Going back to the beginning… Why is the Google Pixel 3 XL a drill? Because, firstly, it is loud, both in terms of the speakers and visuals. Further, it is a very narrowly focused tool that you either trust with your tasks or do not use it at all. This is a very narrowly focused smartphone, this is the vision of relevance from Google 4 years ago. And Google didn’t cram everything in here, so it’s not a Swiss Army knife. But they’ve put enough in here that this tool can poke holes in your problems so you can actually solve them. And secondly, a high-quality drill will work properly after 5 years, just like a new one. Therefore, if you are satisfied with a limited pool of features, you will not need anything else, besides this, for a very, very long time.

Among big-screen phones, the Pixel 3 XL is the one to beat when it comes to camera performance and AI. The iPhone XS has a nicer design and more pure performance through its A12 Bionic chip. And the Note 9 has the Pixel 3 XL beat for productivity with its S Pen. The new Huawei Mate 20 Pro and its three rear cameras also show a lot of promise.

The Pixel 3 XL is still a decent Android phone despite the introduction of the Pixel 4 range. The display is outstanding, the design is finally premium and the camera is one of the best ever seen on a smartphone. A fairly high price tag is no longer an issue thanks to a significant drop, so the 3 XL is a value choice if you don't need something brand new.

The Google Pixel 3 XL is the best big-screened camera phone you can buy today, one that’s able to capture stunning photos that your friends won’t believe came from a smartphone. You’ll have to be okay with its prominent at the top of the 6.3-inch display and the higher price, a familiar trade-offs for a little extra screen space in 2019. It’s battery life is bigger, too, and the main reason to choose this phone over the otherwise similar 5.5-inch Google Pixel 3.

I can’t recommend the Pixel 3 XL right now based on its price. There are too many options that are simply better phones for close to the price. Google seemingly can’t drop the price either due to the recent release of the Pixel 3a and 3a XL. Those phones do 90% of what the 3 and 3 XL do but at half the cost. If I were going to recommend a Pixel device to pick up right now, it would be one of those.

And that's the point of the Pixel 3: turning Pixel into a platform. Like the iPhone, Google is putting the user experience ahead of the specs or features enthusiasts crave. It may be a tougher sell—especially at premium prices—but it also comes with a guarantee few other phones can offer: This time next year, it’ll actually be better.

For just $479, half the price of many flagship phones or less than that, you're getting one of the best smartphone cameras on the market. You're also getting a solid FHD OLED display, which has cool features like Now Playing. And of course, you get all of the other nice things that come with having a Pixel. You'll be among the first to get Android feature and security updates, you'll be able to enroll in beta programs (although the Pixel 3a XL was pulled from the Android Q beta for the time being), and you get a stock Android experience. This phone is a solid buy, and unless you really care about wireless charging, I'd even recommend it over the Pixel 3 XL.

Absolutely yes, if you want a phone with great camera. The newly launched Pixel 3a and Pixel 3a XL smartphones offer the very best of the original Pixel 3 smartphones at a considerably low price. They have a design that is deceivingly similar to the Pixel 3 smartphones and key 'Pixel-y' features such as Active Edge, Now Playing and Digital Wellbeing that work flawlessly. They also offer a fantastic camera experience that is close to flagship Pixel phones. And the best of all, even though they are a bit pricey, they don't cost a fortune like the Pixel 3 smartphones.

With this much time using the Pixel 3 XL, my conclusion hasn't particularly changed: "I will have no hesitation in recommending the Pixel 3 or Pixel 3 XL to anyone who asks me what the best Android phone is." No phone available today is perfect. And no phone ever can be perfect for even a majority of people — let alone everyone. But the Pixel lineup is approaching perfection; Google just needs that final bit of polish and execution to make its ideas really shine as a cohesive unit. But even as it stands, flaws and all, the Pixel 3 XL is fantastic.

The Pixel 3 and Pixel 3 XL aren't perfect. But from a features and software standpoint, I do think Google has knocked it out of the park again. This is also a time where something approaching design fatigue is becoming increasingly obvious, and a lot of flagships phones are starting to look uncannily similar to each other, and to their predecessors. Software is one of the areas where companies can continue to throw in fresh ideas and innovate, and Google is doing this wonderfully. The Pixel 3 phones may not be the swankiest kids on the block, but they deliver where it counts. And sometimes, maybe substance matters more than flair (if you don't mind the high cost).

There’s a lot to recommend here. Set in an imperfect Android world where security vulnerabilities, malware and other issues are weekly news events, and where even major manufacturers have flawed update records, the pure Google ‘monthly updates’, only days behind the OS code itself being fixed, take some beating. While it's still a good phone all things considered, you can get a better phone overall for that price and you can most certainly get a phone that does 90% of what the Pixel 3 XL does at around half the price. It is kind of ironical, though. Right until the Nexus 6P, Google’s phones were known for their phenomenal turn of speed and butter smoothness, at relatively affordable prices. And for having adequate rather than exceptional cameras. The 6P changed all that and the Pixel era saw the phones emerge as the frontrunners in camera photography. Unfortunately, this seems to have come at the cost of the very virtues that made the Nexus great – performance!

Pixel 3 XL is for those who want a premium Android phone with a camera experience unlike any other, without any of the jazz about three or four sensors at the back. It is also for those who want an Android experience which gets upgraded regularly. However, Pixel 2 or Pixel 2 XL users might not see much point in upgrading, considering there’s not such a bump in hardware or performance. Plus, most of the camera features of Pixel 3 will be coming to Pixel 2 phones. It is software afterall.

Having the luxury of testing other “flagship” models from different brands that run a fraction of the cost tells us we can certainly live without the big-name stuff.

The Google Pixel 3 XL is the best big-screened camera phone you can buy today, one that’s able to capture stunning photos that your friends won’t believe came from a smartphone. You’ll have to be okay with its prominent notch cut out at the top of the 6.3-inch display and the higher price, a familiar trade-offs for a little extra screen space in 2018. It’s battery life is bigger, too, and the main reason to choose this phone over the otherwise similar 5.5-inch Google Pixel 3.

The Google Pixel 3 XL continues to deliver on the promise of jaw-dropping imaging performance. The Qualcomm Snapdragon 845 paired with Android 9.0 make the Pixel 3 XL a solid performer for any and every task, regardless of how demanding it may be. However, for a smartphone priced at Rs 83,000 for the 64GB variant, the Google Pixel 3 XL feels grossly overpriced, given that it doesn't support expandable storage, doesn't sport an HDR10 compliant display and still doesn't have a secondary rear camera. The Pixel 3 XL asks a huge premium for the peace of mind that every time you take a photo, you're going to have a winner on your hands.

The Pixel 3 and Pixel 3 XL aren't perfect. But from a features and software standpoint, I do think Google has knocked it out of the park again. This is also a time where something approaching design fatigue is becoming increasingly obvious, and a lot flagships phones are starting to look uncannily similar to each other, and to their predecessors. Software is one of the areas where companies can continue to throw in fresh ideas and innovate, and Google is doing this wonderfully. The Pixel 3 phones may not be the swankiest kids on the block, but they deliver where it counts. And sometimes, maybe substance matters more than flair.

I am going to keep this simple. The answer is "absolutely". If you want a phone with the best camera, get the Pixel 3 XL. If you want a phone that will get the latest Android updates, and will get the clean Google's Android, get the Pixel 3 XL. If you want the best Android phone, get the Pixel 3 XL, or the Pixel 3 that costs less at price of Rs 71,000. At a starting price of Rs 83,000 it is also an expensive phone but unlike the Pixel 2 XL, this time around it is also a phone that gives you more for the money you spent on it, whether it is the screen, design or the camera. It's just that it's still not the best phone for most people. That in my opinion remains the iPhone XS, although that phone also costs more with a starting price of Rs 99,900.

What I will say is that I would be perfectly happy with the Pixel 3 or XL. And I was impressed with the Quick Switch Adapter (USB-A female to USB-C) and software that transferred everything from my Note9 very efficiently. It also works with iPhone, Blackberry and Windows Phone transfer. In Android to Android transfers the worst it will ask for is a password to activate the app, (e.g. email etc.).

The Google Pixel 3 XL is an excellent device. Overall, the Pixel 3 and Pixel 3 XL are a marked improvement over last year's models and from what we can see, they don't really have any deal-breaking flaw other than very high price tag. They are well-built, look great, have solid performance, and continue to shoot amazing photographs, thanks to great software. If we were to pick our favourite of the two, we'd recommend getting the Pixel 3 XL over the Pixel 3. The bigger battery and the larger, higher resolution display simply makes for a better experience.

I would pick the Google Pixel 3 and Pixel 3 XL not only over most other Android phones, but even over the latest iPhones (even the iPhone XS and iPhone XS Max, which are far more expensive). The Pixel 3 XL would be a superb big-screen phone if its notch weren’t so polarizing. If you don’t like the fact that this notch is bigger than rival phones and don’t want to use the software fix to mask it, the Pixel 3 XL isn’t for you. Pricing here is somewhat competitive as well. The Google Pixel 3 and Pixel 3 XL start at $799 and $899, respectively, for the 64GB models. That’s not cheap when you consider phones like the One Plus 6 are available for hundreds less, but in the overall landscape (and certainly compared to Apple's iPhone XS), the new Pixels aren’t the most expensive flagships either. Ultimately, Google seems to have balanced things nicely with the Pixel 3 and Pixel 3 XL. If you’re in the market for a new smartphone, do yourself a favor and check them out.

The Google Pixel 3 is a great phone but more than that, it is a way for the company to showcase its software prowess. In many ways, it is easy to see hardware limits as challenges for the company. 4GB of RAM too less? Nah, we’ll show you what optimization can do. Or perhaps the battery? While competitors fit in 4000mAh units, Google manages to match up with a smaller cell. Nowhere is it more evident than in the camera performance where the Pixel 3 handily smashes the competition.

So, what’s all this going to cost you? Well, the Pixel 3 starts at Rs. 71,000 while the Pixel 3 XL starts at Rs. 83,000. This is a Rs. 10,000 bump in price compared to last year’s model, which was to be expected we guess. It’s definitely going to be a challenge for Google this year, considering how competing flagships from Samsung retail for much less these days. The Pixel phones have always been about the camera but when you go this high up the price bracket, people are looking for the best all-round experience, which Google needs to nail. From what we’ve seen, the Pixel 3 and Pixel 3 XL seem like a definite step-up from their predecessors in terms of design and the way they feel. The question is, are they worth it? We’ll be testing them over the next couple of days so stay tuned for the full review coming soon.

Qualcomm Adreno 630:
