AMD A4-4300M

L'AMD A4-4300M è un processore dual-core mobile basato sull'architettura Trinity. Ufficialmente introdotto nel 2012, è il diretto successore delle APUs della serie Llano A (Accelerated Processing Unit). L'unità di processo è realizzata in 32nm SOI ed integra una CPU da 2.5 GHz CPU (fino a 3.0 GHz w/ Turbo Core) con una GPU Radeon HD 7420G oltre a un controller di memoria dual-channel, video de- ed encoders ed una northbridge.

I cores CPU si basano sulla architettura Bulldozer rielaborata, chiamata Piledriver. Sebbene venduto come processore dual-core, l'A6-4400M include solo un modulo con due cores integer ed un floating-point. Ne consegue che, la CPU non è un vero processore dual-core.

Se paragonata con i precedenti cores Bulldozer, AMD ha provato a migliorare le prestazioni IPC (istruzioni per clock) dei cores Trinity consentendo frequenze clock superiori. Tuttavia, se paragonato con i predecessori Llano, le prestazioni multithreaded della Trinity sono migliorate di poco. La feature Turbo Core 3.0 migliorato funziona bene nell'accelerare le prestazioni single threaded, tuttavia ancora non siamo al livello dell'Intel Turbo Boost. Indipendentemente da questo, AMD è riuscita ad includere anche altre features, come l'estensione AVX (inclusa FMA) ed il supporto per la codifica AES.

In termini di prestazioni complessive, l'A4-4300M ha prestazioni simili alla A4-3310MX Llano-based. I carichi di lavoro single-threaded possono beneficare in modo particolare della nuova architettura e delle aggiornate funzionalità Turbo Core. Se paragonata alla serie Intel Pentium, l'A4-4300M offre meno prestazioni in molti casi. Tuttavia, le prestazioni CPU del processore AMD sono sufficienti per tutti i carichi di lavoro quotidiani come Office e navigazione Internet, ma raggiunge il limite con le applicazioni più pesanti.

La Radeon HD 7420G DirectX 11-compatible integrata offre probabilmente solo 192 shader cores del chip Trinity (7660G: 384) e, grazie al Turbo Core, riesce ad operare tra 470 e 640 MHz in base al tipo di applicazione. In media, le prestazioni della GPU HD 7420G si attestano tra la Radeon HD 6520G Llano-based e l'HD Graphics 4000 che si trova negli Ivy Bridge Intel.

Il consumo della A4-4300M APU è di 35 Watt di TDP e pertanto è paragonabile ai processori dual-core Ivy Bridge. Di conseguenza, l'A4-4300M è più adatta a notebooks da 14-pollici o superiori.
