Prime impressioni.

Compared to most current high-end smartphones, the Google Pixel 2 comes with slightly outdated front camera hardware, although thanks to Google’s software solutions, the device is still capable of very decent image results. Exposure on faces is often a little low, but the inclusion of HDR processing means that dynamic range is wider than for many competitors, so consumers will have to decide which is more important to them. Color rendering is also slightly problematic, with undersaturated hues and white balance inaccuracies outdoors that can result in pinkish color casts. Despite these issues, the Google device remains a decent performer. Thanks to excellent detail preservation in low light, extended focus range with good depth of field, as well as solid results for flash and video, the Pixel 2 still has a lot to offer selfie enthusiasts.

Google's promised three years of software updates and security patches for the phone, meaning it's guaranteed to get the Android R update when it lands in 2020. That's a big deal in the Android space, and it makes the Pixel 2 a lot more appealing if you're considering picking it up a year into its life cycle.

The Google Pixel 2 combines hardware with powerful software to produce incredibly detailed and vibrant still images in both daylight and low light. Class-leading dual pixel AF is fast and accurate even in low light, and 4K/30p is both beautiful and also smooth thanks to optical + electronic stabilization. The camera's background blurring mode is among the best. And unlimited free photo storage via Google Photo is just the icing on the cake. We wish it offered wireless charging, a more accurate color display and a telephoto rear camera. But still you'd be hard put to find a smartphone in 2018 that takes prettier pictures.

Should you buy it at a starting price of Rs 61,000? If you can afford it and want the best camera and Android experience in a compact form factor, then absolutely go for it. Also, Flipkart and Google have been kind enough to come up with stupendous offers. Apart from a dated bezel-full design, I don’t think there are any major flaws with it. The Google Pixel 2 is packed with some amazing internals in a humdrum design. Comparing to its predecessor, it has a speedy processor, improved camera modules, and offers outstanding Android experience. If you don’t mind the big bezels, the Pixel 2 can easily satiate your hunger for power. If you need smaller bezels and can spend more, go for the Pixel 2 XL, which is not much different except for the display and the battery, but it all boils down to the display size and your convenience. Even though it starts at Rs. 61,000, Flipkart is coming up with several offers, which brings down the price of the phone to Rs. 39,999.

We can all quibble about the value proposition of the larger Pixel 2 XL at $849, with a larger screen and battery not quite justifying the $200 price bump. But when you look at what the Pixel 2 offers for just $649 it's no surprise that I and the rest of the Android Central team rate it so highly. And an extra month of use has only solidified my feelings on this great phone. Even taking its imperfections into account, it's the best phone Google has made and one I think anyone would be happy using.

Between the two, the Pixel 2 takes the cake as it is a no frills Android smartphone, which offers the basics and does them really well, while it’s at it. There’s no tap to adapt for third-party apps because there’s no nonsensical taller display, you don’t have to pinch to zoom every time you play a video either. The bezels are thin, but the grip and usability is excellent. In short, it just works! And does everything brilliantly, be it the camera, battery, display and the software.

After testing both phones, it’s clear that the Pixel 2 is the safer choice of the two. Sure, you lose out on a bit of screen real estate and aesthetics, but in turn, you get a better quality display which lacks most of the (sometimes) deal-breaking issues of the Pixel 2 XL. Other than that, you get the same performance, the same great cameras, and the promise of timely updates from Google. If you’re looking for a higher resolution display and advanced features like wireless charging in the Android space, then look no further than the Samsung Galaxy S8. The iPhone 8 is also an excellent alternative to the Pixel 2, which retails around the same price as the Pixel 2.

Now the Pixel 2 isn’t a perfect handset. The bezels around the display are enormous for a phone in 2017, and the build quality, while still quite nice in general, doesn’t match the same quality of the Pixel 2 XL. But in all honesty, while we’d all prefer a sexier phone with smaller bezels, after a week of using the Pixel 2, you just forget it’s an issue altogether.

Is the small Pixel 2 the better Pixel this year? Certainly not if you're looking for a large display. Put that aside, however, and the Pixel 2 delivers the goods just as well as its XL counterpart while being considerably more affordable, not to mention you can actually buy one right now. Add to that the glaring lack of reported display issues on the Pixel 2 M, in stark contrast to the rocky launch of the Extra Large version, and it could mean that small is the way to go.

This is the first time that I’ve changed my mind on a phone. The Pixel 2 is a 9/10 on the basis of its industry-leading 2-year warranty which includes ship-in costs, and 3-year software support cycle. The screen on the XL and the bezels on the standard Pixel 2 are obvious missteps, and the lack of a 3.5mm jack will upset some, but in my opinion these aren't big concerns. These phones set out to improve everything that was already great about the original Pixel, and to bring the same excellent custom touch to Android O that last year's phone brough to Android N, and that's exactly what they do.

Google’s foray into the hardware market is still in its infant stage, but it’s becoming a more impressive journey with each passing year. The Pixel 2, or at least the Pixel 2 XL has at the very least a small cloud over it thanks to the screen used but it seems to be hit and miss as to whether it’s an issue at all. Google has systems in place, including a 15-day return option to mitigate these issues so you can order, and return the phone if it does turn out to be an issue.

Finally, the Pixel 2 phones run Android 8.0.0 Oreo, with its own Pixel Launcher to set it apart, UI-wise, from other Oreo handsets. The most obvious departure from last year’s Pixels is the removal of the “G” search pill on the new-look homescreen, which now has a full-width Google Search bar (rounded corners!) sandwiched between the dock of icons and navigation keys at the bottom. I’m ambivalent about this change, but for those who outright reject it, there’s always third-party launchers. As before, you can long-press the home button to summon Google Assistant, long-press the circular app icons to bring up shortcut items, swipe right to get to the Google app, and swipe up from the bottom of the screen to reveal the app drawer. And if you’re adamant about one-handed use, you can configure the phones to bring down the notification panel when you swipe down on the fingerprint scanner.

Buy the Pixel 2 for the best camera on any Android phone and fast Google updates, but skip it if you can't live without a headphone jack or a standout design.

If you want the latest and greatest, definitely give the Pixel 2 and Pixel 2 XL a shot, but if you’ve got the original Pixel or Pixel XL and are happy with it, you may as well stick with that for now.

In the end, both phones are very solid choices. We wish they had some welcome extras like microSD expansion or wireless charging, but these features aren't going to carry equal weight with every shopper, and we imagine that for a lot of smartphone users, both the Pixel 2 and Pixel 2 XL will easily give them everything they need.

The Samsung is the sexier phone: all black glass with those curvy infinity edges, endlessly controllable camera, and tons of interface options you can tweak forever. But as a working phone, I think I’d pick the Pixel 2. It’s easier to hold (which counts for a lot), the Google Assistant is truly impressive, it runs Project Fi, and there’s really nothing missing from it, other than the headphone jack, that I care much about. And with a Pixel device you'll always get the latest updates and security fixes immediately — something that should be top of mind for anyone using an Android phone for business.

Of Google’s two phones, I lean toward the Pixel 2 XL. Its screen may not be the finest, but the extra size and much smaller bezels compared to the Pixel 2 make it a more rewarding everyday device. If your online life is on Google’s servers, and you prize camera talents above all else, the Pixel 2 is the best combination of that. Just be sure you can live without wireless charging and a headphone jack in the process.

There’s a lot to love about the Google Pixel 2. It’s a way better phone than the original Pixel, with a far more coherent design, a better screen and even better camera.

Over the past year, Google had trouble making enough Pixel phones to meet the demand for them. Pre-orders for the the Pixel 2 and Pixel 2 XL have already led to a waitlist, though we hope that wait times will be better than last year. In any case, opting to get one will be well worth the wait.

The only question, really, is which size you should buy. The Pixel 2 XL is probably too expensive for many people, and its 6-inch display may actually be too big as well. The Pixel 2, with a very attainable price, offers excellent value for the money — it also has a better display and more manageable size. Unless you feel like you need the extra screen size or battery of the 2 XL, pick the Pixel 2. You'll love it.

There seems to be a duality in the Pixel 2 that goes beyond its two-tone finish. It is both impressive yet, at the same time, almost nondescript. It is familiar while also feeling a tad alien. It is similar enough to its predecessor to be recognizable as a Pixel yet changes enough that it feels like a completely different beast altogether.

On the Pixel 2, however, you can currently only use Active Edge to launch Google Assistant. It’s a frustrating limitation, because the squeeze functionality has the potential to solve common issues. If Google removes these shackles, this negative will become a big plus point.

In a vacuum the Pixel 2 is a great Android smartphone, with a vibrant display, and a solid construction with innovative squeezable edges. However, in the face of stiff competition from Samsung, LG and OnePlus, the Pixel 2 looks outdated, with only its excellent camera and lovely Android experience making it noteworthy.

Rather than build two identical Pixels this year, Google decided to make its new small smartphone a little more conservative. Make no mistake: the Pixel 2 is still an incredibly fast phone, and a clean build of Android 8.0 Oreo combined with Google's intelligent features make the device incredibly capable. And its camera? Just fantastic. Because of its more traditional design and smaller battery, though, the Pixel 2 doesn't make as strong an impression as the Pixel XL. Still, if you're looking for a first-rate Android phone that won't make your hands cramp, you'd do well to start your search here.

Google took it up a notch and then some with the Pixel 2 and Pixel 2 XL. Especially if you're an Android purist, you'll love Oreo with its new-found performance and features. We had a short runway with the new Pixels before launch, but we're looking forward to spending more time with them in the months ahead. Google's Pixel 2 and Pixel 2 XL are available today on Verizon or unlocked for any carrier and we highly recommend this latest offering from Google Team Pixel.

I was a big fan of the original Pixel and the addition of waterproofing and improved cameras have me sold on the Pixel 2 and Pixel 2 XL. I’m particularly fond of the Pixel 2 XL thanks to its gorgeous design. I do wish the Now Playing option was more consistent and am disappointed that Google is making consumers switch to USB C headphones without including them in the box like Apple.

While the XL is probably a bit large for some tastes, it’s definitely growing on Chris despite some initial trepidation when he realised just how large it was compared to his Galaxy S8. This does mean that Google will be exploring the offline channel as well, which would partially explain the nearly Rs. 20,000 premium in India compared to the US pricing. Whether or not this will work out in Google's favour remains to be seen. Our first impressions of the Pixel 2 are mixed. We loved the original and although the new model brings the best of Google via Android Oreo, we're not sure enough has changed to warrant a higher price and to compete with rivals. The phone is missing key features including wireless charging, a microSD card slot and an exciting display. The Pixel 2 XL is a lot more interesting.

We’re in danger of running out of superlatives when describing the major image quality attributes of the Google Pixel 2. That makes sense for a device that tops our scoring charts —up from the 94 of the Apple iPhone 8 Plus and Samsung Galaxy Note 8 to a record-setting 98. So for just about any Photo or Video use case, it recommends itself as the phone camera with the best image quality. A notable exception to that assessment centers around the added performance in Zoom and Bokeh (including Depth and Portrait) that dual-camera smartphones such as the Apple iPhone 8 Plus and Galaxy Note 8 can provide. This said, the Pixel 2 is especially well-suited to videographers, as it achieves the highest Video score for any device we’ve tested — a 96.

For everybody else, there are certainly flashier options in the market that can do so much more.

Qualcomm Adreno 540:
