Il Google Pixel 9 si presenta come uno smartphone versatile e ben equilibrato, in grado di offrire un’esperienza utente di alto livello a partire da 899 euro per la versione da 128 GB. Se da un lato le sue caratteristiche avanzate giustificano il prezzo, dall’altro è importante considerare l’opzione di optare per Google Pixel Pro, che offre prestazioni superiori in termini di fotocamera e batteria, disponibile a soli 200 euro in più nella versione da 128 GB. In sintesi, la fotocamera del Pixel 9 è eccellente, permettendo di catturare immagini e video di altissima qualità senza la necessità di grandi modifiche o competenze particolari. L’interfaccia è fluida e personalizzabile, mentre le prestazioni sono più che adeguate per ogni tipo di utilizzo.

Le conclusioni le abbiamo date all’inizio: i due smartphone sono fantastici. Non c’è una grossa differenza tra i due modelli, anche se chi sceglie uno smartphone guardando anche al lato foto non potrà fare a meno dell'ottica tele 5x del modello “pro”. Ci rendiamo conto che Google ha fatto alcune scelte che per alcuni utenti possono apparire controverse: il processore non è il più veloce in commercio, anzi, è una versione rivista di quello dello scorso anno, le memorie non sono veloci come quelle di altri smartphone (sulla carta, ma all'atto pratico...), mancano da noi le funzioni più interessanti legate all'IA e quelle che ci sono, relative alla fotografia, sono giochini che dopo un po’ perdono di interesse.

Siamo alle battute finali della recensione di Google Pixel 9, proposto a 899 Euro di listino nel taglio di memoria da 128 GB e 999 Euro in quello da 256 GB. Il nostro giudizio è pienamente positivo, si tratta di uno smartphone equilibrato, bello, comodo da utilizzare e che bada al sodo, permettendoci di risparmiare qualcosa a fronte di rinunce di importanza marginale: teleobiettivo, display non LTPO, 12 anziché 16 GB di RAM, UWB, assenza del sensore di temperatura, ricarica leggermente più lenta e qualche funzioncina software, nulla che ci impedisca veramente di godere appieno dell’esperienza d’uso Google Pixel. Da considerare che in futuro Pixel 9 potrà scendere più rapidamente di prezzo rispetto ai Pro, potrebbe quindi valere la pena aspettare qualche mese, sempre che non si voglia sfruttare la promo di lancio che scade tra pochissimi giorni.

Con i Pixel di nuova generazione Google continua a tallonare sempre più da vicino Apple e Samsung, che sono i due competitor diretti a livello di approccio nel mercato degli smartphone. I due top di gamma quest'anno assottigliano le differenze continuando a rivolgersi però a due utenze molto diverse. Da una parte c'è Pixel 9, più compatto e maneggevole, ma comunque dotato di una potenza più che sovrabbondante per l'utente comune. Dall'altra c'è Pixel 9 Pro XL che, mai come quest'anno, si rivolge a un'utenza professionale attraverso non solo al display più ampio e alla fotocamera più versatile, ma anche alla possibilità di accedere a una modalità Pro per la fotocamera che strizza l'occhiolino in maniera evidente al pubblico dei creator o aspiranti tali.

Insomma avete capito il succo del discorso di questa recensione: Google Pixel 9 ha davvero poco da invidiare ai modelli Pro. Un po' come l'anno precedente la differenza sta tutta nell'assenza di una fotocamera zoom extra, una selfie camera leggermente meno qualitativa (interessa a qualcuno?), un display con dinamico ma comunque con una luminosità altissima e qualche funzione software. La maggior parte di queste perdite sono trascurabili, al netto di un prezzo che invece è decisamente più interessante. L'unico contro ai nostri occhi resta una ricarica lenta e le memorie UFS non velocissime, come dovrebbero essere su un telefono da 899€ di listino. Va bene l'ottimizzazione software e tutto ciò che ne riguarda ma a certe cifre è anche giusto avere una qualità hardware al pari livello con quanto speso. In attesa di provare sul lungo tempo il Google Pixel 9 Pro non possiamo che promuovere questo modello, ad oggi il Google Pixel più sensato e ottimizzato di tutti.

Il prezzo di Pixel 9 parte da 899 euro in versione 128GB, versione che secondo me andrebbe eliminata per partire dai 256GB ed infatti al momento si trova sempre a 899 euro proprio la 256GB, sarà che Google se n'è resa conto. Comunque si tratta di uno smartphone completo e versatile, il nuovo design lo ha decisamente svecchiato e lo rende più ergonomico mentre l'esperienza Pixel fa tutto il resto, super piacevole come sempre e speriamo che Gemini venga integrata sempre di più!

Ci sentiamo di consigliare Pixel 9 a occhi chiusi. Il prezzo di partenza di 899 euro è assolutamente in linea con quanto offerto, specie considerando il posizionamento dei dispositivi concorrenti. Ci aspettiamo di trovarlo attorno ai 799 euro già in vista del Natale, momento in cui potrebbe davvero diventare uno dei best-seller sotto l'albero. In ambito Android il suo rivale principale è il Galaxy S24 di Samsung. Offre ugualmente l'integrazione con l'intelligenza artificiale, perde qualcosina in termini di prestazioni e fotografia, mentre riesce a fare meglio per quanto riguarda lo schermo. Senza contare come si riesca a trovare sul mercato a cifre più basse (considerando il maggior numero di mesi alle spalle). Il 9 settembre sarà invece presentato il suo competitor per eccellenza, ovvero iPhone 16 di Apple.

Nel contesto della nuova configurazione della serie Pixel 9, il modello di ingresso ci sembra quello più a fuoco nel rapporto qualità/prezzo: buona parte delle funzioni e delle capacità sono infatti analoghe a quelle delle versioni Pro, e le differenze più significative sono legate all'assenza del teleobiettivo e allo schermo che può contare su una risoluzione inferiore e non possiede la tecnologia LTPO. Pixel 9 costa 899 €: la promo lancio prevede sia la supervalutazione dell’usato sia 100 € di sconto (per avere la variante da 256GB al prezzo di quella da 128GB). Un prezzo alto, perché bisogna comunque tenere conto di alcune scelte tecniche al risparmio e della concorrenza, visto che -sebbene Google realizzi prodotti eccellenti sotto molti punti di vista- qualcuno potrebbe avere altre esigenze. Proprio considerate le promo lancio, credo che la scelta più opportuna sia Pixel 9 Pro, che speriamo di portarvi presto sul nostro sito e sul canale Youtube, che offre più completezza in ambito fotografico, più benefit ed una migliore cura del sistema di raffreddamento. Pixel 9, comunque, rappresenta un vero top di gamma non nei numeri ma nell’esperienza d’uso, per cui se non volete sborsare 200 € per il Pro potrebbe essere perfetto per le vostre necessità.

The Pixel 9 is therefore a good phone that is overshadowed by better Google phones at both ends of the spectrum. I would wait for a sale to make the price more tempting.

Overall, I really like the Pixel 9 and I do think it’s one of the best Pixels Google has made in years. The hardware feels premium, the refreshed design is great, the software feels smart (despite leaning into generative AI too much) and the camera experience remains superb. There’s a lot to love with this phone. At the same time, I find it tough to recommend. For existing Pixel users, there isn’t a ton here to justify an upgrade unless you’re rocking a Pixel 6 or older. And for non-Pixel users, it really depends what your current phone is. However, for anyone rocking a flagship device from the likes of Samsung or Apple released anytime in the last three years, chances are it already outperforms the Pixel 9. And that brings us to the price.
