ultraportable game just as well as Intel. Performance might not be quite on the same level, but the HP Envy 6-1006ea Sleekbook makes up for this with a cheaper price and longer battery life. Overall, it’s an attractive, well-built and very affordable machine, and definitely recommended if you’re after a light and stylish 15-inch laptop.

Overall, despite the obvious performance anxiety that this machine suffers from, the HP Envy Sleekbook 6-1126sa is a system that anyone looking to buy a budget laptop should look at. Its large screen and decent audio subsystem make it great for enjoying music and movies, while the comfortable keyboard and strong battery life make it a joy to use for more mundane tasks. Admittedly we would have preferred more raw power for our money, and the lack of real gaming performance does annoy, but in almost every other respect this is a tempting computer. It's worth considering - or at least it is until Intel upsets the market once again when it release its next-generation processors, and their powerful graphics cores.
