AMD A8-4555M

L'AMD A8-4555M è un processore quad-core mobile ultra-low-voltage (ULV) basato sull'architettura Trinity. Ufficialmente introdotto alla fine del 2012, è il diretto successore delle APUs della serie Llano A (Accelerated Processing Unit). L'unità di processo è realizzata in 32nm SOI ed integra una CPU da 1.6 GHz CPU (fino a 2.4 GHz w/ Turbo Core) con una GPU Radeon HD 7600G relativamente veloce oltre ad un controller di memoria dual-channel, video de- ed encoders ed un northbridge.

I cores CPU si basano sulla architettura Bulldozer rielaborata, chiamata Piledriver. Sebbene venduto come processore quad-core, l'A8-4555M include  solo due moduli con quattro cores integer e due cores floating-point in totale. Ne consegue che, la CPU non è un vero processore quad-core.

Se paragonata con i precedenti cores Bulldozer, AMD ha provato a migliorare le prestazioni IPC (istruzioni per clock) dei cores Trinity consentendo frequenze clock superiori. Tuttavia, se paragonato con i predecessori Llano, le prestazioni multithreaded della Trinity sono migliorate di poco. La feature Turbo Core 3.0 migliorato funziona bene nell'accelerare le prestazioni single threaded, tuttavia ancora non siamo al livello dell'Intel Turbo Boost. Indipendentemente da questo, AMD è riuscita ad includere anche altre features, come l'estensione AVX (inclusa FMA) ed il supporto per la codifica AES.

In termini di prestazioni complessive, l'A8-4555M si attesta tra un ULV Pentium ed un Core i3 Intel. A causa della bassa frequenza, l'A8-4555M è del 15 - 20% più lenta rispetto all'A10-4655M (25 W TDP). Tuttavia, le prestazioni CPU del processore AMD sono sufficienti per le applicazioni quotidiane da ufficio, la navigazione Internet ed anche qualche video editing e gioco leggero.

L'APU integra una GPU DirectX 11-compatibile chiamata Radeon HD 7600G.

Il consumo della APU A8-4555M è di 19 Watt di TDP e conseguentemente paragonabile ai processori ULV Intels. Pertanto, l'A8-4555M è più adatta portatili sottili e leggeri.
